Jenkins has been injured most of the year.

Couldn't break into the team against the swans after we had kicked 1 goal in 3 quarters the week prior.

He has been up for selection for 5 weeks and hasn't had 1 opportunity to play as a key forward.

Why did we bother to recruit him and why would we chase another key forward.

Josh Jenkins is a proven AFL level key forward, yet he has been picked for 1 game this year as a ruckman.

Surely he is not here next year and are we planning a style change as well to incorporate a 2nd key forward such as Cameron or Daniher.

Why would Kreuger, Ratagolea or Jenkins stick around if we do recruit another forward.

Josh was bought in as INSURANCE on cheap coin. Who can pinch hit in either position. That is all.
As for Krueger he is a 3rd tall option until he shows he can do something else?? Still not convinced he will step up FWIW.
SavRat is still emerging as either a forward or ruck. Which one? That will pan out and reveal itself most likely in 2022-23 i would think.
FWIW some think TommaHawk will be at this level for the next 2-3 years. I for one believe that old age & big form drop offs go hand in hand.
So fingers crossed Hawk doesn't get injured/suspended and Stanley comes back and we don't need that insurance policy to be cashed in.
Cheers TP

Cheap insurance policy.

mainly insurance on base $
By all reports he was flying pre season then covid break and back injury set him back
If something happens to Hawkins or another tall we can break the glass

What other tall.

Hawkins is the sole key forward.

Ratagolea and Stanley are picked to play ruck.

Jenkins is our 2nd best option to play key forward. The fact we dont have a quality ruckman, we then try and compensate by picking 2 or 3 of them each week.

Hawkins and Jenkins to play key forward, Goldstein to play ruck and Blicavs key back along with Kolo and Henry.

In : Jenkins and Goldstein/Pruess

Out : Stanley Ratagolea Taylor Henderson

Well last year we had to play Hendo forward. JJ better option than that

Was it to appease clubs with FA coming in?

Yeah I think so. It’s just a messy system. I hope they just get rid of the restricted element and transition to unrestricted after 8-years of service. It seems that’s the way the game is going with ease of player movement being a big priority for players and the AFLPA, it’s only a matter of time anyway. It’ll be swings and roundabouts for clubs, you’ll win some and lose some over the years IMO

Yeah long shot but I think most would’ve seen Neale to Brisbane or McEvoy to the Hawks as long shots to, it does happen however infrequently.

I was thinking of McEvoy in this instance. That was a shock when he defected to Hawks. Just goes to show, it’s always worth getting in someone’s ear and asking the question. You just never know. You can only ask.

Like Nik Cox .. a Blitz ish type...... I think he took a setshot on his left ... that is unusual. He would have appeal if he had the athletic gut running to match the height and skill. Not sure on his number but we know how much they like Blitz

His duel sidedness is one of his positives that really stands out. He’s excellent on his left.

Seriously, and this is far from personal because I love the guy, but Sav is not a ruck and he isnt a forward. He is not a footballer.
Why cant we just throw it all at a ruckman. We have damn near everything else. But we keep throwing our best defensive leader into the ruck and its mental. If Blitz can stay back, and Sav can stay elsewhere and someone else takes care or the centre bounce, that has to be the missing link.
If we blow the kitty on a player who is a mid we are just setting ourselves up for more years of pain. We already have players like crouch and we dont even play some of them.
Stop being sucked in by shiny things
We need a damn ruckman
Sav isn't being played ruck because we see him as the next coming of Nic Nat. He's played there because of necessity. Stanley and Fort were both injured, and we needed to see if he (or Jenkins) could cut it in a final. We have our answer, and it scares me if Stanley injures himself again. At least Fort should be right to go for the QF is Stanley doesn't pull up (media says he will be right, all of it been precautionary like Selwood which is because he is (100%) the MVP when it comes to winning the flag for us with Hawkins, Ablett and Stewart.

Sav will come good up forward, I have no doubt of that. But right now, he doesn't have the confidence. He sits too close to Hawk which makes it easy for his man to drop off. He either clunks marks or doesn't get his hands near it. Very hot and cold, which is confidence and experience. Needed a full year in the VFL 2020, but hasn't got it due to circumstances. 20201 should be that year. After Hawk retires, he'll be our main bull out of the centre square monstering defenders. Part of the issue is we can't play two of them.

If the Saints are keen on Brown, could we get in the ear of someone like Marshall (especially if Ryder re-signs), as Brown could well mean another player that Marshall is behind if the Saints continue to view Ryder as their #1 ruck

St Kilda is emerging as a potential new home for soon-to-be-discarded Kangaroos forward Ben Brown, according to veteran AFL journalist Damian Barrett...

...“It’s going to be at a club that’s either in the finals next year, or one projecting to be in the finals next year,” Barrett said on AFL Media’s Footy Feed.

“I’d be watching this space on St Kilda. While people will say they’ve got (Rowan) Marshall and (Ben) King and (Paddy) Ryder coming in to help out there, King still needs some support.

“I’m not locking him in there, but they’re a club who’s active in this space. He’s gettable now officially ... I’d be keen to see what they’re gonna do once they come out of the finals this year.”

Serious question, as I don't get to see many / any Dees games: how did he go from annointed captain to actual captain to tradeable ...

Perhaps he lost the captaincy due to a lack of continuity through injury and there simply being a better option in Gawn.

The tradeable part perhaps is a different question. He's likely to be on a big contract and the value proposition is now in question given their failings in 2020. Oliver and Petracca have well and truly surpassed him as inside players with much quicker hands in congestion and are also offensive weapons with line breaking ability and excellent disposal by foot.

Viney turns the ball over quite a bit, gets caught often and doesn't have much of an outside game.

He's a warrior but lacks class, so it's a pass for mine.

First I’d say Melbourne want to keep him & I think it’s extremely unlikely he’ll not be there next season, from a personnel perspective Oliver came to the fore really quickly, Petracca took the next step this season as one of the better attacking mids in the game & Viney’s inclusion back as a full time on baller after a few years ravaged by injury has pushed Brayshaw further out of the picture along with Harmes, they like the Sparrow kid as well so if Viney was to leave numbers wise they could cover it,

I wonder if $$$ & contract years might come into it, on face value you’d think how could we possibly pay more than they could but looking a little closer... May, Lever & Gawn are all extremely well paid, Petracca well compensated & his next deal will be even bigger, same with Oliver, Tomlinson & Langdon paid very well too, they’ve got some money coming off/decreasing with Jones, Hibbard, & they try and move McDonald but they’ll be looking hard at Ben Brown & frankly any forward.

Haha this might not really be an answer to your question.
Great answer. Thank you 😊

Interesting you're seeing pros and cons - appreciate it.

Time to open up the Swans playbook. We kind of want Saints to lose first week, and for us to do the opposite. Let results speak and draw him for opportunity.

Dont see Brown at Saints to be honest .. seems an unideal fit ... with their rucks and Max King
