My info is that Mots has informed the club he is off to Port.

Menz a fair chance to stay now though
Wonder what his contract offer/terms are and our likely compo?

I thought he was pretty good in the final series, might add some contract value. Tbh, if he's getting +500k then good luck to him.

We will miss his outside run, hopefully a youngster can step, but not sure we have a like player tbh, unless we get Smith.

So the media have it as follows:
duncan, Cockatoo to gold coast
Motlop to Port
Lang to 4 clubs
stanley to the dogs
etc etc
for ablett, as stringer doesnt like us, and smith is going to the blues

I implore all the negative knobs who blast geelong supporters who post early and well to take the same approach with some of the media this week

Seriously we are looking like we have no idea
You seem to have gotten a lot right in the past . How likely are we to get stringer ?

Is the Free Agency Draft Pick Compensation Formula a Black Box and not published?

I know that the AFL has a Committee that reviews the outcomes of the Formula to confirm the Draft pick compensation...
Let's hope they give him a Long-Term deal (+3 years) and at least 500k per season... Otherwise, if its a shitty contract offer, then we should force PA to trade for him, or threaten the draft for him.

Sam Gray and a pick upgrade trade for Motlop... He's an okay Small Forward, young, improving, has ok pressure, can rack-up the pill, can mark over-head, crumbs front and centre, not sure if he is super fast like Smith though.

Then we don't need to go for Devon Smith.

Motlop is a free agent.

Also I would prefer Devon Smith over Sam Gray, and I'm not even a massive fan of Smith.

We will get a pick somewhere between 35-45 for Motlop, not sure Gray would be our answer better to take a pick for Motlop

Yeah, ok...

I just think that compo is probably not good enough, its kind of similar to Scooter's compo as well, so it might be fair value, but IMO its seems poor when considering what Stanley and Bundy were traded for, Eg Pick 21.

The other thing is, Motlop was drafted to the club with Pick 39, and let's face it, he could be a Top 4-7 player at a club, and to get the equivalent draft pick back in Compo doesn't seem right. He would be one of the best players for that Pick range, so you'd expect a better compo in return.

Let's hope they offer him a monty long-term deal, and the compo is better, but you're probably right on the estimation.

A few Essendon supporters confident Stringer will nominate them.

Needless to say it'll be disappointing if all we land is Gaz particularly as we may lose two or all three of Motlop, Menzel and Lang.
Rumour has it that clubs a wary of Stringer for whatever reason. The Tiges spoke to him but have been open about him not being a fit for their needs. The Bombers have apparently said they won't put-up an early draft pick for him. And we are cooling somewhat too. He might just end-up back at the kennel.

Yeah despite what I have been told by a couple of people I'm started to doubt he comes to us as well, the narrative just seems to have shifted... even Gaz in and only Mots out I wouldn't be rapt with.

I have a feeling all we'll land is Gaz, lose Motlop and Lang and possibly keep Menz

Just on the logic of this, if a player is a Top 10 player at a Club, then assume over the life of the club they have a 1st round pick for every year, then there could potentially be 10 x First Round picks at a Club; assuming (1) they don't trade them away; and (2) assuming all the first round selections are good. So if a player is inside the Top 10 of a club, has reasonable mileage left in their career, then the compo should be near a First Rounder. That's the way I see it.

If we lose Motlop and get only Ablett, what a failure of list management it is right there.

Forget Smith, the big fish in the pool is Stringer, if we lose Motlop because we low ball hm to save cap for Stringer and Stringer nominates Essendon, we need to sack our list management group.

He has some bad periods but Motlop is a gun x factor player who had a bad season battling through injury and played out of position. He proved in finals how good he is.

Ablett I consider a "meh" acquisition. It is for romance, nothing more. Will play about 15 games, maybe 20.. as I said meh. We CANNOT let young players or cap go for a banged up 34 year old.

If Stringer nominates us and we land him, it will soften the blow of losing Motlop. But we come out about even.

We lose Motlop - for cap, and a few young players (eg. Lang) - for trading with GC, and not get Stringer. We have set the club back years.

I am scared we are about to overpay for Ablett, who is only worth a R3 pick. I want us to let him retire if GC demand more.

If Stringer nominates Essendon tomorrow, give that money to Motlop.
