Nobody here is, Simpson has been a revelation in that spot the past 2 weeks, no need to waste money on Crouch.

Surely our interest has cooled more and more since:

(a) his stupidity out on the town with Stengle; and
(b) Sam's extremely promising performances in two massive games in the past week or so.

Really glad he's not coming. And that's even with the prospect of him being a decent pick-up for the Saints. Just have to back some of our own group in.

And it's not like we don't have a few to consider...Narkle, Stephens, Constable, for a start. May not all be around next year, I know. But there's still some real prospects there for mine.

If you're going to pay some decent coin (and potentially even some trade currency) to get a seasoned player in, I'd still want us to be looking at a more bankable asset (and dependable clubman) than Crouch was ever likely to be.

On the back of Crouch nominating St. Kilda we could see Caldwell staying at the Giants. I wonder if this now means there would be less money in the cap than there was on Monday (theoretically) when GWS were certain they would be able to match.

Hopefully, this means we keep someone like Constable or Narkle.
And hopefully GFC management have spoken to these guys today assuring them that they will be the future. Constable is still contracted, so unless the club sees him having no future at Geelong he stays at least for 2021

Crouch is a good get for St Kilda. High chance that people who are glad we're missing out will look foolish, although clearly we've been outbid since we have money committed to Cameron. Which is the best outcome but Crouch would have been good for us, make no mistake. Should aim to keep one of Constable or Narkle around now.

Confirmed on the AFL website. I am not unhappy about this.

Should the Saints' contract be large enough – five years at roughly more than $700,000 – then Crouch's departure will net the Crows a pick (No.2) after their currently first-round selection.

They'll also be happy at the Craas if the Saints are mad enough to table this sort of offer for Crouch. Picks 1 and 2 would be a decent way to kick off rebuilding their list in earnest.

Well, at least until those 2020 draftees' contracts are up, that is.

Brian cook and Brad Ottens coming up today on SEN

The way the media works is that if you have had success you can whip up hysterical emotions about FA.

Crouch to Cats = pick 11 or Parfitt etc. is the absolute minimum. Have picks so they deserve to pay.

Crouch to Saints = pick 21 isn’t much different to pick 15 and we love free movement.

I'm not sure even Crouch's best is all that superior to what we could have coming through. Great accumulator, who basically only hurts you with quantity rather than quality of his possessions. And he's not getting any younger (or smarter, given his recent off-season exploits), before you even consider all the footy he's already missed so far in his career.

The idea that he's going to go anywhere and play career-best footy from this point forward is far from a fait accompli in my view. So really happy to see him head off to the Saints at this point.

And, yes, I will front up in the Fonzarelli thread down the track if he does end up burning it up at the Saints. For now, on the evidence available, I think we got this one right.

His injury history was the most concerning part to me so I agree there. But otherwise I think I see it oppositely to you: I think Crouch's current level is where the likes of Constable end up if absolutely everything goes right. So getting him would be fast-tracking one of those guy to the best case scenario for me. There's some overlap here where we could both be right.
For me Crouch is one rung below elite as far as ball-winning accumulators go and he'll excel whenever you can put good players around him. The Saints' fast footy and a gun winger like Hill (who I'm picking for a big bounceback year next season) is the perfect environment for him.

It's only because Dave Matthews came out beating his chest and said they'd likely match. So Media went into a frenzy of trade scenarios.

We would see similar stuff if Adelaide make a similar statement (which they wont as they are desperately hoping they get pick 2)

Apparently they are still into Caldwell
