My pov is probably irrelevant... we have not brought in Cameron, Higgins and the Haw to just take our punishment and slip back for a year or two...

Merritt as a FA would have obvious appeal.

with trade.. not sure. We liked Flanders One could not have asked for more than Rowell.. and look how unlucky they have been. One needs some luck

probably would be happy just to add more thru the draft..it will be deepish... we have three picks in the 20's atm ... maybe we can move up.

Yeah that's a fair point re: Trade/FA, didn't think about actually having to trade for Dunks, haha. Probably scrap that then, and just focus on Merrett if we can, but like you said, go to the draft with our 3 mid 20's picks/Future 1st if we want to to use it to move up, and go from there

trade cost yeah... that is a killer. Paying anything for Cameron was annoying... but I have to wonder..if we keep having such a mature ready to win side..it makes it very hard to get a game

The names I most excited about on our list are the ones we have drafted... Holmes, SDK, CooperS etc. so my preference is not to fill up to many spots, trust the drafted kids..find out one way or the other. Maybe Constable fails..fine..maybe he doesn't. Simpsons was gone..till last year....

and have to wonder if that game against Bris..is a sign of what is coming. maybe MOC has reached the spot where they want him around the ball more. I posted earlier in the year I thought Holmes was a chance to get a game at some stage.. I could see him in the MOC wake.

I like your insights.... however, for most who you mention,I would probably want to know the cost. I may look at others due to cost and them being rated higher than I value them. What do you see as you predicted cost to move the players you have mentioned.

The player I probably like the most out of those mentioned is ash... I doubt we can move him and the cost would be significant and it probably not the area on the ground id like to be paying a fortune for.

Looking at your list of gone players... some pain is coming.. unless we strike a lucky find somewhere.

Selwood champion / 2e, Henderson serviceable journeyman/ Narle another young kid that probably goes elsehwere, JJ really not a factor in list planing... The most significant and difficult player to cover is Selwood... when he and hawkins go... thats really an end of the thompson era.. , both rated top5 picks.. both have given near 300 games of service. ... unles were can get someone like McDonald from Swans and perhaps Phillips form North.. we are replacing them with imitation vanilla essence.

Good question TC.
Mckay would be my Number 1 target.
One has to consider what Carlton have left in the kitty. Cripps & Walsh will impact the cost.
If a 28yo Cameron was worth $900k pa x 5 plus 2 number 1 (yes yes it looks like 3 but it was really 2) getting a 23yo Mckay will cost about $800k x 5 if we are lucky, more $900k i would say to avoid a matching of contracts. If they match then we are talking 2 First Rounders. But the quest will be to offer more than they can match. McKay is our TommaHawk replacement that is about to hit his prime years.
I'd even get real creative and offer Ben McKay a contract to make the opportunity to play at Kardinia Park even more enticing.
Number 2 target would be Adam Cerra.
For me... and i stress for me... i would straight swap Jordan Clark. Without a second thought TBH.
Number 3 would be Jarrod Brander.
Blokes can pot him as much as they like but he'd be a great HB or 3rd tall defender IMO.
And he'll come cheap... around a 3rd rounder especially since he'll be OOC.
As for Ash. I'll bet my left nut that he ends up in the hoops whether it before or after he becomes a free agent. earlier especially if the next Players EBA allows free agency a year earlier without restrictions.
Well thats my two bobs worth.
Be interesting where those 2 second round picks(GWS-ESS) fall this year, here's hoping they are 21 and 22. More likely to be 23-24 but still a good result.
Cheers TC

Have you watched any games this year? We are getting smashed for pace around the centre of the ground, Essendon and Adelaide pulled our pants down, and Brisbane clearly outplayed us in the second half.

The players Eba won't get signifantly altered, it's already the most in favour deal in the world for players, maybe 5 years restricted and 7 years unrestricted, but that's the last thing we should Be worried about, we should be investing in the draft or we could end up like hawthorn, as our list is not balanced, you need a blend of youth pushing through, our side is predominantly over 28 that we pick each week and we are in for a fight to play finals this year

we are missing a lot in the middle atm...

Duncan & danger? Both over 30, with danger probably going to split 50/50 fwd and mid, who else?
Duncan, Dangerfield, Menegola & Simpson will all get a run through the midfield when they're playing seniors

The latest list of NGA eligible players has been released:

GEELONG
Wandharringa Winunguj
Keam Chan
Alistair O'Donnell
Braiden Leong
Billy Collins

Hope the kid first on that list makes it, just to hear how many different ways BT and co. can stuff up pronouncing his name.

Kinda like after we drafted Ranga Ediriwickrama and wanted to see how the commentators would go

What causes your doubt?

cynicism..

I said the same for Blitz and was totally wrong ..but a lot of kids, very good players never make it to a list, let alone get it to best22

If there is some data that says he athletically the match of Holmes for eg... then maybe he has more chance than I give him.

It seem most of the academy players that make it..would have made it anyway. Does anyone thing Jammar UH ..would not have been drafted

Jacob Hopper. Be interesting see if he names gets mentioned to us again...

Would rather Taranto, if I'm being honest. But he's never been linked to us in the past. XOH another one that's just bubbling away not being chosen - who could be a great pickup (was really keen on him in his draft year)

Yes. No different to previous years give or take a kph or two.
We are 1-1 and all of a sudden because we aren't playing like we did last September people are losing their heads. Go Figure??
No Danger No Duncan No Menegola No Simpson & No Cameron and we still beat Brisbane.
Don't people get it... What a win that was?? Nah i dont think some do.
If you think our lack of pace is our problem.
Then you don't understand the concept that ball movement will always beat speed/pace.
Be it by foot or by hand.
Skills and decision making will kill pace all day everyday. You can be the fastest player running around but without those two attributes u are just a pest and a hinderance to the opposition for all but a few spurts during a game.
So let's just take a deep breath and wait until our fitness is up and a few of our players are back & fit then we'll make a more realistic assessment.
As for the EBA don't be so sure. The AFLPA want to align themselves more so with the NFL and NBA agreements.
Free Agents are and will more so be the future priority of list management where the Draft will be more of a long term process.
Yes the draft will still have a place in the game. But Free Agency is the AFLPA No. 1 priority. As it was/is in all sporting codes across the globe.
If i were a betting man i'd say 5 years will be it, after that move on to where ever you like.
Any way thats my take. Different to yours.
But as i always say, opinions are like arseholes. We all have them.
Cheers & GO CATTERS!
