Ablett will be done pretty early or not at all (depending on GC's attitude).

Smith will be a fairly straightforward swap for an early mid 20s pick.

From there we will see but it helps that we are a destination club.
Still a few quite good players likely to be available at trade time but i reckon we might trade for one or two lower profile players that no one has talked about.
Like Black?
I don't see Smith making a huge addition to our Premiership hopes.
I hope Gold Coast do stick to some sort of hard nosed approach. They are potentially big losers but thats their choice to risk ..I like the idea of a player having to live up to the contract he signed. Super dumb to sign a 3 year deal after having 5 years up there and they were hardly finals locks at the time of signing..yet he signed. I think id do whatever to move him out..another year of the injury saga would be a poor outcome for my team imo... but thats their choice.

Time will tell but i expect us to be very active this year and we have a good track record getting deals done, trust Wells.
Don't wish to cast a negative pall over the conversation but McIntosh, Clark, Delaney, Black, Stanley.........

Think SW does his best work when he has early to mid picks available to him. Something that hasn't been accorded him in recent times.

We might keep Menz but Mackie, Domsey, Lang and Motlop are gornn.

We can say who cares but Stringer allowed us to play Harry back and would have kicked 300-400 goals over the next decade for us. Disappointing Miss
I think Stringer is a big risk i wouldn't be against having him but he is far from.a cert for anyone.

I agree we need to improve our forward line but i am not necessarily sure a 3rd tall forward is the biggest fix for those issues that we need.

Also remember this far from trade week last year who predicted tuohy to us? No one. Lots of things can change between now and then and we tend to do our work quickly and quietly.

Wells does just as fine at trading as drafting. Not perfect but very good no worries there.

I think Smith is a much better player than people give him credit for.
I reckon we will end up trading for someone no media has linked us to yet.

I agree on GC and if they are unreasonable i reckon we will walk away which i am fine with.

Menzel would have to be a lock to stay at this point surely?

Ablett for Lang?

Adelaide will most likely add Gibbs and subtract Lever.

Port will at least get one of Rockliff or Motlop.

Rockliff to Carlton if not Port.

Motlop to North if not Port.

Watts to us as a smokey?

Wouldn't mind him to be honest.

Elite skills and a mobile aerial option up the ground or further forward?

Devon Smith to us you'd think if they (Carlton) land Rockliff?

Many things will impact us in this trade period.

Jesus not getting Stringer or Smith and loosing Mots and a Lang would be an absolute disaster for us... Gaz or no Gaz
We may as well let Ablett go too. The whole point of getting Stringer and Smith is to add to our team to give us an immediate shot at a flag. If we lose Motlop and Lang and possibly Menzel, with Mackie and Lonergan already gone, then we may as well start a more extensive rebuild. Trading for a 33 year old is now pointless.

I just feel like we have a bit of a boys club with all these recent ex players on the panel.

I would prefer one coach who is older and not so fresh out of the game to offer a different perspective but others might disagree with me.

Nothing against Hodge personally.

We are not going to choose to rebuild now irrespective of Ablett or Stringer or Motlop.

I can't see Motlop going to North it will be interesting to see if him to Port pans out.

I would only kick the tyres on Watts only if he was very cheap which i expect he won't be.

We are firmly in a Premiership window.

A genuine one, we've needed these experiences in finals for the youngsters and we need to continue adding the 24-27 year olds who will play 5-8 good seasons for the club.

We will continue to disagree on Smith..and I hope Im wrong... but we will be getting a forward who kicks less than a goal a game. xsightTING not. imo. Perhaps he becomes a mid ...but he has issues with his knee..and we already have smalls with issues. ..
we have more dire issues ...like how do get the other Smith to play well for 4 games in a row.

On Ablett.. id be happy to see GC go to the mattresses .. Some GC supporters feel we will give them Duncan and P20 if no other trades happen ... this is extremely optimistic ..but who knows maybe the GC admin are extremely optimistic too.

someone not mentioned yet?Well we will see...

With all this talk we will end up with motlop cockatoo lang thurlow menzel stanley gone
Ablett in with 4 quick deals. Watts Crameri Impey and Masten
We'll be 18th for 18.
Please. It does appear we made big mistakes with menz and motters.
But surely a deal for ablett will get finalised and we get either stringer or smith or both. We can still match for motters if scotty really wants him.
Wells is surely not letting the mass loss for no gain scenario happen.
Settle..
Cannot believe that two prelim losses has sent the management into serious panic.

I almost feel like North will go all in on him and we will get better compo than people will expect.

Smith for 20.

Ablett for Lang (contract paid for season)

Watts for GHS and 33?

Trengove as a smokey?

We really have little choice. Let's face it, we aren't going to win a flag with our current team. Our midfield is lacking and our forward line is very average. Losing Motlop and Menzel with no significant additions would make these two areas of the ground even weaker. Only the most optimistic would see us having any remote hope of challenging in 2018.

Geelong will probably up the ante on getting Smith now, unless it was a done deal like some have suggested on here?

Ablett and Smith in is a decent trade period, just hope we don't see to many leave, I'd certainly be keeping Menzel, Motlop looks gone.

Chris Scot loves goal kickers ... pure coincidence that out goes Chappy , then SJ , then Caddy , and perhaps now Motlop and Menzel .... but never fear we will find Hawkins will be able to find a way to kick 80 goals for us.. although I'm not sure if I was Hawkins that id like to show I was that good at kicking goals. Best to stick to his career average of 2.1 goals a game

Smith for 20 would have to be a near certainty wouldn't it?

You'd think so. It was highly unlikely we were getting all three, I was hoping for Ablett and Stringer but Smith is a very good player, will fit in nicely at the Cats.
