As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

It looks like your a fan of Bailey as well cats 09

I like what I saw when I’ve been able to watch the VFL this season, and he does look comfortable in defence - we could do worse in terms of a back-up KPD than going with a player like Bailey for a late ND option or rookie pick if we have a spot open

I also like what is says about our club that Bailey isn’t the first VDH to play in the hoops with sister Sophie (previously drafted to our AFLW team for those unfamiliar) before she then took up the option to play with Essendon when they joined the comp - apparently the team she followed since childhood. Just thinking that unless the siblings don’t get along & never talk to each other, that it’s likely Bailey would have had a chat with Sophie before deciding to make the move down the highway and you can only gather it would have been fairly positive even with Sophie having decided to move on - I somewhat think that if she said it wasn’t an enjoyable experience that Bailey doesn’t necessarily make the move

And who would that player be 🤔🤔🤔

Sweet
Hayes
Reidy
Strachan
Flynn/Preuss

Id like ned moyle but he would cost too much.
Flynn is probably the best of the rest or a DFA type like sweet.

I would disagree on this. There are plenty of josh kennedy (swans) types that go from fringe at one club to a gun at another. The key is to pick ones who are stuck behind elite players and who come from great systems (ie fringe players at bottom 4 clubs are rarely good gets but ones from top 4 clubs are).
Kennedy was getting picked at Hawthorn, he played their last ten games in a row that year.

1 of bugger questions is what's going to happen with our ruck situation 🤔.

Obviously we will have Stanley on our list next year ✅

Ceglar will retire so we will need another ruck back up. 👋

Conway, there is a huge question mark on him , regarding his body can hold up, there is potential there, but we can't think and hold him that he will be the future for us..❔

So are we going to target a Flynn or Sweet or Hayes or Grundy? I hope we don't go for Lycett. But I haven't seen us linked to any rucks drom other clubs in the media besides Darcy which was meant to be fake.

Or do we get a mature ruckman from a state league that can be serviceable and do a job?

Or will we get a Kid from the draft?
After this week I'd target Shannon Neale

Gonna go out in a different direction in saying that Cowboy Neale will be our second ruck behind Toby Conway with Stanley as our 3rd stringer going into 2024. Foster our 4th option.
I am one of a few that think he’d be a great ruckman. As he was as a junior. He was too quick and agile for traditional rucks in the juniors.
We are as thin as a Masai Warrior in big men.
List management issues leads me to think that Esava will be a priority.
There are no key forwards or defenders out there. I yes a don’t rate McKay one iota.
On the Worpel scenario. I nearly choked on my cheezels when some speculated he was worth a late first early second pick… lol. Please don’t do that to me fellas.
I might be in the minority. On those on our list currentl.
I have plenty of faith in Knevitt, Dempsey and Willis stepping up next season. Even Clark having an impact be it a little one.
Phoenix Foster needs a clear run at it. Injuries have hobbled him from the get go.
Fitness and strength will come and when it does. He’ll be a ripper.
Hopefully pick 6-9 yields something special.
I’m interested in what we do with Parfitt Tuohy Menegola and in particular Hawkins.
If Hawk plays he hinders the development on any youngster.
Damned if u do damned if u don’t scenario.
The other 3 are not going to part of any success going forward.
Just on another note.
George Stevens acquitted himself well today.

If we're looking at fringe mids they are gettable Paddy Dow would be the best out there I think. Only 23, can play decent footy, still lots of physical development and likely to get squeezed out once Cerra, Walsh, etc are back.

I wouldn’t take any of them, I’d back our u18 scouts.

We can do both.
For example still draft u18s at the top end but strategically trade other picks for 20-22year olds that will be 10 year players-henry and bruhn show the value of this.

Kennedy was getting picked at Hawthorn, he played their last ten games in a row that year.

He only did due to injuries. Otherwise he was not best 22 and didnt have a path to be because of their strength of inside mids. This is why you get value bringing in good mids who have blocked paths at top 4 sides.

Do you want to bet a first on that continuing here? If Clark or Bruhn come on as hoped then is he just going to turn into a dud then?
That’s a different question and a risk I wouldn’t want to take.
Maybe he’d make the other 2 even better?
Half glass full guy here

He will i think hes not best 22 when cripps hewett cerra acres walsh kennedy etc are all fit. He has his flaws but he is improving this year and his tank seems to be a bit better. You could probably get him for a pick in the 50s which is good value
