I always thought the best sort of pressure was the scoreboard kind. Higgins with his silky skills hitting forward targets lace out. Our forwards will need to put in time on their goalkicking (except for Miers)

Yes, that is pressure of a different kind.

I see him as a one way runner (he will look good when the team is flying and not so when we are not), could be wrong, which then causes pressure problems in other ways.

22 year old for a 33 year old. Fogarty’s best years are ahead whereas Higgins are behind. It’s a one year shot at a cup deal. We have given up on developing young players. Cup or disaster- no excuses!

The difference is, Fog was tried, and he showed his best traits as a mid - albeit with some shocking disposal by foot. With Stephens showing good signs and Simpson and Parf really coming on, plus our already stacked midfield, there's not really a spot for him.

People are forgetting, it's Carlton that approached a contracted Fog and offered him more opportunity - not Geelong trying to get rid of him. It also means we're more likely to keep Narks, now that we have that extra list spot available - who I think is an upgrade on Fog - so it's a net zero loss all things considered.

GWS offered Simpson 450k a year and he said no. Will re-sign at Geelong for much less.

I was thinking about how you mentioned Simpson a while back. If true, that shows just how much he loves us, and just how much no-one of note wants to go to GWS now.

Will absolutely thrive next year, and get a big pay packet down the track in turn. Absolute class act

It's absolutely true.

Did you know why he turned them down? 450K for a guy in his early 20's is a fair bit of money to knock back

Maybe not everyone is motivated by money, and if he keeps tracking as we saw this year then he'll earn improved contracts at Geelong

Lifestyle could be a factor, while he may have watched his GWS have handled this off-season and decided he doesn't want to be involved with a club like that

Really happy to see Simpson stay

Absolutely agree. Kid is gonna be huge for us - and it shows by GWS offering that kind of money off literally less than half a season of exposed form.

I'd say because of his love for the club as a father son, his old man is a ripping bloke too, was tough and hard, not saying he wont leave down the track though if he was to get a monster offer.

I reckon most players would take success over money now.

Players who have taken the money haven't really done much over the last few years and I feel this has reduced the desirability of taking a cash grab.

Unless you're trying to get out of GWS like Caldwell, Williams, Corr and Hately :p

He would have grown up as a cats supporter. Might be a dream of his playing for the club his dad did, and grew up supporting. Some things are worth more than money.

And who tf would want to go to gws anyway?

Net zero loss for 2021, maybe 2022. . Fogarty’s best years will be from the ages of 23-29? Judge then I guess. Higgins needs to be involved in a flag.
