WARNING TO ALL VISITORS TO THE GEELONG BOARD. You are - for the most part - welcome to discuss the current list management & trading situation at Geelong. However, this is our board, so be respectful of the home board posters & don't inflame arguments (make your points succinctly and move on). And if you're just here to troll, then don't bother or you will be enjoying a holiday

The difference between Richmond and Geelong is predominantly the backlines. They have small guys that are composed and good users of the footy like Baker, Short and Houli and unfortunately we could probably only put Stewart into that Category. Taylor, Blicavs and Henderson are good players but their weakness is probably being caught out 1 on 1 and giving free kicks away. Most games they get away with it, but not against Richmond. On the other hand Balta, Astbury, Grimes and Vlastuin actually thrive in the contest. Then there is Kolo and Henry, well unfortunately they just struggle in pressure situations and make a few howlers each game that costs us dearly, as it did tonight.

Whilst chasing Cameron and Higgins would be nice, our most pressing issue in the short term in my opinion is to change the make up of the backline. If we dont, I doubt we will ever get passed Richmond in a big game.

Add some run, good decision makers and some talls that actually can defend in 1 on 1 and not panic and give free kicks away.

WE have 3 x Rd1 picks in the draft.

WE have been suffering from poor skills under pressure.

#1 pre requisite - elite skills as ball user and kicking skills. Regardless of their position.

Also get games into more kids next year and if that means no Higgins then so be it.

GO Catters

Parfitt can get in the bin. Players who have a career worse game in a Grand Final should be moved on.

Every post of yours right from the start has been mindless ... perhaps your a little overwrought...take a rest.

We basically had our best 22 available tonight except maybe Clark, I hope that the addition of Cameron and Higgins as replacements for GAJ & HT means Danger goes back to the midfield and Blics moves back to perm defender

Probably going a bit knee-jerk here, but based on tonight, when it got difficult, too many players threw in the towel and refused to dig deep. One thing the great Geelong team of last decade did was fight and claw for every game, every contest, and most of all, played for each other. Bringing in a young nucleus to grow and develop together, experience the wins and losses as a team and learn to work with each other creates bonds that can't be matched by plug-and-play 'mercenaries'.

Higgins turned us down last year, apparently we've been chasing him since before that, and only now, when he'll be 33 before his first game next year and he can no longer get his desired contract from North does he want us. When the tide is against us and the chips are down, will he be up for the fight, or will he just be content with a cushy contract and playing some finals.

All my opinion of course - after a disappointing night, but I'd really rather Higgins' spot is giving to a youngster, and we hit the draft with our Kelly compo. Create that young core that will deliver a brighter future.

There was a time as a Cats fan that when we were losing, I had the utmost confidence we'd fight back and win.

Now, even leading at the half, I knew it was over. The Martin goal broke us and it was glaringly obvious.

Can only carry 1 of Kolo or Henry IMO and for me it's Henry easily. Better mark, more agile and far more courageous. Prone to making skill errors but no more so than Kolo.

I'd seriously consider seeing what trade value there is for Kolo but Harry's retirement will probably see him stay.

1. Go really tough on Cameron. He’s a FA, 28. Don’t submit to GWS’s crazy demands. FA’s don’t have same value as non FAs after years of service. 1 first and a second. Maybe a fringe player. NO PARFIT.

2. Keep two first rounders. Trade up and grab Bruhn Or Phillips. Need gun mids after Selwood.

3. PLAY flipping CLARK ROUND 1

4. Higgins at 33 pass.

I wouldn't trade either as neither are going to bring much of a return. Send one to the VFL it then puts pressure on the other to preform. Too many guys assured of getting a game rather than earning it week in, week out.

Would like us to play hard ball when it comes to Cameron. No trade and roll the dice that he'll still be there come our pick in the pre-season draft.

Maybe do a sweetner deal (ie: Narkle & Constable for a 4th round pick) if GWS are willing to take the compo pick.

GWS have a hell of a lot more to lose out of all this than us IMO. Take the compensation pick (pick 9) and a couple of players or lose him for nothing.

If we miss out on Cameron, we still have our 3 x 1st round picks and should persist with one of the kids Kreuger, SavRat, Taheny.

Same goes for Higgins & I.Smith.

Which players are GWS reportedly interested in realistically obtaining from us in a J Cameron trade?

I wouldn't be opposed to releasing any one of Constable, Narkle, Simpson, Fogarty, if they want any. So long as we only cough up one draft pick in the process.

Some leg speed around the ball would be nice. Tiger's leg speed killed us.
Spot on. Its like we need two fast wingers.

And I don't see it in our next gen players - Brownless, Parsons, Kennerley - are pretty much recruited for the outside role and to perform two way running, but they don't exactly scream as line-breakers.

I think Close, Evans, Tarca are small forwards only.

Clark is a defender really with his marking capability.

Cocky looks gone and dusted.

What is Jack Steven's contract? Could we release/retire him?

I would really like to agree that Jack will be a different player next year. But watching him live, and through binoculars, he clearly has some kind of issue that goes beyond fitness. His hands were shaking ... he was panic-stricken each time he got the ball ... he could barely make contact with either hand or foot ... it was awful.

I don't want to feed speculation, and I feel very sorry for him, but expectations that he will, at the age of thirty, improve, won't be borne out until there is a dramatic change in whatever other issues are causing these problems. I think the club was playing him to try and instil confidence and self-belief, and I actually admire that (while feeling very sorry for the players who were cost games as a result), but it backfired.

PArtner and I thought exactly the same (without mentioning it to each other), but feel it is a lack of skill, composure, and pace, not of will. We had players who were injured and showed incredible courage to play on.

Selwood had the same look on his face that Harley did towards the end of the 2009 grand final. I would not be at all surprised if he retired, unless he has an injury (other than the finger) that we don't know about. We need a couple of classy mids, who we should be looking for in the draft not the trade.

It's not baby and bathwater time, but it is clear we cannot beat Richmond with the current group of players. But we're better than 16 other teams ...

We will get a little pace into the side with Taylor and Ablett retiring, Tuohy could be in trouble as he's out of contract, if GWS want Sav/Henry I would do the trade as both dont look like being more then foot soldiers in Scott set up, no to Higgins and if we could move on Dalhaus I would but his contract will be a problem
