We'll likely never pay him $850k in a single season. He will come here on an extended deal with that money plus say 2 extra years at a significantly reduced salary spread (or back ended) over 4 years. How do we possibly have the cap to do this? Stengle dekonning close atkins are all due much bigger coin going foward.
geelong has always priortised minimising payments over draft picks.
doesnt sound right to reverse this approach and pay bowes 850 thousand in the reserves just to get pick 7.
So you think Bowes on 850k is worth something? So what would he be worth on $850k per year? Pretty much nothing. Maybe pick 80? A token gesture at best.
Not sure he has shown signs of being a dud like your Hoskin- Elliot. Surely he is a better prospect than him!

I haven’t missed that, but yes it’s relevant. The missing link is here.
He is not worth nothing on $850k, it's worse than that - he is actually detrimental to their list management strategy and they have to get rid of him in order to take on other players. They cannot even give him away for free because other clubs do not want to put themselves in the same bind.
Not many clubs have a spare $850k laying around, nor the certainty that they can open up space in 2 years time with a bunch of retirements looming like we do.
GC see him as dead cap being spent on a VFL player. We see him as a possible reclamation project that comes with an almighty sweetener.
If he chooses us, they are over a barrel.
No I said nothing (or close to it) didn’t I? Maybe slightly negative value. Nothing close to pick 7 though. That’s way overrating the value of cap space. So you think Bowes on 850k is worth something?
It's like selling someone a $50 note for 2x $50 notes.
He is worth less than nothing on his own and for 2 years on 850k.
My calculations add up to about a minus pick 7 negative value.
This isn't going to be a fair deal for them. They are in a bind and only have so many ways out. That is the only reason we are getting involved.I haven’t missed that, but yes it’s relevant.
But nobody can say with a straight face that the cost of taking on that salary is pick 7. That’s absurd. It’s something between pick 7 and zero and we can argue about the detail. I’m guessing GC will push for something close to 7. You might say it’s less than that but it won’t be far off.
I think that remains to be seen. I don’t think they are in salary cap “trouble” so to speak. They want to create space because they’re no good now but have players who will need a pay day in future. This isn't going to be a fair deal for them. They are in a bind and only have so many ways out. That is the only reason we are getting involved.
Bowes (a guy playing VFL at the Gold Coast) on 850k for 2 years is maybe a slightly negative value? No I said nothing (or close to it) didn’t I? Maybe slightly negative value. Nothing close to pick 7 though. That’s way overrating the value of cap space.
I'd also suggest that having a player like Cameron along side him in the forward line will help to extend his career as he's no longer playing something of a lone handHawk could play forever. Doesn't rely on speed, his kicking is good and he's still monstering defenders and rucks in contests.
As long as we have mids good enough to get it to him he looks ageless.
salary cap is a fixed resource. Any gap you have now can be used to front load contracts giving you extra space in the future.Disagree. Salary cap is a malleable commodity. We can eat Bowes’ salary by pushing other salaries back to 2025-26.
This isn’t Jordan Murdoch we are talking about. He can actually play.Bowes (a guy playing VFL at the Gold Coast) on 850k for 2 years is maybe a slightly negative value?
You pulling our legs here?
That’s pretty much what I said.salary cap is a fixed resource. Any gap you have now can be used to front load contracts giving you extra space in the future.
Might wanna tell the GC that... He is playing in their magoos & they could handle some more decent players. This isn’t Jordan Murdoch we are talking about. He can actually play.
Then why wasn’t he playing…..This isn’t Jordan Murdoch we are talking about. He can actually play.
Late round 3 or 4 you would thinkWhat’s Esava worth in a trade?
Late round 3 or 4 you would think
Bugger all sadly. Played the year in the VFL. Pick 50?What’s Esava worth in a trade?
His contract status might bump it up abit but I doubt the club will stand in the way of him getting to another clubPick 54 is probably as much as we can expect.
