Bryan was one of a few of the VicM kids that took my eye in the SA game ...looked quite good overhead and neat footskills ... but we just dont seem to like kids..

Smith will be gone .. he is the oldest an not an uto selection.. its just a mater of who he is replaced with.

If Abbot is not doing enough to get selected in front of Stanley ..then he will be gone 12 months as well.

And if we went a traded in King then Fort probably would be a casualty of that...

My point re casualty is it would be them requesting a trade not us delisting them. Smith is the only one OOC and a chance to get delisted. We like to have ruck depth so the others wont get delisted while contracted. Its more that if we bring in Darcy or Goldstein or another ruck Stanley and/or Fort might request a trade to another club where they think they can get more gametime.

The casualty ref was if we bring in a King type , most likely 2020 .. it would affect Fort position the list.

You have to wonder the value of rucks when StK is offering a big contract to a kid that has not played a game...

I'd consider King a forward not a ruck personally. Hes going to be a really good KPF which are rare whereas you can get B grade rucks in lots of places. You dont pay big for a Ferrari and use it to do a Holden's job. I expect StK want to get Ben to be bookends with Max long term considering McCartin is probably done and their key defenders are ageing or average.

I think Fort is more seen as a fwd/ruck and he would back himself to get games given Hawk is 31 and Esava is unproven. Its Stanley and Abbott as pure rucks that I think would look for trades if we bring in another specialist ruck.

Someone who is the Kings height will prbably get asked to play some ruck ..unless they are the #1 KPF..like Max will be , and perhaps Ben
Id hope he could become that..but either way if we got a player like him id say it would could Fort.

Given that the Saints are going after the Draper the 20yo 203cm Ess ruck , they already have Marshall in the ruck for the future ..add Max King..thats pretty tall. For Ben to go to Stk he would have to be happy to possibly play in D .. im not sure he is. Forwards are nearly always worth more dollars.

If Fort cant get his marking stronger then he will not make as a forward.. he really looks like a classic ruck trying to play forward atm.
Put it this way .. our rucks would not prevent me bringing in a ruck 20-23 that we think could become our #1... the only question would be quality.

And Sav and Krueger look like a good potential pairing but unless Sav changes his game .. we could still get a bear in the square at some stage to replace Hawk. But Im jumping the gun .. be good to see Freddie play first before I start locking him in for 100 games plus..

It will be very interesting who the club looks to add at years end ... Mids , KPP , Rucks ... probably at least one player from each role

I think of the options and assets available the draft will be the place we land - although with the rumored quality less than that of last year ( with Clark @15 more like a 7-8) I’d see us use collateral a bit in 2019 but also look to gain assets in following years in terms of future picks too.
So push a pick to a later year and trade out of this year - using our ladder and finishing position as a hedge to slide down from top 2 to top 6 (after potential retirements and trades etc)
Just another way to stay up now with what we have, pick something high this year but then have the ammo to go again year after allowing for thst fact that a top 2 finish might not happen again in 2020.

Go Catters
The top end of last year was abnormally good so this year is probably more back to a more normal year.

I like the idea of futures for sure..not so much as a down on this year but becuase what I think next year may have more appeal.. Obviously Id like for us to go hard at King..but maybe an extra couple of pick next year may be handy for Henry jr if available etc.

I guess I have to look at the pick we are swapping to get into next year... If others expect us to finish top4 .. I doubt that someone like Gold Coast will be trading their R1 pick to us..

Man ..I watched a bit of the nba draft ..it seems a very common practice to leverage the next year... certainly could be one way to go especially if we are probably 12 months off having more holes to fill than this year.
Was thinking the other day about leveraging the 2020 draft. If we lose Kelly and get a current and future first in return, what would it look like if we traded this years first for a future first.

