So Kelly out and Steven in.

Do we expect any other trades or shake up.
Seems a bit light for yet another failed campaign. The Richmond demolition yesterday may lull some into thinking we are a close 2nd. Maybe we are and very little needs be done except some luck. I feel with the above as our only moves, tougher draw, we’d have gone backwards. This year we needed another 1-2 strong mids without losing Kelly.
You'd think they will shop the following also, but unlikely to net much:
  • Abbott
  • Buzza
  • Smith
Might get 3rd rounders for each of them at best, but most likely token 4th or 5th rounders, unless there is depth player we can trade for.
GWS may look for Rucks both Abbott or Smith. Saints may look at Abbott. Suns may look at Buzza, and maybe even Dons may look at Buzza if they lose Daniher. Just likely suitors unless they are delisted.

Abbott has another year on his contract I think, the other two would be candidates for delisting if no trade is forthcoming

Just curious, how much of our Salary Cap in % terms would be tied to our Top 4 paid players (guessing are these):
  • J Selwood
  • T Hawkins
  • P Dangerfield
  • H Taylor
Then how much of the Salary Cap in % terms would be tied for the rest of the Top 15 paid players (just guessing remainder also):
  • Blicavs
  • Tuohy
  • GAJ
  • Scooter
  • Henderson
  • Duncan
  • Menegola
  • Dahlhaus
  • Stewart
  • C Guthrie
  • Stanley
You'd think Z Smith, Parfitt, Kolo would be just outside this list, or thereabouts.

As you'd think H Taylor retired would free up near 650-700k? Which would enable us to offer that as a minimum for TK, or go shopping.
Enabling Blicavs and a lower paid Henderson to assume key posts down back.

I quite liked Taylor this season, but he could drop a lot in form by next year, and that's a lot of salary cap we could free up I think.

Why wasn't it done with the other two
First to 4th year players have exit meetings on different days. Also depending on which trade targets actually eventuate they can hold off. But it should happen this week.

he was on serious coin

Long time lurker and rare poster but find some of the comments too hard to resist.

There is a seemingly strong call to cull a lot of players and a real ageist approach. As I recall we finished on top of the ladder and were half a game from beating the eventual premiers. In fact with a bit more accuracy we could have been destroying the Giants and not given the Tigers that pleasure. Yes bad kicking is bad footy but the point is we were close. Is a drastic cull necessary and are we really that far away?

So if we cull older players what do we get in return? A 5th round pick I expect. Can we trade them? Is so what value do they have, clearly not much given the comments so at best a late 3rd or worse. Will that make a difference?
Looking at our list of the 44 still remaining we have 7 that have not played a game, 3 more who haven’t played this year. Throw in Fort, Abbott, Zuthrie, Parsons, Fogarty, Constable, Clark and Atkins and that’s 18 players we could consider under development, admittedly a couple are best 22. So if we cull Ablett, Hendo, Cuthrie, SS, Taylor, Menagola, 2e we could add another 7 speculative picks meaning of the full 46 we could have 25 development players and 21 left over. Of course we have to exclude Kelly as he is probably going and Smith who I expect to be cut. Not sure but I think that impacts are depth just a lot.

So sure maybe another couple need to go along with Jones, Cunio, Smith and Kelly but we won’t be getting much in if they do. Let the experienced players keep going until they are forced out by one of the development players. Lets face it we have enough of them. If they aren’t good enough to displace long serving servants of this club then they can go.

I'd keep Henderson

Why bother? Waste of time. Prefer to pick a goer late in the draft from the state leagues. There’s something wrong with his will and fight. Absolutely a disaster of a pick. Failed every test. Another H&a specialist who can’t cut it. Should have kept that pick.

Yeah, on a similar page, unless the club wants to bottom out for a season in a year or two, but its definitely not the club strategy.
I was just thinking offload or trade players that MC won't play - the likes of one or two of Buzza, Smith or Abbott. Keep one for depth. Probably ask Harry Taylor to retire, and play Henderson in his role on much reduced salary. Give GAJ a new contract on reduced dollars, but only play him 12-14 games. Also retire Scooter, but give him Captaincy in VFL squad. I think most people think similar.

Dont be fooled by ladder position we are 6-8 rank side at the moment only a golden run at start of the year did us huge favours, we need to cull as we dont have the quality to go next level...

At the cost of our future as they will gobble up all our top picks
It would cost more but if we somehow magically turned Kelly into Laird and Crouch then it’s hardly costing our future and as pointed out we wouldn’t be a worse team next year.

We’d still have our 1st Rd pick and another exceptional player and one very solid one.

If we take all the Kelly picks to the draft then why not look to trade Blitz or Duncan while your at it as I don’t believe we will be at the pointy end next year. Kelly got 7 BOGs this year

Crows going to want two 1st rd picks for Crouch as he still contracted, laird wont cost as much but we either still looking at pick 22, or 33

Agree and they have won more than their fair share of trades
2016 prestia for pick 6 was a win
2016 lids for caddy massive win
2016 banker is for pick 46 win
2016 vivkery for second rounder, massive win
2018 conca for lynch massive win
2018 Lloyd for pick 64 was a loss
2019 Pickett and stack for free massive wins

we need to consider our wise selections thurlow, Lang, smedts, cockatoo, henderson
Stupid trades for Varcoe and caddy

Bravo Richmond I guess, they also did screw up a lot and became a laughing stock because of it through the late 90’s and early to mid 00’s. Getting Balme and Caracalla is the best thing they did, and they did so because they saw how influential those two were at Geelong, Dimma even admitted to wanting Richmond to become like the Geelong footy club in terms of staying up there and contending, prolonged success, even said he loves the cats in a way.

How things turn though, it is now Geelong who should look to Richmond as to how you go about it to get back to the top.

So if the asking price is WCE 13, 22, 31 for TK.

Would we give up Pick 16 for Laird at Crows? What would his price be?

Then go to draft with 13, 22, 31, 36, etc.

If we land 13, we will need that if we want Luke Jackson.
