Dons hit with a few key injuries ...as bad as Norf are it’ll be a cripple fight between themNo one taking the spoon off norf
Still can’t see even a half full strength Essendon beating norf by less than 4 goalsDons hit with a few key injuries ...as bad as Norf are it’ll be a cripple fight between them
Havent seen anything to suggest hes actually any good, Adelaide went and got Nick Murray which says it all regarding how they rate him.

What would the puck start to look like for a bottom two finish ?
It would fall at pick 20/21 maybe end up at 24-25 by the time compo picks for FAs etc are handed out.
About now i bet Todd Goldstien would be thinking i wish i went to the Cats. And so do we
Well I hope Stanley gets the memo about running ...maybe it’ll click with him this yearStanley been much much better than Goldy in his first games, so I'm not really fussed tbh. Ruck is dead this year, with the new rules. Someone like Stanley is actually perfect for them, as has been shown in two very solid hit outs in 2021

Dacios and a couple of FA's so at least two spots, maybe four.
This is probable but not necessarily true. These picks could be matched with a pick or picks before us. Especially if someone goes top 5. My gut feeling is that it’s gonna be hard to trade back for points because I’m expecting depth to be excellent with not a huge difference between 15-25.
With Selwood finishing up, with Hendo, JJ, Narkle & maybe Tuohy following him out the door.
Plenty of spots to fill.
Just a couple of Free Agents or should i say OOC players out there i would be instructing Lloydy to contact their managers.
No. 1 for me if we want a gun midfielder that would cost Selwood kinda money to pry him out would be Shai Bolton.
He is a GUN. Speed skills and X factor in spades.
But if i was abetting man... he stays in Tigerland. Pity would love him in the hoops.
No. 2 would be Harry Mckay.
Again... will take plenty of coin to pry him out. But back end it using Tommahawks cash and we have ourselves a top CHF-FF for 7 years.
Can Carlton match a BIG offer?? probably NOT. A 4 x $700k anyone??
No. 3 i'd be asking what price for Adam Cerra. Yes OOC but will take a Clark kinda trade to acquire this mid. Like for like??
No. 4 would be throwing a few darts at the board and look at getting Fraser McAsey, Jarrod Brander and even Lachie Ash (diehard Cats fan)
Brander would be the easiest to get IMO. Could fill a void in our backline with Hendo going and Blitz turning 30 in 2022.
Fraser McAsey is an interesting one. I see potentially a great CHB in the making here.
Ash for me is a GEM. Still a year or two away from hitting his straps. But will be a beauty running off HB.
All the blokes i've mentioned are around the 22-24 yo bracket.
Thoughts Boys?? Pros Cons Options??
Update: GWS didn't look so hot tonight. Currently sits at pick 21 and 22.What would the puck start to look like for a bottom two finish ?

