Geelong is consigned to losing star midfielder Tim Kelly, who’s set to declare his footy home preference over the coming days.
Kelly is set to inform the Cats this week that he wants a trade to West Coast where his young family will have a strong support network in his native Western Australia.
After earning All Australian honours in his second year at the Cattery, coach Chris Scott has made it clear his club will demand a high price for the uncontracted midfielder, with any protracted negotiations likely to hold up other trades.
Geelong teammate Mitch Duncan said Kelly “definitely hasn’t come out and said anything to the players yet” around his future, but admitted the “writing is on the wall”.
Yeh true...driving up his price maybe?a bag of chips ..this time of year

If we dont develop a better mid group there will not be much rebounding it will be inbound ball. Is he a player that would be in our best 22? Yes. Is he the last piece of the puzzle and we have no other holes to fill? Far from it.
Our rucks are a mess. Our best mids are 30 plus. As is our best KPF who's absence had a key factor in finals failure most critics eyes .... and to bring in a one of the easiest roles to fill... channelling the 2e recruitment.. another window player... wrong way to proceed imo.

Are there any good midfield replacements?? Will there be a quality midfielder around with our first pick or does it taper off drastically from the top half dozen or so?? Would want to know what we could draft first with that pick before declaring its better suited at draft. Laird is an elite player and it should be a very good kid available to knock him back wanting to come
Who knows if he's got any more growth in him but is athletic and not a total beanpole has bit of size about him but expect few clubs need ruckmanHas he grown a few more CM?? was only 198cm and only a ruck
Laird would be taking a Bews or MOC spot and while laird does offer more attacking intent can he lock down on a player, does he have the paceAre there any good midfield replacements?? I'm liking the news update, not the news.Andrew Jarman said on Triple M that Jenkins wants to come to Geelong and we are interested.
Isn't he going to Carlton? What's Jack Martin worth in people's eyes? If he is able to be snagged for our late first rounder (which is the guess I've read a couple of times) I'd pay that personally in a heart beat. Is that too cheap? Too much? I'm struggling to get a read on him in this market.
That's the whisper but they have to land Papley too.Isn't he going to Carlton?
Is that him saying that when he reported it over 2 weeks back?Andrew Jarman said on Triple M that Jenkins wants to come to Geelong and we are interested.
TuohyCan someone please tell me who 2e is....?
Cheers
I have to say, there's merit here. We have put some monster midfielders in at the bounce (Ablett, Danger and Selwood) and it didn't guarantee anything. The balance is more important. In that sense I feel losing Kelly isn't the worst thing to happen. As good as he is he doesn't defend well at stoppages. I'd be playing Danger forward far more too. Change our centre square makeup to have far more Parfitt, Guthrie and Dahlhaus who all have excellent defensive games and see if we can hang in during the tough times better than we have recently.
Would could force west coast but we wont get as much back in the 2nd pick at least with 14 & 23 gives us couple solid picksCarlton will give pick 9 for Papley and a future 1st for Martin.
Can't believe Sydney will get a better pick for Papley than Geelong will for Kelly.
He always striked me as a unfit midfielder in that he spent so much time in the forwardsWhat's Jack Martin worth in people's eyes? our mids are build for contested ball and clubs worked out they only need to get close on numbers as our uncontested ball is poor, what worse putting Parfitt, Dalhaus and Constable is not going to make it better as they also build for contested ball, we need the likes of clark who can run the lines to step upIt's pretty funny seeing how people here seem to think Richmond can do no wrong and we've made numerous mistakes. Remember a week ago when we were missing 3 key players to our early year success but were 21 points up at half time in a prelim and should've been further in front? Yes they're a very good team (better than us) but there isn't some yawning chasm between us.
From our finals performances our weakness is clear. Our midfield has this horrible habit of becoming VFL quality for a quarter or more in key moments. When our opponents get lots of quick, easy ball into forward 50 it's impossible for the defence. In that sense I feel losing Kelly isn't the worst thing to happen. As good as he is he doesn't defend well at stoppages. I'd be playing Danger forward far more too. Kelly, Duncan and Danger break lines. Guthrie too at times. I think we have had line breakers.our mids are build for contested ball and clubs worked out they only need to get close on numbers as our uncontested ball is poor, what worse putting Parfitt, Dalhaus and Constable is not going to make it better as they also build for contested ball, we need the likes of clark who can run the lines to step up
Danger and Kelly break lines with pace Dunc is slow and with the loss of Kelly we are going to be in a little bit of trouble having to rely on defensive reboundKelly, Duncan and Danger break lines. Guthrie too at times. I think we have had line breakers.
I'm not sure what the balance is. Maybe a great ruck solves it all. But my feeling is I'd like our over the ball players feeding our next layer of mids that then break the lines. Clark coming off the square receiving that grunt work is where I'd like him.
I need to watch some mid set up and clearance work video. Realise how much I'm just guessing at this stage on gut feel.
More than some clubs have got from a pick 1
