WARNING TO ALL VISITORS TO THE GEELONG BOARD. You are - for the most part - welcome to discuss the current list management & trading situation at Geelong. However, this is our board, so be respectful of the home board posters & don't inflame arguments (make your points succinctly and move on). And if you're just here to troll, then don't bother or you will be enjoying a holiday

What do we do with tuohy? he was that half back running long kick we need but the MC dont seem to rate his defensive work anymore and now out of contract
Last I heard was a 2 year deal for Tuohy - the problem I have is that I don't know where he fits in the team

He's been pushed out of the defensive unit with Bews & O'Connor preferred for small forwards & even Kolo gets that job sometimes, and add in next year that Clark will hopefully be pushing for a spot, it makes even less spots for him.

Seems that he's almost too good to not be best 22 but they don't really know what to do with him - if we're honest, his best spot is in defence, so if there's not a role there for him, is he still best 22 going forward?

I don't necessarily want to lose Tuohy off the list as I think there's value in having him available, but I also wouldn't be in a rush to re-sign him and would wait to see what else happens

I've got everything crossed, but I'll believe it when I see it. Bit of hope though, thanks for sharing. :thumbsu:
Will make a big difference to the drafting strategy if they can get him without forking out picks.

And what gives you any idea?
If fairness to him, the Saints sound like they’ll be paying Brad Crouch more than the Cats are paying Jeremy Cameron, that Is laughable.

2E offers more up forward as a defensive forward than Dalhaus, and potential more as a leading harassing forward than Rohan.

With Ablett gone. Cameron in. I reckon there could be a still a spot for 2E.

If Blitz goes back to replace Taylor then 2E may be our utility to provide flexibility across defensive forward, wing, or small defender during a game.

There is no reason Blicavs can't pinch hit in the ruck whilst being predominantly a key defender.

No for me. Need to be settled in the back half and if it comes down quickly while he’s rucking spells problems.

Not even remotely similar examples.

GWS is a plastic club full of players only there for a paycheck and cheap flag with a history of leaking players year after year. It's a surprise to no one that after one of the most embarrassing GF performances ever (Topped by only Port's against us) that they've finally fallen in a heap.

Same goes for the Crows, already considered the #feederclub and the GF abomination just exposed that even more.

We're a proud club, seemingly a destination club, and we'll come back from this. We put up a solid fight in an unbelievably tough year against a now all time great team. The examples couldn't be further apart.

Im not sure we can carry two lock down small defenders that dont generate much run one of Bews or MOC needs to be replaced with a more attacking defender Clark may be that defender but I prefer Clark on the Wing

Might depend on what the list sizes are next season. If they are reduced he might find himself out of a job as there are younger options on the list. :(

Don’t think it’s Bews. He’s become a good defender this year. MOC, Kolo and Henry has shaky grand finals. One of them makes way.

The next 2 years are all in.
Higgins and Smith
Yes
We need to continue to play Miers and Simpson but continue to develop there bodies
Bring it on
Are you talking about Devon Smith? Which Smith?
Seeing Joel finally fall back to the pack has enlightened me on how important his replacement will be.

Our young mids are a supporting cast, love to be proven wrong but that's how I see it. We don't have our A-Grade movie star yet, in this example.

Parfitt - Could be anything, could be nothing. Personally I see a solid second or third string mid who will have moments of brilliance and some great games, but won't ever be that number one that we crave

Fogarty - Much the same just minus some of the polish of Brandan. Handy 3rd of 4th defensive mid who can maybe rest forward. Think Kieren Jack lite.

Stephens - I don't see special personally, if anyone more in the know would like to enlighten me on him feel free, but I don't see the 'It' factor. Seems like a great kid and will get every last drop of potential out of himself, but I don't see number one mid here. Love to be proven wrong. That being said, he's a good looking dude and poster boy potential if he ends up any good.

Narkle - Who knows, flashes of brilliance mixed with complete absence from games. If reports are correct he's out the door, but I back our club to make the right decision on this one. Rare that these ones have come back to bite us, Cocky in the same boat.

Constable - Is he GHS or is he Patrick Cripps? Probably somewhere in the middle, closer to the former than the latter. I like Charlie, but until he fixes his endurance which the club has made clear is what's holding him back, I don't see a future for him. Can find the ball seemingly at will which you can't teach, but unfortunately that's not everything. If he's out the door I back the club that they've got it right.

Simpson - Love this kid and the way he goes about it, but he's the icing not the cake. Classy, tough, bit of polish, but you want him receiving the ball and delivering, not getting it at the coal face.

For me, whether it be through trading up or hoping for a slider/Smokey, a future number one mid is a must.

This is so spot on. When I looked out our team this year with Guthrie and Menegola in the midfield most times, it seriously felt like we were gonna pinch a flag, rather than win one.
We do not have an A-grade star midfielder under age 25. Not yet, maybe Parfitt could be a very decent second-fiddle midfielder, the rest are not gonna be match winners week in week out. There is no Dusty, Danger, Fyfe, Pendles, etc in that group of kids. We need to get one in, soonish.

with all respect.. can I ask what you are basing that on? You see nothing special? From what? The few scratch matches hes played during Covid? Youd be an amazing scout if you can pick talent based on this
He screams workhorse in the footage I've seen of him. Not genuine superstar, just a solid player, more like a Menegola type. Though I reckon Menegola is potentially better overhead and more depth in his kick. Stephens may have a fraction more pace, but no line-breaker there. Both will be similar in endurance to run out games. But who knows, he could develop and prove me totally wrong. Some of the superstars were an instant hit in year 1, others were a hit in 2nd year. Some take a lot longer. However, I reckon we will know his ceiling and with relatively good idea by end of next year.

Simpson?? 😯
Agree Simpson done enough to get a new contract, GWS wont want any of those 3 but happy for all 3 to find new homes then just list sit
Simpson has got something, and is composed under pressure. A 'keeper'for mine.
I agree, I like Simpson and would keep him. However, if the going price for Jezza Cameron is 2 first rounders, but they will take Pick 11 or Pick13, bundled with a Simpson. Then I would say, yes that seems okay. Provided Simpson would be okay with the move. If Simpson's trade value will save a first round pick, why not? Midfielders can be found easier.

I’d trade Kolo. Him and Henry in the same team doesn’t work. Need more run like the Tigers have with Short and Houli. Clark needs to play.
I reiterate that Kolo is the harshest marked player on our list. He gets no respect despite routinely beating his opponents this season.
But this is the lunacy that this board produces, that not only can someone suggest a defender who regularly stops his opponent get traded, but just so that a fast guy who can't defend can get games, and many agree with you.

Our most underrated player on the list.
Nothing wrong with wanting some more run on the list, not entirely convinced Clark is the man. Would love to get Witherden back home.

But I think I will keep sticking to defenders who can defend over those that can't or can't do it as well.
I sure hope that remains a focus for Scarlett over the summer.

Can see what you're saying, and kind of agree, but he's a good player, and a FS...... It'd be harsh
