Now that Kelly has come out and said that he wasn't ruling Freo out, unlike last year, I don't think we'll get reamed. A fair bit of pressure for WC to put an offer on the table that is at least similar to Freo's best offer. I can't see Geelong knocking back a better offer from Freo just 'to be nice'.

I think it will come down to which club makes an offer that Geelong sees as sufficient, and saying to Kelly that if he wants to go home then that's the club they'll be trading with.

Kelly has already said that he will entertain Freo if a suitable deal can't get done with WC (or his manager has at least). He will of course nominate WC as his preferred, that doesn't mean it's WC or the highway (draft), which many people on the WC board especially seem to believe.

Edit: No formal trade request yet, manager's comments were on the hypothetical if Kelly requested a trade.

Agree.. I have no wish to screw Stk over.. as you may have gathered by recent post... player who siggn and then want out annoy me a bit.. ofcourse all situations are different. We also have to look after #1.. so something in that range... all good.

There's more chance of me finishing up at Freo than Kelly it's all smoke and mirrors he will be at WC or still at the Cats next year.

I'm not sure of that, the two reasons widely reported that he didn't want to go to Freo last year have both disappeared now, which is probably why he's not ruling them out this year.

Edit: I suppose it really depends on how much he wants to 'go home for my family's sake'.

Certainly first half. Tapered off like many I guess. Doubt if he can get better without Kelly feeding him and potentially Ablett.

I also doubt Sean Darcy will be included either. He’s young enough to be part of their next build and they’ve have no other ruck.

Adam Treloer went for two top 10 picks with a pick back. And Kelly is a much better player. So it’s not as though he isn’t worth it and this isn’t a string draft. So it isn’t unreasonable. I just can’t see us getting both those picks.

It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out. In hindsight would we have been better to trade last year? We failed to make enough progress this year. And last year was a stronger draft. Probably the answer is yes but the Eagles wouldn’t put up the trade. If we go at those 20s picks and a pick this year. We might have ended up with Hill and O’Halloran from last years draft.

The reason he's not ruling Freo out is he's realized the approach they took last year no competition cuts the guts out his own worth in negotiations with West Coast.
