Tom Lynch (GC) a restricted free agent next year?

Would cost a fortune but worth it. Few retirements this year and if no one substantial comes in this year, we may have some $ available?
Interesting. I am not convinced yet but i will be happy if we get him, we need a good small fwd and a good 2nd key fwd and he ticks the former box.
Pure_Ownage what are your thoughts about another Tom Cat in Lynch as ScarlosToe has proffered? GC.

If Lynch walks from them , Id be very concerned about their future. He will be offered what ever it takes , so any offer will be matched. GC must get their home in order before he becomes a UFA and their future success is beyond his time frame.

I would be interested to know if the clubs view on our likely F/S picks makes it more or less likely that we would trade our 2018 1st rounder? Hard to know.

I think we can get smith without a 1st rounder and while i rate hopper like you i wonder if it would be worth it given how strong our midfield already is, is the gain just marginal? If we were to trade a high pick like that i would rather it's used to fill an obvious need like a key forward or small forward.
While Hopper will probably be a better player we already have Menegola, Scooter and Duncan. Hopper would be moving on the idea he will get senior midfield time.

It'd be great to have a couple of young mids coming up to replace danger and Sel. I think it'd actually be better that they were a bit younger still. As they'd still struggle for midfield time at the moment.

And I'm very keen to get another key forward even with Buzza and Sav developing well.

Is there an update on the father/son players? Are they all midfielders?

Would luv it.. but they would, and rightly so, ask 2 x Rd1, a Rd 2 and a player.

It would be so cost prohibitive but potentially so worth it.

I think they are all midfielders, unless Brownless can grow an extra +8cms, he's currently 187cm. I think Brownless is the best of the bunch from what I've read on limited articles, yet to see them.

I'm pretty happy with Z Smith's season tbh, his average hitouts is pretty high, and has had some good games. I don't think we need to go after a ruck in this draft or off-season.

I think we need a CHF, another classy midfielder, and a classy medium forward.

Once Loners retires, then Kolo and Gardner can fight for that spot. Once Taylor retires, we go FA, trade or draft another key defender.

Hearing a couple of things on the grapevine at this stage. Club expects D. Smith and Ablett to walk in pretty easily early first week, no issues (only what picks etc.). Interested in another forward for post-Hawkins era, but expect Lynch to be at the hawks next year, they will be paying overs for his worth.

As far as I know Lynch is not OOC till the end of 2018.. I can not see any deal that would encourage GC to trade him.

There was a rumour circling that suggested young Cyril wanted to head Nth. Would GC jump at that trade with let's say a first round pick, either 2018 or If Hawthorn can manage to trade back into this years draft?

Was just thinking about how well our post 2015 acquisitions are looking currently on recent form.

Z.Smith
S.Selwood
Dangerfield
Henderson

What a coup!
The reason we are still competitive right there.

Will be interesting to see how far we take it this year. If reports are correct and Ablett and Dev Smith find their way to the cattery then you need to look at the likes of Mots, Murder, Lang & Horlo and what they have to offer. Both to GFC and those that are interested. I'd also throw in one of Blitz or Stanley unless they can really step it up in the second half of the year.

Not saying it's an all stock must go sale but a few player movements should give is some bargaining or drafting power over the next two years. So yes we'd be looking at immediate success but also build with some better picks compared to our 60s and 70s of the last few seasons.

Are you suggesting Cyril and R1 for Lynch. If I was GC I would refuse to trade him point blank. Knowing the history of dealing with Haw id tread very carefully about dealing with them.

I personally wouldn't deal with Hawthorn full stop, It was a hypothetical. I hope that club rots in hell.

Hands off, thank you. :)

Smith just feels the more likely and Carlton picks up the dregs in Hopper. That will do.
Not according to two people with inside knowledge ... apparently Geelong are more than just balls deep in and the feeling is mutual ... one of those sources is a Carlton supporter too.

Which Carlton supporter said that and I'll tell you how good their mail is?

As a matter of interest how do you think you'd attain Hopper & Smith and are they the right players for you?

It was on a main board thread in early January. I'll try and dig up the post.

Harker you do realise that the Giants are not a Carlton development squad?
Didn't Collingwood get Treloar & Adams?
North Ahern?
Essendon Stewart?
St.Kilda Bruce & Steele?

Carlton may have seemed to have raided hardest but for good reason and only to get the players we really wanted, whilst helping out GWS on the back end.

StKilda may have danced with the devil and look to have come off better.. good luck to them.

Im not sure what GoldCoast should do .. for to long they were poor off field, I think they have corrected that..and the AFL should hang their heads. If you want to send guys in to indian country and dont give them the best of the best they are just asking for a failure. The afl smarts have to be questioned if they thought all that was need was a few good players. Once they get the best conditions they may keep players , once they start keeping players the can draft heavy and build a solid group from 2-4 drafts in a row. I believe they have started to do this , the players they took last year might actually be their best draft haul.

So id be staying away from a repeat of the Ablett approach..they talk about chasing Fyfe ..and perhaps they feel they need a name for the local market ..maybe they should petition the afl to introduce Franchise players to help foreign markets.. 3 players outside the cap...but while its all coming from the same pool I think they need to ensure the kids they have drafted stay and are happy about it. The best doctors , the best facilities etc.

Cyril is exactly the wrong type for that. Im not even sure how he would go in a struggling side.
