So we currently have 4 spots on the senior list with Constable looking like being delisted still and clearly we want Schlensog to come back.

So probably 4 open picks at the draft and leave Close and Atkins on the rookie list. We have 5 picks inside 50. I wonder if we try and do a 2 for 1 deal to move up the draft or would prefer to trade out a pick and load up for next year considering we won't be getting a top 20 pick this year either way.

6 senior list spots currently.
A bit depends on whether schlensog is happy to go through the draft and have us take him as a rookie again or whether he insists we give him a senior list spot (depends what other clubs offer him).
Sounds like stengle will go senior list.
My guess is stengle and one other DFA in, constable out and one elevated rookie.
4 ND picks we will either trade 5 picks into 4 in an upgrade or trade p50 out for a future.
Would give us 3 rookie slots plus a cat b slot in that scenario.

I'd delist Dalhaus and Higgins and re rookie them and have all our picks in the national draft

I dont think that will happen due to salary cap payout reasons.

I like the idea of getting someone like Greg Clark in, especially if we could do it via the rookie draft. I don't think it'd be an ideal use of one of our earlier picks but he fills a gap we have in our midfield age wise and could give some other players time to develop, assuming he could come in and get a game immediately.

I do agree we have a gap in the 24-28 age group so id look at him.

Seems like the club is keeping a lot of options open, with plenty of decisions to be made on draft night.

Constable’s spot, plus DFA signings will probably be left until after the draft.

If we have the same result next year as we did this year our picks in next draft are currently 15,33, 42, 51 and 59

That’s worse case scenario depends how you look at it and could be better not bad!

People will hate me for it but I still see merit in floating Guthrie brothers and Blitz to GC at the end of next to assist in building a steady culture! Blitz could play for 5 more years at fullback!

Probably a year too early to look at him. We’d still have all our existing mids on the list. And then also need to give games to Stephens and Holmes. Is he going to displace anyone? End of next year would have been ideal.

I can see us offering Collingwood picks 34 & 50 for pick 27.
A marginal increase for the pies in terms of points and helps us move up the draft board and off load a pick we are unlikely to use.

Can see us heading into the draft with Stengle and Schlensog added as DFA and 4 picks (22, 27, 30, 32) plus 2 rookie picks.
If we delist Constable we can use our pick 91 which realistically will come in somewhere in the late 50’s early 60’s.

We can offer whatever we like but I not sure another team is going to help us out for marginal benefit.

I really rate clark..honestly id have him in the side for sure. I think theres a way to make the pieces fit and i think whoever picks him up will do well.

I see it the other way. CC has to be delisted before the draft (list lodgement date) and if we leave stengle til end november he will probably sign witj another club instead. So we will sign him etc ad soon as the dfa window opens, delist CC now but what wr will leave until draft night is the rookoe elevations..if we dont like whats left at the back end of the draft trade picks out on the night (to futures) and elevate 2 rookies..if we like whats there use those slots and leave atkins and close as rookies. We might also relist CC in the rookie draft if nothing we like is available by then.

It depends, tbh. We've got Scooter at the Pies as a development coach, and we started our trade relationship with the new admin quite well, with a no frills trade approach to getting Kreuger over to them - so it's indeed possible that they would consider helping us if we came calling and it helped them a little too.

With that said, still think it's more likely that we go for the Dogs 23, as Pies have enough points as it is, while Dogs are on the precipice and will be more likely to consider it. Either is still an option though, and I'm not against it if it enables us to somehow get both Knevitt and Brown

Given Wells has said we're targeting MIDs in the draft, I really like the sound of this bloke. Can't see him in any phantoms or draft rankings, so I'm guessing he'll be available at our picks.

Oh great, another WA player that will be asked to be traded back home.

This kid looks so excited for his first day of school

Will be interesting to see if he actually manages to put some weight on. He won't have a long career if he doesn't, cause he'll have his upper body smashed up again.

I think it’s beneficial for both teams.
The pies have kicked the can down the road to get Daicos and outside of him have very little in this years draft. Giving them another pick albeit in the 50’s would improve their hand.
next year they have a 1st rd, 2x3rd rd, 5th rd. Not that strong.

Pies and dogs will only trade picks if they can still cover bids and get extra assets into next year. They already have enough points for this year.
Yep, or if adding an extra pick when the bid is made is guaranteed to move them up the order a bit at the back end of the draft. Unless someone makes an exceptional offer they won't be doing any trading before draft night I don't imagine. But we could have a deal in principle drawn up to go through if e.g. Daicos makes it to pick 3 or whatever.

I reckon get him in. Play the youngsters and have Clark ready for the following season, unless he does a Kelly and demands selection with his form.

I forgot the list lodgement date was 31 Oct. My concern is if we only have four senior list spots and if we're trying to consolidate picks or trade into next year's draft, surely other clubs will realise they have some leverage there, i.e. that fifth pick is worthless to us.

Now that the dogs got an extra 378 points from the Lipinski trade, I can't see them giving up p23 so easily. We might be able to get p27 from Collingwood, but it would have to be enticing, because they could easily just not bother with Dib.

I'm actually heavily on board with getting Greg Clark, if it was possible. Eagles are keen, and we could take him before them (again). If he wants to go home in 2 years (doubtful), they'll have to pay a premium, haha.

But seriously, I reckon this would be a hell of a draft period:

Delist Constable

Trade picks 30, 50 and Carlton Future 3rd to Dogs for Pick 23 and a Future 4th

Pick 22: Tom Brown
Pick 23: Mitch Knevitt
Pick 32: Toby Conway/Zac Taylor
Pick 34: Greg Clark
Rookie Pick: Blake Schlensog (if he agrees to it)
Rookie Pick: Jackson McLachlin
Rookie Pick: Jarrod Brander (if he agrees to it) OR - Re-Rookie: Charlie Constable
DFA: Tyson Stengle
Rookie upgrade: Close (more likely to be poached as young and talented)
Rookie maintain (Atkins - with an agreement to be upgraded next year)

Thoughts peeps?
