We really have little choice. Let's face it, we aren't going to win a flag with our current team. Our midfield is lacking and our forward line is very average. Losing Motlop and Menzel with no significant additions would make these two areas of the ground even weaker. Only the most optimistic would see us having any remote hope of challenging in 2018.
You are missing my point. The board and the CEO are completely against a rebuild and want the current play finals while rebuilding policy continued. Unless you are proposing a new group will successfully form a winning ticket to challenge the board the direction won't change in the short term.

I almost feel like North will go all in on him and we will get better compo than people will expect.

Smith for 20.

Ablett for Lang (contract paid for season)

Watts for GHS and 33?

Trengove as a smokey?
Trengove is going to the Dogs is the rumour.

Given our need for a tall forward i wouldn't say no to Watts if he was cheap enough.

Ok. I get what you are saying. But it sounds like a recipe for a long period of mediocrity to me. We either get these players and give it a red hot crack for two more years or start a rebuild for mine.

Chris Scot loves goal kickers ... pure coincidence that out goes Chappy , then SJ , then Caddy , and perhaps now Motlop and Menzel .... but never fear we will find Hawkins will be able to find a way to kick 80 goals for us.. although I'm not sure if I was Hawkins that id like to show I was that good at kicking goals. Best to stick to his career average of 2.1 goals a game
I'd love to know where the goals are coming from next year?

I am not saying i necessarily disagree with you. I am just surprised that people keep thinking the club will do this when cook and carter have made clear they won't.

It's going to be an interesting and dare I say quite polarising next five years of list management I think.

I'm not sure of the ever changing FA rules but if Motlop goes to North or Port (if they miss on Rockliff) on 700ish we would probably get an end of first round pick.

That pick for Smith?

Carlton pick for Watts? It's a real gamble but would be worth it IMO.

Maybe even 33+2018 first for Schache?

That’s pretty dissaponting if we miss out on Stringer. I don’t rate Smith that highly and not that keen on Ablett.
I hope they look at the money for Stringer and look elsewhere for talent like Rockliff

I was talking about Stringer. Browne was difinative unlike Barrett who always says something like "right now it's" or "as of Friday it's"
I saw an interview with him on AFL tonight it may have been on Channel 10 as well where he virtually nominated Essendon to the supporter who pleaded with him to go to Essendon
I don't mind Smith but I have huge concerns over his knee issues.
I reckon this could stuff up our whole period as I reckon certain decisions on other players were made on the belief that we would secure him. I reckon the club have thought they have had him for a long time and may have been pipped.

Watts? I just sicked up a little, no way please god just Nooooooooo. May as well have 2 Stanley's running around.
Watts is a good player ignore this year as he had to play ruck with gawn out, he is a good skilled lead up forward.

Watts issue is people always judge him that he was picked #1 ahead of Naitanui if he was picked at #25 no one would bag him much. He is a much better player than Stanley.

I can't see how anyone pays Motlop that much then again Mayne got 500k. I reckon 2nd rnd compo for mots.

Brisbane won't trade Schache.

Will be interesting to see what Melb trade Watts for.

There is no chance Port can get Mots Rockliff and Watts with their current cap issues.
The Impey rumour will gain momentum as they need to clear space

Impey is possible but i doubt he is on big $.

Lobbe and Hartlett are the two who are but they tried to dump them last year and couldn't get it done.

Scenario Possible
Smith to Geelong for our second and third, we get pick 200 in return
Stringer to Geelong, for Carlton's second and Stanley (or whatever we get for him)
Ablett to Geelong, for Lang GHS and we get a pick back
Menzel to Melbourne

Motlop 50/50

and we then kick some tyres

and then we have a mystery or two in play
