Justhaving a look ..Sydney have a couple of Kids coming thru next year as well.. so maybe they will want their FR picks ... what does Jones get them?

2019 R2 from stk i assume.

A round 2 pick for Zak Jones seems like a great deal. He has some deficiencies but he’s a good player. I wish we were getting in there. I know we were keen in his draft year his pace and aggression would be handy.
But it seems we are not in the race anyway.

Listening to Wells on Friday it seems we will concentrate mostly on the draft. I certainly don’t mind that if we get some good picks for Kelly. If we take Kelly out and don’t add anyone to replace him it’ll be hard to see us doing as well as this year.
But perhaps improvement from within can bring enough to the team.

Its probably not the best year for the draft... oh well
Might be worse next year if there is all these Academy picks taken.

Fair enough, the gap between his best and worst is just far too big for an experienced player IMO.

I don’t mind your idea of an extra tall next year though. I’d be playing Kreuger instead of Abbott personally, we clearly lacked marking targets up front.
Yeah that can even work if playing Kruger..... Which still allowing 2 big tall targets going 50... Lol.i will comprise 😜

Who would like Jamie Elliot in our forward line?
Heck yeah.
But I think his $ may be out of reach, considering we gave Taylor and GAJ 1 year deals.
I think the strategy is to add via draft this off-season, and maybe 1 or 2 top up players this year, like Jack Steven or if we can broker straight swaps for perhaps a forward line player, and trade out a defender.

Then go hard for Jeremy Cameron as FA next season.

Lions have come a long way in a short time... im not convinced his right for hem either but that FA in the afl....you add who is available if they wish to come to your club

Imo .. Its a taste of what is to come if we don't build a youth foundation soon ..only the normal way will require us finding talent later in the draft... and mistakes will be made , there will be churn. Gees we didnt draft worpel for example. so you need to draft 10 to get 5 to 7 if all things are going well.

Yes for us to do what we did this year we have be done by draft & internal improvement imo. Kelly is probably worth a couple of wins..

Not sure if mentioned but there’s an article on foxsports (trade preview) that says Saints want a pick in the 20s for Steven.

If this is true it might explain Wells saying talks were a long way off. I don’t want to even trade 36 for him!

You wouldn't even start to consider a trade in the 20's.

Don't get me wrong he has talent in spades but i would rather hit the draft than pay him 400k-500k or so for maybe 11 games a year
Agreed with you there, would depend on how he went with his medical. If the club thought they could get the best out of him I’d be all for it!

Won’t happen anyway, think he’ll end up a lion.

As our list stands right now, I'd be playing Stanley as No.1 ruck, Ratugolea as 2nd ruck/forward, Hawkins FF and Krueger at CHF.

That gives us plenty of marking power, athleticism and if one of them gets injured then we've got cover during a game, rather than ****ing up our whole structure by moving Blicavs away from FB.

Sick Miers/Dahl/Atkins etc at their feet and we have a nice forward line

Shit yeah, plus both our rucks can play forward if need be, but they have to work on their goal kicking.

I think adding Krueger while Hawkins and Ratugolea are in the team takes too much away from our forward-line pressure. For me, the forward-line pressure was the best thing our team did in 2019 and the major reason we saw a resurgence rather than the expected drop off.

Yeah but you're not losing a forward who can apply pressure, you're gaining an extra marking option as well as adding to the ruck, which has been our biggest weakness for 8 years.

You'd replace one of the defenders to bring him in so really it would serve two purposes.

I think replacing a defender is a separate problem. Stanley & Ratugolea are ruck/forwards and won't be used in the backline so we're carrying a lot of tall guys we have to rotate through the forward-line. I can't see how we are not losing forward pressure with Krueger's inclusion unless you are planning on playing him in the backline.

Have you actually seen Krueger play?
