Why are any of you surprised teams don't want to start cutting each others throats in any way by making other teams pay on draft night?
It would just come back to your club eventually so it makes zero sense. Quite frankly, very surprised seasoned footy fans would even venture down that thought path.

It's not cutting their throats - it's making them pay true value for their academy player.

Dogs won't take Kemp. He's the last thing they need. Their midfield is set for the next 10 years (Bont, Macrae, Hunter, Smith, West, Dunkley etc) and even if they wanted him as a key/third tall forward, they've already got Naughton (Best young KPP in the comp) Shache and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan next year through their academy, who some see as comparable to a young Lance Franklin. It's an incredible list they have, with their only forseeable hole being an elite small forward, which is why they'll take Weightman or Bergman Imo (Bergman not a small per say, but more of a need than Kemp).

If Kemp makes it past the Hawks, which I highly doubt he will, then he's making it to us as the last thing Port and the Dogs need are inside mids. Robertson I'm not so sure, reckon he goes to Carlton or Hawks.

Kemp is a) a gun midfielder in the making and b) multi positional which Beveridge loves, he doesnt like traditional talls. Theyll take him imo.

Sydney has pick 5 so let’s use them as an example. Why would Sydney want GWS to pay true value if it means they have to pay true value themselves for their own academy players in the future?

It's only a matter of time before someone does wrong by another club. If his the best player available you'd surely be interested.

Why would you keep giving these clubs who have that many concessions on players a free run at continuously getting better? (with the exclusion of the basket case that is GCS)

Therein lies the problem. Green is essentially not “available”. Sydney bid at 5 (and piss GWS off in the process), only for GWS to match and get their man anyway. Why bother if it ensures GWS won’t bid on Sydney’s academy players in the future? There is a tipping point but you can add 5 - 10 positions to where a player might otherwise be picked, IMO.

Sydney should be bidding because they need a quality mid and he is best available..nothing to do with GWS.

what do you like about Dow?
I’d rather Stephens but I just think we need to add midfield talent. And hope that a couple of them develop well enough to take over the older mids. He seems like he’s in a good spot to develop. Had a good season but with some time could blossom. Looks like he needs to add some size. Being around other talent can rub off as well. His brother and his two mates from school would’ve helped his development.

Which is a fair point.
But clubs have been taking players only for clubs to match. So whys it any different now?
Essendon put a bid on SOS son and it was laughed off.
If Green is the best available at 3 or 5 you'd be stupid not to have a crack.

Read my post above. Green is not “available”.

Plenty of academy plsyers have bids not matched though. Thats a pessimistic view.

If Sydney don't bid welcome to the future of draft once they get rid of the discount teams will wait even longer to bid to make sure teams don't pay fair value still

And yes i am melting early lol
Maybe chill out and make yourself some biscuits

It isn’t any different. You can add 5 - 10 positions to where a player may otherwise be picked as I said above. Bailey Scott, Nick Blakey etc. People are surprised every year about where F/S, NGA, academy players are bid on. This year will be no different.

So Sydney have said they won't bid on Green. Not in the business of making teams pay. This entire bidding system is a farce.
Cause sydney have had a dream run with academy players. They have benefitted more than just about any team from it. And still get father/sons on top. No wonder they don’t want to put a bid in, it might screw up there golden academy advantage in future. It’s total bullshit the advantage they have had.

JoshDunkley (i know he was FS but the point stands).

At pick 25. Sydney’s final pick was only a few selections later and they had players on their board that they rated higher than Dunkley. This has been widely reported. Essentially, Sydney didn’t want Dunkley (which looks silly in hindsight). GWS’s second selection is pick 40 and there won’t be anyone on their board at that selection that they rate above Green.

What are the chances we end up with all of Robertson, Kemp and Gould?
2-3%
It’s looking more and more like Deven Robertson and Brodie Kemp will be available at Hawthorn’s first pick. After them, I don’t think the Dogs or Port will take either of them, so we’ll get whoever Hawks don’t take.

I’m thinking they’ll take Kemp given they’re already getting Maginness as a FS.
You'd think with Mitchell and Worpel being "Robertson types" they'd go for a point of difference too if it comes to that.
I reckon the Hawks could very well pounce on Robertson because Darren Glass (his uncle) is there. Although, you may be right, given that Kemp has more position versatility they may indeed choose him. Most of Hawthorns midfield, are just that, they play midfield and that's about it. Kemp offers more flexibility.

Glass is at West Coast
