What do we think of Dowling in the VFL ... looks a nice neat kick...
Isn't this our year to recruit from the wafl? Being an odd numbered year and all. Maybe Marlion Pickett being taken in the mid-season draft broke our momentum

Jezza Goddard is ruck in the wafl
I love giving state level players chance playing for our great club, I'm a big fan of them but our history in picking State League Ruckman not the best lately.

Now of course this is slightly subjective, but it's a rough approximation of the 5 best mids in each side, that would attend the most CBA's in a game.

Adding all the above team averages together and then dividing by 18, we get -

Average Player Height (amongst best 5 mids in each team)= 183.84 CM

**********************

Parfitt and Narkle are both 180 CM and both Brisbane and Richmond (in the top 4) are 181.5 and 180.3 CM averages respectively. The average player height back in 2009 was 188 CM, with that figure closer to 189 or 190 CM now. You can actually make the argument that being much taller than 184 CM, actually means you're less likely to be one of the the more elite mids in the comp. We also have one of the taller averages in the comp, for all those banging on about 'drafting another 180 CM mid.'

No way Shiel is 182cm. I was talking to him last year in Sydney, and I was not looking up into his eyes, if anything I’d say he’s slightly smaller than me and I stand 176cm.

At least he is the right age and height ... I haven't seen much vision since his champ days... if you want a tap ruckman he is it.. what he is like around the ground... no idea .. and we seem preoccupied with that..so he may not be our type..

The average 9 disposals doesn't scream ground level effectiveness but the age, dimensions, and hitout numbers seem like a decent base to develop from

He would be a late pick so hardly costly ... my preference would be to pay a bit more for a better potential player if possible ... obviously if they have not been drafted originally they had stuff to work on. We have Stanley and Fort for another year .. so we have plenty of backup ..what we need to do is just bed down someone for 3 years time .. so best to do that with the best assets to build on.

Hey I have no idea if the listed heights are accurate, just that that's what they're listed as on footywire and Essendon's webpage. I'd personally say he's around 178-180 (same as Zach Merrett, as I think he might be less than listed). I also think Gaz is not 182 either, but who knows

Interesting analysis.
The interesting thing with Lions too, is that McLuggage their tallest is probably more an outside midfielder too atm...
I think people get caught up with the bigger inside midfielders because they have a tendency to look more powerful at the stoppages, but sometimes that can be an illusion... Just like a full moon in the horizon, always looks bigger, lol.

You know what, imagine getting 2 first rounders for TK, plus our existing first rounder and our second rounder and we could pick up:

Luke Jackson
Jeremy Sharp
Cooper Stephens
Cameron Taheny

They will all be in range with Late First Round to Second Round!?

Ruck, Outside Class, General Midfielder, Best medium forward... That's a decent draft haul.

If we can win a Flag this year, I'd be okay with a TK trade and list cull and get some genuine young guns in for a quick rebuild.

Sharp is looking like a top 10 I think, and isn't Taheny a defender?

Probably more to build on than our other depth ruck options but we'd need the Goldstein rumour to be true and for Goldy to be fit for the next 3 years at least

Sorry for the intrusion guys, was wondering why Buzza is languishing in the two’s ? In this day & age with the way ruckman have more mobility, wouldn’t he be an ideal back up? Hope my curiosity doesn’t kill the Cat. 🤭😉
Good luck in the finals guys, you’ve been a champion team for a number of years.

He’s not much of a ruckman. More an ordinary forward who can pinch hit in the ruck.

As we have a silly match committee that not giving him much of a go and what his like... He should of played a few games this year when Sav was injured. As he is competing for Esava spot. Key Forward that can pinch in the ruck to give the ruck a spell...
I'd love to give him another 1 year contract as he is a key forward and they do take a bit longer to develop and he didn't start playing the game till 16

Mobility and lack of forward pressure probably. I could only see him getting a game if hawkins was out.

Hawkins forward pressure is actually pretty good for a big man. His pressure ratings are good.

I dont think he has rucked that much this year.. we have had several talls in our VFL sides... Abbott , Smith , Fort and Stanley have all played VFL .. so Buzza has mainly played as a KPF.. and hasn't been picked in spite of fairly consistent form. I doubt he is at Geelong next year.

He's done enough to have earnt a call up. Just not able to push past the other candidates. I think he should be given another year as this has been clearly his best year to date and he looks like he's ready to become solid depth for the squad, but given he hasn't been given a run is say he's out. Shame

Hes one of the best rucks available and he's FA so costs no picks which is probably the appeal.

Is GSt the best option available? If so it really says a lot about how poor we have been in managing our rucks. I strongly suspect when the season is done..we will again look at our rucks and and say we have frittered away another chance due to obstinance..

We simply must add someone that has some youth about him..someone who has the attribute require and probably the attributes that the MC like... if he is 2-3 years off playing it will not matter..

I will say ..maybe we are lucky ..or clever the way we added Krueger. This years crop is devoid of potential KPF stars.. and I though we were in dire need.. mow the need for KP talent forward or back is there but not as keen. Unless we can turn Schlensog etc in a def tall , perhaps even or need for a player capable of KPD . We do tend to like value at the def end... so id not be surprised if we see a mature over looked type somewhere.

Wed have a lot of money set aside for TK so we could pay Hill well if we wanted.

There maybe someone else chewing up dollars I doubt we dump 900 on Hill. Gst will want some... Bulldogs board think we are into Jenkins... im not sure who but would it really surprise if we suddenly go for a big dollar 26 year old player ... we love instant gratification..
