Bombers pick 9 to GWS for Shiel then WCE can try and trade for that pick and on forward it to us for Kelly??

Realistically there is lots of ways to get into the top 10, this year or next??? At the end of the day it is the Eagles that need to make it happen. Like we did with Otto and what Carlton did with Juddy

TK is a top 5 or so player for our side. Therefore we need to get compensated appropriately.

I can see it happening. Freo trade 11 for 20 & 22, then send picks 5 and 20 for Hogan. Then West Coast send pick 11 our way for Kelly.
Then all the West Coast nuffies say

"I TOKD YOU YOU WOHLDNT HEY A TOP 10 PICK FOR KELLY!!!!1111"

Then Wellsy says 'Well, it was top 10 before compensation"

When are we planning on fixing our ruck situation? We have gone after 2 small/fast forwards now.
Not doing so this trade period according to Wells.
Club is happy with Stanley, Smith, Abbott and Sav as their ruck stocks

Will we retain any of Murdoch, Menzel and Thurlow ?
Wells told NAB AFL Trade Radio yesterday the Cats had made it clear to Daniel Menzel, Jordan Murdoch and Jackson Thurlow that the club would reassess the lie of the land after the dust had settled on the trade period.

“We’ve made it very clear to them that we’ll see how the trade period goes and talk to them more after that about their future,” Wells said.
I wouldn't be surprised if we retain any of the trio the can't find a new home - it may be a case that the club will offer a 1-year deal if any of them are homeless & doubtful of finding a new home via the delisted free agency period. I think the fact that we didn't delist them at their exit interviews & have kept our options open for now means that we won't necessarily cut them.

From afl.com.au regarding clubs unsigned players:

Geelong:

Unsigned: George Horlin-Smith (unrestricted free agent), Jamaine Jones, Daniel Menzel (unrestricted free agent), Jordan Murdoch, Sam Simpson, Jackson Thurlow

The Cats have already made six delistings and traded Lincoln McCarthy to Brisbane, while adding Nathan Kreuger. Horlin-Smith looks bound for the Gold Coast, although the Suns are keen to seal his move via a trade rather than risk their Tom Lynch free agency compensation. Thurlow and Murdoch have played a fair bit of senior football and should be playing somewhere next year, and Jones was one of the heartwarming stories of 2018. Simpson is reportedly close to a new deal.

Interested to get peoples thoughts on how we are looking to attack the remainder of the trade period and the draft considering the below:

Current outs:
Aaron Black
Corey Gregson
Ryan Gardner
Timm House
Lincoln McCarthy
*Matthew Hayball
*Stewart Crameri
*Rookie

Add to the above the further potential outs:
Jordan Murdoch
Daniel Menzel
Tim Kelly
George Horlin-Smith
Jackson Thurlow

In total that leaves us the potential of having 10 senior listed players out as well as 2 rookies.
Add 3 senior listed players in Luke Dahlhaus, Gary Rohan, Nathan Kreuger and maybe Oscar Brownless and we still require 6 senior listed and 2 rookies.

Current draft hand:
12, 50, 60 and 87. Later picks may push back depending on when a bid for Brownless comes.

How do people think we are going to fill the remainder of the list spots?
No doubt there is potential for 1 or more of Menzel, Thurlow, Kelly, and Murdoch to stay, however, I think it is likely at least 2-3 will be gone. We may also see Henry elevated to the senior list which will give us the option of gaining a new rookie (maybe Mensch).

We may receive a very late draft pick for Horlin-Smith, Thurlow and Murdoch however, I don't see this increasing our draft hand greatly.

Thoughts?

Jack Henry & Zac Guthrie have also been elevated to the senior list; so technically we have added 5 senior players so far.

Could we possibly grab Himmelberg for one of West coast picks?? I could live with losing Kelly if we can get him.. He is exactly what we need up forward... Might also have to give up a future pick to land him though.

Changes to the list will be dependent on the Kelly situation, where he could stay or get traded for 1 or 2 picks.
If we trade him for 20, 22 then I can see us only using 3 picks + brownless FS

Main List:
Out: Black, Gardiner, House, Gregson, McCarthy,Thurlow, GHS, Murdoch, Kelly
In: Dahlhaus, Rohan(61), Krueger(42), ZGuthrie, Henry, 12, 20, 22, R4(Brownless)

Optionally, if we get a single top 10 pick for Kelly, or he stays, Wells must decide what is better - pick 50 or Murdoch/Thurlow.

I reckon you're right.
Personally I would prefer to keep Thurlow, Murdoch, Menzel, Pick 50 in that order.
If it were up to me Thurlow and Murdoch would both stay on the list.
Thurlow would be perfect as a designated kicker with this 6-6-6 starting position crap, and Murdoch gets shit canned here, but he is nowhere near as bad as people make out IMO. Menzel is cooked, unfortunately and pick 50 is meh.

If we can't get gawn or grundy, who is worth getting that is an improvement on stanley that isn't old and broken down, or we have to pay the earth for?

Our options are pretty much non-existent. Might have to pick one up in the draft to develop. Which we should do anyway.
someone in the pick 50+ range who's played at GDFL/VLF would be good.

Thurlow stays for mine. He could lift a gear in 2019 knowing how close he came to being booted. I think we’ve seen the best of what the rest has to offer, excluding Kelly who doesn’t want to be at GFC.

As for list size, the most we can have on our list is 40 (primary) and 7 (rookies) with 3 (cat B rookies) and minimum list size is 47 all up. As it currently stands, we have 40 in our total squad and we’re bound to lose Kelly. So we’d need to use picks 12, 50 and 60 at the draft. We’ll also use the pick/s we get for TK, meaning we take 2-3 rookies.

Edit: to clarify, Murdoch, Menzel and Thurlow all stay unless we can get a pick inside 60 for any of them.

we are getting sorted fwd. No the focus needs to be on the centre. we need a bloody good young mid. Hopefully Kelly gets us that. Midfield have not worked well this past year.

we gave up a player for Otto to melbourne so that Melbourne could give that pick to us to give to rich.

Menzel is a no for me now. I can see why posters on other boards ridicule him. Yes he can contribute but not within a system. He really would have starred in the 2011-2014 period, no doubt.
Murda yes and thurlow yes if no one interested. Both are more durable than Rohan.
