If he wanted to pick at us ...picking 30 was probably good divider.

Its not like we have had a heap of early R1...most would be in the teens ..which meant our r2 was past 30.

30 seems a bit arbitory... I cant see the difference between 28 and 32 for example.

I get early picks ..single figure picks ..as they generally belong to the highest grade of potential kids... and we just have not had that many of them to draft. Bar GC deal.. we would not have Clark on our list. So to exclude guys like Bruhn seems agenda setting more than being insightful.

It's just a weird argument. We won the flag in 2022, and I don't think Collingwood had many top 30 selections in their premiership side this year, instead they had a lot of trade-ins and free agents.

Going by Macks interview on Trade Radio after the close of trade week i can see us drafting Sanders with Pick 8 or it will be traded to North or West Coast for multiple back end 1sts or 1st this year and a future 1st

If we turn Pick 8 into either one of WCE or North Future 1st we could be looking at a top 5 pick next year
There's no way WCE or North would trade their F1 when it could well be pick 1.

There was an interesting comment when mentioned about Adelaide specifically in that interview
Now they have 10 + 14 and 20

Would we do 10 + 14
For 8 and 25?

Depending on how desperate they’re for a certain player
I wouldn’t even be surprised to see us 8 for 10-20 tbh

what about 8+F2 -> 10+ F1

Adelaide will need to trade it out anyway they have Welsh as F/S who will prob go top 5 next year

Tommy Morris of SEN radio has ranked us 17th best for the free agency/ trade period …..

He based that on us not bringing anyone in though.

He ranked Essendon 2nd and when his cohost said they only brought in B grade players Morris defended it by saying that nothing better was available.

If B grade was the best that was available then I’m glad we didn’t bring anyone in.

I think 8,2024r2 for 10,14 is better.
Then maybe trade 10 for 15,17 with North.
End up with 14,15,17.

People loved it when St Kilda got in Hill, Higgins, Butler, Dougal Howard and Ryder all in one trade period.

Personally I was just about the only person saying that it would get them nowhere.

They were trying to ice the cake but they didn't actually have a cake ready to ice (Dons are similar).

Not surprisingly I was proven correct and guys like King that was drooling over them winning the trade period now purposely forgets what he said and says it didn't work for them.

I have no issue with what we did this period... There really wasn't anything available to get.

Parish as a FA would have been nice but after seeing the Dons bring in a million free agents, they were never letting Parish go without matching (Parish didn't wanna leave anyway).

We asked about a contracted Smith and it wasn't an open.

McKay as a FA might turn out to be ok... but he might just get injured as per usual lots.

If we draft a star then who cares about the spuds like Dow & Coffield and the junkies like Hollands didn't go for or get.

As I have said in a lot of these situations, I think It really just depends on the player/s we want.

We might actually want to take Darcy Wilson or say Caddy with our first pick (assuming Sanders/O'Sullivan are gone by then).

If that was the case and we have done our research we may be able to trade back to 10 and still get Wilson + upgrade our next selection.

I can also work the other way.

Only Wells knows the guys he wants so we will just have to trust that he is trading for the players he wants and not just certain numbers when the draft comes around.

Wells would be starting to get a real gauge on what number picks correlate with what players now... Fingers crossed he picks wisely.

Parish made it into Mofra's Bottom 50 for this year

Actually, I'm going to take this one step further, since 2016, our drafting has landed us all these players who have played at least 5 AFL games (here or at another club):

Parfitt
T. Stewart
Ratugolea
J. Henry
Z. Guthrie
O'Connor
L. Fogarty
T. Kelly
Miers
J. Clark
T. Atkins
SDK
Close
Holmes
S. Neale
Conway
Knevitt
Dempsey
Mullin

+

Decent prospects -

Jhye Clark
Willis
Clohesy
Pick 8 this year
Pick 25 this year

**************

Is it perfect? No. Is it catastrophic and 'cliff worthy'? Also no.

Not to mention, that having 5 top 30 picks that are decent in a period of relative success, is no fail either - considering how little access we had to the top end. It's essentially 1 a year after 2017. Every 2nd round pick should fall into the mid 30's - failing King's arbitrary 'system', so would never count like it would for other teams - given our success.

But god forbid King would ever do that sort of analysis.
That is exceptional drafting and development since 2016. Given the picks we've had it's almost certainly the best in the league.

Can the younger guys there go from talents to stars? And can we find another Stewart or Tim Kelly and bring in another Cameron or Dangerfield? The answer to those questions will be the difference between being a finals team in 3-4 years and pushing for flags.

8 - sanders or curtin are the hope but would be fine with caddy, O’Sullivan assuming others don’t slide. There is a clear top 8 excluding acad players… then falls away sharply. There’s no way I’d trade back for lang, thurlow, smedts equivalents

25 - Charlie Edwards. Looks like an absolute diamond. Switched to mid late in the yr from the backline as an explosive powerful 190cm mid, with a great mark.

The negligence will be on full display again next year.

We're going to have more quality kids and under 25s in our side than Port did in 2019 & 2020, Collingwood in 2022 & 2023, Essendon in any of the last 20 years, you get the idea.

All these teams got the 'Young, brave & exciting' treatment, to the point where it was nauseating to listen to.

The analysis is so shallow that it might as well be propaganda. I get it, our club has been the benchmark for virtually 20 years, you're sick of us, but come on.

We're boring in the eyes of the media, and we're the cockroach the AFL just can't seem to kill....but some actual analysis would be nice. It's not charity, you're all getting paid ridiculous money to do this.

He reminds me a bit of Will Day who did similar, I really like him.