We'd have a standard draft this year and trade fest the next rocking up with 3 firsts at the 2020 draft and a first in the 2021 all on the table. A bit unprecedented a trading hand walking into a year where we may be losing Hawk and Sels

Would the club gamble like that? They would know how they think next years draft will be... but to trade a known for an unknown next year.. the risk get multiplied. I doubt Carlton would do their deal atpit ..looking at P2.
Needless to say.. as I have been an advocate of prepping for an advance on KIng next year then obviously there are elements of that idea that appeal to me.

has anyone seen any of matthew ling in the neafl for sydney? pretty sure hes the only top 30 pick from his year that hasnt played a game yet.
was kind of interested in him in his draft year, could be another boomerang falcon for cheap.
Apparently playing as an outside mid in the NEAFL but only averaging 11 disposals. Not promising

If we trade pick 15-18 then it's reasonably likely it'd be an improvement. I don't see it as being any riskier than taking that pick. All picks are a gamble

Just seen what people views are... Would you rookie list Aaron Black next year? Before he did his knee his for down defence was really good.. but will be 29 I think... Only thing is the age, would it be best rookie list a KDF...
I was reading Knightmares draft almanac the other day and he mentioned Hugo Munn as a forward who could be developed into a KPD. With a Harry retiring soon and having a couple of year's left in Hendo (maybe) he might make a good understudy that we could pick up for nothing

To be fair Darcy tired because with 2 short on the bench they couldn't rotate him for rests-the first half i thought he was good considering how elite Gawn is. He'll never be athletic but the hope would be that as he loses puppy fat and builds endurance that he can be a crash and bash second effort at clearances Mumford style ruck. I wouldnt take him as the main part in any Kelly deal but as steak knives I'd consider it.
He's 21 and has been a professional athlete for 3 years. I think we can stop calling it puppy fat

I wouldn't. Abbott outperforms Smith most weeks at vfl level and is younger and on far less wages than Smith. Given both of them are just backups for Stanley anyway i know which i'd rather keep. Smith should be a far better ruck than our others with the attributes he has but he really hasnt done anything since 2017 to show it and at nearly 30 i doubt he will. Abbott is at least improving week by week.
Is he outperforming Smith or just being given more opportunity?

Sounds like the kind of soundbite Riccuto just makes up. Aimed at crows fans who just watched Lycett tear our best ruck apart for 4 quarters.
That was before last Saturday and it was Dale Lewis

Pure_Ownage ....

What do you know about the under ruck at Freo Lloyd Meek.. OOC ..

21yo .. 2 years at Freo .. and built like a big boy ruckman that could push some guys around.. his vid a couple of years ago showed some skills ... I don't know how he has gone in the wafl ..any idea?

He's an emg this week although hasnt been producing much in the WAFL. Although to be fair Freo have often had Darcy/Meek/Jones/Dixon/McCarthy in the same WAFL side so some talls have been played out of position. Id prefer Darcy tbh but he wont come cheap.

The club doesnt publish the exact vfl TOG stats to really tell us who gets more ruck time and who plays fwd. But on most output measures Abbott has been the better of the two recently.

Nah he was drafted as a bigger set ruck and because he's had injuries it will have limited his chance to get fitter so far build endurance and drop the kgs is my point.

Its bit hard to compare the two when one has been played and the other hasnt.. to me the kid is built like a mumford only taller ..and shows more mobility in the kids than Darcy, thats going back a couple of years ..but Darcy was prefered obviously for reasons. To me someone like this has the advanatge of already having a couple of years in.. and is OOC...read gettable. Just like my debate with 2mp .. id be happy enough not to add someone who will be demanding games almost straight away... one would think that the old Freo town is only big enough for 1 ruckman thats 21 built like those two .. and a kid from Ballarat may well think Geelong is a good fit . Who knows get them to throw him in as an addendum to a deal.. Smith out and this kid in would seem a step in the right direction ... but sure swing Darcy and its sort of a similar deal.

Darcy is more valued by them and his games and contract status reflect that.
Meek im not against but he isnt worth more than a R4 at best hes just a throw in player.
