Id be a little hesitant to drink the Ollie Lord bath water, had one good game but 23 goals in 35 SANFL games is pretty poor reading.
The SANFL is an absolute graveyard for KPF's especially guys developing, Port's reserves are also a wildly unbalanced side it's hard to read until they get a crack at AFL level tbh.

I like Ollie's hunger for the contest, some rough edges for sure & yea it's early days.

I also like that he isn't going to die wondering and I like him as a work in progress but he has a wildly long way to go. Sav showed just as much at the same age and both showed less than John Butcher.

I think people's idea of value is anchored to numbers in the draft, but I think this years trading just shows draft picks this year aren't worth anywhere near as much as other drafts.

Can we use next years 2nd? Sav and our 2nd for 24 and Lord? No way Sav is worth 24 and Lord, I would’ve grabbed 24 and ran to the hills personally.

I think it’s 24 or Lord.

Realistically Lord was heading for delist territory six months ago and only his breakout QF has people interested in him.

I’d be happy to take him as he obviously addresses a huge need for us post-Hawkins but he’s far from a guaranteed 150+ gamer IMO.

Port poster - “Targeting Lord is just revenge for Esava.”
Wait they aren't serious right....? They realise the connection right? The kid has Geelong royalty in his blood.

He'd be a third gen player in the hoops. Got nothing to do with Port, couldn't care less about them

I reckon both players are of similar value. Neither are stars and unlikely to be. I’d probably still prefer the pick 24 to take Hastie but if Lord is the trade then you’d live with that.

That's just nonsense, his 1962 season was absolutely dominant; the only problem with his votes tally was that it should have been higher, because of the 9 times he got 2 votes, at least some should have been 3s.

Have you never heard these stories before? They didn’t just come from me yesterday, although I was fortunate enough to see them both playing together

I don't think they let him go after that final, they have Dixon who is battered and on his last legs, Todd Marshall who was a deer in headlights late in the year/finals and I thought "hey, maybe he comes good he is only 21" but turns out Marshall just hit 25.

Finlayson and Marshall carried their KPF goalkicking this year and Finlayson got dropped in finals, Marshall kicked 2 goals in each final but was very underwhelming in both their losses, Dixon contributed with 20 odd goals in 14 games but the style he plays there is no guarantee you get more then 15 games out of him next year.

I think they would be very keen on keeping Lord and pumping more games into him next season.

As for Sydney, can't believe how cheap they have gotten Grundy.
Adams and Grundy put Swans top 6 contending top 4 with those two additions assuming they both stay fit. I would have said lock for top 4 but that depends just on how badly Mills has genked himself.
If Mills has a 6 month turnaround, which it could be, he still plays most of next season.

Our VFL team has become a graveyard for forwards as well. Not saying we have any talent anyway but f me the ball movement is terrible, Hawkins would struggle.

Yeah gun to my head I'd take pick 24 and see if we could get George Stevens or similar there if it's an either/or.

I think we probably start by asking for both

If Port have no injury list Lord will be back where he belongs - running around the SANFL averaging .5 goals a game.

Just take 24 and be done with it.
In fairness I believe he spent time as a defender there so that affects his average. Previous years he was like 0.8 so I'd expect he's more your goal a game average there now.

It baffles me how we come off our worst season in recent memory and sit on our hands and do nothing in the trade period yet when we are contending we literally look at everyone, do these blokes realise we missed finals this year!!!
It’s also possible… and not saying this is the case… but less can be more.
By that I mean… sending future picks or 7 for Dylan Stephens, Zac Fischer and a fr 3 wound certainly tick the box is being active in the trade period… but does it really make us better?

Sometimes when the options aren’t ground breaking… it’s ok to sit on your hands

Now.. with Bruhn. OH, Bowes and pick 7 (Clark) sitting in the availability table.. I’d be annoyed sitting on our hands.
Currently I’m more than fine with it as I just don’t see the value of need fillers available to us - sans maybe Grundy but he wanted cash and that contract is a nightmare IMO.

Go Catters

He may also just be about to break out as many young KPF’s do take time. I think whether it’s him we gain or pick 24 we’ve done well.
Exactly, no one was mad at us for being offered Pick 24...it's because mackie turned it down that people have lost their marbles.

His SANFL numbers aren't great, but 15 goals in 13 games at AFL level as a 21 year old key forward isn't a bad return. I've also been told he has a great attitude, very coachable and strong competitive side.

Very much so. Neale to my eye anyway looked much more dangerous in the late AFL game he played than he did in the VFL this year.

Neale even won the ball overhead.

In the VFL games he took most of his marks on the lead. AFL brings the ball in to the forward much more quickly and a lot more to the advantage of the forward.

When we get more value than that, you and all the people claiming we'd take 37 or Port's F2 can confess that it's a good thing you all aint making the deals.
