from P.O. "Hes good and out of contract but we have a decent lot of small forwards...if he improved his tank to play wing id be keen".

IMO Specialist small forwards are more important than ever.

We have three smalls up forward at AFL level. Miers, Dahl, Atkins. Two are there for their tackling / pressure. Only one of them is a specialist small forward.

Tarca is just getting some traction in VFL but unless Bolton has some issues or would be too expensive, I would put him into the basket with the two specialist small forwards we have : Tarca, Miers (and Bolton).
Spot on. We should have 4 on our list at a minimum. 2 genuine small forwards are not enough

Until Cockatoo plays some games again I’m not going to get upset about the idea of him leaving. We carried way too many players on the list that never played for too long. He has serious talent no doubt but he needs to be able to play games. With the team performing well there is less pressure for them to rush him in. If he can play a series of games through the vfl this year and stay injury free I’d be happy. He would be a fine addition to the side but isn’t irreplaceable.

Maybe, but i also think a big part of finding someone to trade in for unders is making the player really want to come, and to do that you need to really need them.

Consider this year. We pick up Dahlhaus and Rohan for pick 61 and a minor amount of cap. Why does Dahlhaus want us? Because he's a natural pressure forward being played as a mid at his old club. How appreciated do you think he felt there? Rohan being told to just clear space for buddy? We had no pressure forwarfs and Dahlhaus wanted to come to fill a Dahlhaus shaped hole. Rohan came to fill a Rohan shaped hole. If you go back to 2015 and look at the cats midfield you realize that Dangerfield came to fill a Dangerfield shaped hole.

If we try to trade for a Hawkins replacement now we're trying to get them into the VFL side until Hawkins retires. Not sure I'd lead with that in a sales pitch.

Consider the Lynch trade as something we'd want to replicate. Lynch looked at the Richmond game style and saw a flood of entries and only one tall forward getting on the end of them.

My thinking is that if we're going the be a good trade destination for a kpf we need first, a job opening, and second we need to increase our total entries.

So for me if we're looking at trade target for 2020 then it's to fill a Kelly shaped hole. If nothing presents and we have two firsts then i would say best 180+cm mids for both.
Sales pitch is easy. Honestly if we had a quality KPF come in he would play alongside Hawkins and push Ratugolea to vfl then lead the side post Hawkins with Sav.

I get your point and I love cheap moneyball recruiting but A grade key forwards always cost a trade premium thats just how it is. And you can only really draft them with early picks which we really have. So either we moneyball unproven kpfs and hope we do a statistical unlikelihood of turning late picks into A grade KPF or we pony up big time for quality. Theres no third option.

Got to say, Parish does nothing for me. Can’t see any real weapons that he brings to AFL level. Reckon we can get a better mid elsewhere.
Hes a decent stoppage based player but ess play a run and gun style that doesnt suit him. I think hed be better in our stoppage based gameplan but hes vanilla and Dodoro would want too much for him.

Realistically no chance.. Maybe we can talk about someone like Hayes ... Not sure but the absolutely most we get is a R2
Id prefer not to trade him but OOC and injured wed get peanuts like with McCarthy. Rozee Duursma and Butters would be untouchable. Hayes and a swap of picks (say r4 for r3) in our favour is about the best youd get and id reluctantly take that. Id ask about someone like Atley or Drew but i doubt theyd do that.

OOC players that are not main stays really are not worth much ... so players that become GMHBA adds , no matter their talent , become churn. The flip side is other players are cheap as well. I dont think Ports OOC list is that appealing to be honest. I dont know what our plan is for Cockatoo this year but we would be in a lot better position if he came back and played a bit.
