Now Barrett is rabbiting on about Saints getting rid of Reiwoldt, it may be time to talk with him to see if for cheap he'd like a shot at a flag. Just while we work out our key position players for the future.
Just what we'd need at present.

Great idea. Getting him and Ablett in for one last big crack at a flag. I like it.

Trent Mckenzie anyone?.
Would come cheap is currently languishing in the NEAFL
Would provide pace and quality delivery off half back
fine player. Beautiful kick. Only issue is how many half back flankers do we need. Key position player and goal kicking small forwards are the issue for us. If Jake Kolo goes then I'd certainly look at it.

I really think that is a smart idea, especially with CHB as our current list hole. He can be a lead up forward.

I was really big on him back when he as drafted. That cannon of a left peg was crazy.. better than 2E from memory and hard at it to.

Fell off the footy wagon - not sure if it was application, talent, motivation or the culture of GCS that got him.

Could be worth the punt at the right price - but very LOW price at that.

The type of player that ends up cheap at the old Hawthorn and looks a gun. I think he was also one of the chandelier swingers so he may or may not be a good add.
I think these fringe guys are more likely to come from within > The club has seen them up close and know what they are bringing in to the main group. And I also still maintain that you can generally add a HBF type in the draft that is close to playing or can play within a short period of time. Really take his foot out of it and he has little that makes me drool.

Player have done it , to have one last shot at it but I doubt he will do that. He seems to be very much like Bartel. Once the Saints pull the pin , that will be it.

You are probably right, and he has always come across as a one team player, but I did think that of many players who moved elsewhere to finish their careers. What a perfect fit he'd be given our dismissal of so many CHF types leaving us with nought.
With him and Hawk up there, the threat would be enormous

Look at the way he is playing NOW , not what he was... and then track him 12 months down the road. If he really drops off , and the club after recruiting him still feels it needs to play him..

understand all concerns. Still think he is playing a good brand of footy. risks are not such a concern when you have noone else for next year. I think Taylor will need to play back when Lonergan goes, so what else do we have? House, Buzza and Ratagolea. Not really an option.

Considering Buzza is an option now then I'd say he'll definitely be an option next year after Lonergan goes.

I love the theory behind getting Riewoldt in, whether or not it's a realistic proposition. He'd make a great Sam Mitchell-esque trade target if we can turn him into a forwards coach, surely he'd be an upgrade on Rahilly there.
I think he is cooked and will hang up the boots this year. Heard he is having excess fluid buildup in the knee removed after every game and it's worse this year than previous years.

Interesting, earlier in the year I was hearing it was better than it has been at times.

I doubt anything happens, but it's a neat idea is all. And he'd definitely have a future in coaching if he wanted it.

Hope you're right but it appears next year may be a little early. A Reiwoldt would bridge the gap beautifully and may help bring ratogalea and buzza along. Id be attracted to a team like
Thurlow henderson ruggles
Touhy taylor kolo
Cockatoo s.selwood duncan
Motlop reiwoldt mccarthy
Menzel hawkins ablett
Smith dangerfield selwood
Menegola guthrie blitz parfitt
Emerg bews stewart murdoch

I see what you mean, and I would love it to if Riewoldt came to Geelong, I just think there's absolutely no chance of that happening. I'm happy with Buzza given a couple games this year at CHF to get a taste, otherwise Taylor/Stanley at CHF.

Then next year after Lonergan has retired, Taylor moves down back and Stanley/Buzza can play CHF after another pre-season.

Lonergans position will be shared and sometime will be given to Gardner.
Your point is a good one ..by next year one would hope Buzza or perhaps SavRat are ready for a game. If we found anotehr long term player somewhere , fine , but id hate to hold them up just for a short term 12 months outsider. Its part of the reason im not totally onboard with GA coming back , but I can see the temptation .. we have already got that much stacked on this play now strategy , why not just add a little more.

You would think with Cowan's injuries this season, he will be very close to the chopping block at end of season.

I think GAJ is a good chance of coming to the Cattery next season, whether that's a good thing or not, I'm not sure yet.

If the saints are ready to part with Riewoldt then we'd be silly not to atleast ask the question.

Highly doubtful that Roo would entertain playing for another club, he comes across as a very loyal person and if he can't win one with the saints then that's all she wrote.
