As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

His value has gone up since last year, but the issue for year again for Port will be their lack of trade currency - they may have to get creative to get something done

The issue with port is they dont have any decent picks to trade and no realistic player trade options besides bergman (who will probably go to metro melb not geelong).

One would think that even if he chooses another club they have to get something juicy.

Id agree he probably picks a metro club ..but which one. He is from the area StK want to create a go home like we have .. does he pick saints? P13 ish ?

If he wanted someone like Carlton ... a three way trade could see us adding to Sav to bring in TDek


The best outcome imo..would be he did pick us and we add to Sav and get Bergman... but I agree. Id say we would not be his first choice.

I'm unsure what the club truly thinks about Sav as far as being long-term best 22.

If they are not 100% convinced he is the answer, getting TDK for close to whatever we get for Sav would be ok in my eyes.

There's no doubt we need a young ready to go ruck and TDK would fit nicely with Conway for a long time.

I'll live losing Sav if it just about nets us TDK... and I'm not saying Tom is worth more than Sav, I'm thinking we just definitely need a player like him and Sav is still speculative (but building ok).

But what is more likely is The saints pick (28-30) and their own (34)... which could be easily turned into a pick in the early 20's if they have a go.
Seriously they'd need to get a pick in the early 20's for what he's shown so far.
And if Sav plays the next 10 games and 4 finals with a medal around his neck along with a Top 10 finish in our B&F we'll just take that Saints pick 11.

Replacing Ratugolea with TDK is going backwards.
Keeping Ratugolea to man the CHB post for the next 6 years and adding TDK is going forward as TDK can at least play second fiddle to Toby Conway.

We wont get that because he is ooc. A pick in the 20s or equivalent player (eg if it helps us get tdk etc) is our best case scenario. Its better for us if he stays.

So how do Port think he'll walk into the gates at Alberton?
There is always a price to pay. As we all know.
Some say Pick 34... some might say Saints pick 28. Some might come up with something else.
But at the end of the day, for him to drop down to pick 16-17 for them to access his talents seems far fetched. Some might say as far fetched as my scenario.
So we'll sit back at let it all pan out.
But thinking he'll just walk out the door for a can of coke and pack of crisps (Pick 36) is crazy.

We have enough leverage... as Port is 17th in the pecking order.

Anyone else notice that we have an elephant in the room that will be a big story towards the end of the season?
Esava Ratugolea is that elephant.
Cost pre season was about $220k per. Or a pick in the 30's-40's??.
Cost mid season is about $$350-400k per.
Cost at years end with the same trajectory will be $450-500k per.
If clubs are willing to pay TDK or HH close to a million per.
Then Esava will get $500k per without much problem if he is our CHB come finals from half a dozen clubs in the league.
24yo 6'6" blokes with speed agility and ability to lockdown a defensive post don't grow on trees.
How much are we willing to pay for this tree??
If we add another $200k to his contract. Does that put a line through a free agent or two??
Interesting times ahead.

The elephant in the room is we can’t play DK, J Henry, Ratugolea and Kolo. One of them will miss out and it ain’t the first two.

Kolo has also never been dropped as far as I can remember
