True but its list management ... there will always be churn ..

List management isn't throwing youth into the bin. We have players at the bottom of the list to get rid of way before Sav.

"There's been some positivity that's come out of that structure (one tall forward), but not so much that it trumps having another really good strong key forward and Ratugolea has been really good for us in his own right and also has the potential to be exceptional," Scott said on Thursday.

"We haven't seen enough of the structure over the last couple of weeks to think it might be OK without him.

"I think we're a better team with Esava in it."

The other possibility is North are clearing the decks for Cameron, hence Brown being put on the table and them being open to moving on Higgins etc. They really are desperate for that big fish. I think they need to sell some hope to their supporters, ensure decent membership numbers is maintained as they aren't a financially strong club.

Maybe if have come in on the wrong end of a post.

Im not advocating we delist or trade Sav ... only that we not pin all our hopes on him being our best #1 star KPF in the future

When Im talking youth and list management I'm referring to many kids that get drafted and are gone after 2-4 years...happens each year

There's only one comparison I can see between Daw and Sav and it's not how they play.

Both ordinary kicks ... both have very good spring , both come from a non afl background ..

The thing I will say ... moments can play a huge role in a game of footy. This marks he too against rich... do that ina game and swing it our way ..and all his issues are less relevant.

Is Cameron Taheny going to end up being our Mitch Thorp? We selected Cameron at pick 50, GWS at pick 51 picked Jake Riccardi who looks a dead set gun.
Obviously not quite the same as Hawks missing Selwood but got to say atm spewing we didn't get Riccardi.

Hardly. Thorpe being P6 .. and Joel being P7. I agree id like to have had Riccardi ..but you cant have them all and Tarheny was highly rated. I gues we will have a better idea in a year or two. It is dissapoint in to misson Riccardi for several reasons. The club would have known about him ..even just the lane would have meant tehy would have looked at him

Im not saying get rid of him at all costs only if a suitable offer comes in what we really need to do is get the doggies pick 9 or 10 (if Crouch leaves) with 2nd rd draft picks as they have 3 kids to pick up for NGA, would put us in a very good position.

Cameron won't go there imo

Daw does not come from a non-AFL background.
He played school footy for MacKillop and TAC for the Western Jets.
How is that a non-AFL background?

I agree PO, I think it's very unlikely too. But I just don't think it can be ruled out either given North have massive $$ to offer and Cameron has lost quite a bit this year with COVID. If North offer say $1.2M on a 5/6 deal, that could appeal. I understand he won't like living in Melbourne, but he only has 5-6 left in the game, so he wouldn't be there forever. And living there on that kind of money would make it much more palatable IMO.

What would we be offering - $900K to $1M on a 5-year deal would be my guess??

I think with Z. Williams leaving for Carlton, and no doubt some other guys, Cameron and his management would be very aware now that GWS have more money to play with. Apparently GWS had offered Williams something in the vicinity of $700k per year. That's quite a bit of money saved there.

My guess is Cameron and his management are likely using us and other VIC clubs to get GWS to offer more $$$. I think GWS will up the ante a little and he'll probably stay there. I just hope we don't miss out on other players in the meantime as we have that money set aside for someone who clearly hasn't given us an answer either way.

Brown officially told to find a new home. Why wouldn’t we throw a fair bit at bringing him in?! Would love to see him leading and either marking or creating space for Hawk.

Sav played TAC too but Im sure I have heard him say he has not grown up playing the game. If he did fine then thats a difference.

You're both right - taking this from Wikipedia as it's more concise than looking up multiple other sites

He played TAC, but he didn't grow up playing AFL through things like Auskick and progressing thru the under age comps. Looks like he was around 12/13 when he started playing which may be a bit older than some

Ratugolea was born in Griffith, New South Wales. His parents are Fijian, and arrived in Australia a few years before his birth. At the age of six, Ratugolea moved to Cobram, Victoria. He only began playing football in 2011, after previously playing rugby and soccer.

Thinking Brown is better as the main target rather than playing further up the ground & working as the decoy

I know it's often used in a mocking way when talking about Blicavs & running patterns, but Brown is basically the exact opposite & is a straight line runner, so if the opposition drop someone in front of him, he's not as effective

If we bought him in he's not necessarily going to create space for Hawkins, but rather you'd more likely be looking for Hawkins to create space for him

Either way, North have declared their hand (in ushering him out) so can hardly demand much in a trade. 60+ goal kicker at a bargain price - yes please.

Jack Watts has retired. Dodged a bullet there

But what are his thoughts on ****? :tearsofjoy:

Because he isn't very good. His body is stuffed and he has no agility. So he can only run in straight lines, and teams have figured out just to plonk a defender in front of him and he can't do shit. He's essentially become impotent.

No chance. North are going to find it extremely difficult to land a big fish, who would go there? The list is likely to be blown up and they’re heading for another rebuild, a premiership is not likely in the next 4-5 years for them IMO. Cameron would only go there for a mega, mega contract.

Gotta feel for them. The contracts and $$$ they offer some players and STILL noone wants to play there.
They just lack any kinda sexiness

I know like 2mil a year.

None of those options are correct. McCarthy was fit and healthy and playing before he chose to go to Brisbane. He also got to play with his best mate.
He played 4, 0, 9, 3, and 2 games in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 respectively when at the Cats.
He's played 24 and 15 games at Brisbane in 2019 and 2020 (2020 season not yet finished, and missed a game or two with suspension).

Im not sure that's a degree of difference in durability that's explicable solely by being fit and healthy at the point of departure.