In fact I threw it into the points calculator and although it's kind of meaningless it suggested that as of current ladder, and assuming the two drafts are equally valuable, the trade retrospectively valued Cameron at pick 13. Again, way to early and meaningless anyway, but also a general indication that we may be taking some decent draft capital into the next draft.
Great suggestions. Myself, I think merritt would be closer to a selwood replacement. But I accept he would be very difficult to prise out of Essendon. A Hawkins replacement must be high on the list. What would be handy is SDK brother from blues to move across.Ah, these are always fun! Just my random and probably uninformed thoughts...
Bolton: yes please x 100... but we won't get him off the Tigers
McKay: will he be happy to play VFL for a year or two until Hawk retires, because we're not playing all 3 of Hawkins, Cameron, and McKay (and haven't even mentioned Rat)
McAsey: the guy who can't get a jumper for the wooden spooners? Sure, he might have motivational problems but that's a HUGE red flag for mine.
Cerra: yeah, would love to him but if it's Clark for Cerra, does it really improve the team much? I think Clark still has huge up-side that's still a year or two away, and he's one of the few back-line players that are pro-active AND have the tools to make it happen.
Brander: another who can't crack the senior team with any regularity, but the Eagles are pretty settled for now so that's not necessarily a huge problem. That said, I'd be wary - just doesn't have enough exposed form and if he ends up like another Kolo, that'd be a waste of time.
Ash: yep, would be great to have him and Clark on the HB / wing. Cameron might only be the first of our Giants plundering over the next few years, as I imagine Bruhn will be on our radar as well.
Time Kelly himself came a pick we got in the Ablett trade, which we made pretty much entirely off the compo pick for Motlop. It's funny you mention this, as I was actually thinking about the entire sequence of events that led us to get Jeremy Cameron, and it's gonna be pretty f*cking spectacular if both Essendon AND the Giants finish Bottom 6 or even Bottom 4.
Feel there is a fair chance, with Bruhn and Henry likely not being first choice for at least the next 12 months, while both respective coaches in Buckley and Cameron, try to save their jobs. This bodes very well for us, as we could get them back for less than they were drafted for, at the end of 2022.
Anyway, back to our Cameron, and here's how things have panned out thus far/could pan out (once we look at the overall sequence of events since we drafted TK in 2017), if things continue in this fashion:
- We draft Tim Kelly with Pick 24 in 2017
- We trade Tim Kelly to WC in 2019, for Picks 14, 24, 37 and a Future 1st (ends up as Pick 18 in 2020 draft)
- We draft Cooper Stephens with 2019 Pick 14 (16) from the Eagles
- We trade Pick 24 (Pick 27) to GC for 2020 Pick 11 (ends up being Pick 15 in 2020 draft)
- We trade 13 (15), 15 (18) and our own 20 (25), and get Cameron and as it currently stands, Picks 21 and 22 back (likely to be something more like 22 and 24 at year's end, IMO)
We end up with a 6 pick downgrade of our original Pick 15 (ends up being 18) to Pick 24ish. Essentially it means that the Eagles Future 1st becomes a Future 2nd and drifts to Pick 24ish.
****Note: The 11th hour trade of Pick 20 (Pick 25) for Essendon's Future 2nd (Pick 22ish), is our own pick, so is not part of the Kelly haul and can be treated as a separate trade.*****
So in totality, we end up with Jeremy Cameron, Cooper Stephens and 2021 Pick 24ish, for 2017 Pick 24.
Now THAT is seeing the forest for the trees!
Time Kelly himself came a pick we got in the Ablett trade, which we made pretty much entirely off the compo pick for Motlop.
So um, thanks Steve. Out the door for pick 19 and we have a pick still remaining from him leaving which is only a handful of positions back from that.

I like your insights.... however, for most who you mention,I would probably want to know the cost. I may look at others due to cost and them being rated higher than I value them. What do you see as you predicted cost to move the players you have mentioned.
The player I probably like the most out of those mentioned is ash... I doubt we can move him and the cost would be significant and it probably not the area on the ground id like to be paying a fortune for.
Looking at your list of gone players... some pain is coming.. unless we strike a lucky find somewhere.
Selwood champion / 2e, Henderson serviceable journeyman/ Narle another young kid that probably goes elsehwere, JJ really not a factor in list planing... The most significant and difficult player to cover is Selwood... when he and hawkins go... thats really an end of the thompson era.. , both rated top5 picks.. both have given near 300 games of service. ... unles were can get someone like McDonald from Swans and perhaps Phillips form North.. we are replacing them with imitation vanilla essence.
Actually if you want to get to root of it we got Motlop from a pick we took in trade for Prismall. So it's fair to say that pick 21 is what we currently have left from him going to Essendon.I was gonna include that too, haha, but I didn't want to make it any more complicated than it already was.
Essentially 3 years of Ablett, 2 years of Tim Kelly, then Jeremy Cameron, Cooper Stephens and 2021 Pick 24ish...for Steven 'I only play well in a contract year' Motlop![]()
One from left of center, but, if we were unsuccessful with Merrett, is Dunkley worth a look? Would be interesting to see what his intentions are this off-season, but if he's keen to look around, I would think he'd be a fantastic Selwood replacement.
Definitely, but I still think he'd be worth 600K a year to come here, over say 4-5 years - as he's an absolute gun and could be a very good replacement for Sel (would much rather Merrett, but could be someone else who's worth a look)He is unlucky ..he may never get an offer like he did from Ess ever again.
