I'm warming to Caddy a bit.

He reminds me a lot of Oscar Allen at the same age. Oscar slid a bit in his draft year, and that was mainly due to the same question marks that are being placed on Caddy.

Is he big enough to be a key forward? Is he just a really tall mid? Stuff like that.

A mate of mine who barracks for the Eagles mentioned them trialing Oscar as a 'Fyfe style' mid in his early days, and I could see similar with Caddy.

He still wouldn't be my first choice, but I'm getting my head around us taking him. I would prefer him to O'Sullivan for instance.

You take the gun key forward over the gun key defender every day of the week. They're just so valuable, and they're almost always early picks for a reason.

An O'Sullivan type can be found later in the draft, and we've already got SDK & Jack Henry who will be around for most, if not longer than the next 10 years.

Up the other end, Ollie Henry's a proven gun, while Neale is more of a ruck forward type in the mold of Rory Lobb. We do need another one coming through, either this year or next, or we'll go hard for JUH/Cadman.

Caddy won't be Tom Hawkins, but nobody will be. The great irony in all of this is 5 or 6 years ago, many where of the belief that players of Hawkins' ilk were going extinct.

The game seemed to be progressing further away from traditional, bulky, lead and mark key forwards.

If Caddy was being drafted back then, he'd probably be a lot more popular on here, as players like De Goey, Stringer and even Buddy to an extent where all the rage as mobile, psuedo key forwards who didn't rely on their marking game.

Hopefully for the sake of this board, the whole discussion is pointless and we're getting Sanders, but that feels increasingly unlikely without trading up.

I think Caddy will be gone at Melb or GWS picks before us anyway. They are both well stocked for defenders (May/Lever and Taylor/Buckley), so they'd take Caddy ahead of O'Sullivan. Though, there are rumours the Dees are very keen on Leake.

I would be surprised if WC or North offered up their FF for Curtin when you consider what the Eagles have already knocked back for pick 1 this year and that North would have bypassed him with their first 2 picks if he’s available to us.

Freo might offer their FF but that won’t be enough in itself. They don’t have any picks this year of value either.

Adel are the club that do have the picks to trade with us AND could be interested in taking Curtin. Whether we would trade out and bypass him is the question…?

In this draft I'd rather take Curtin than two picks in the teens.

This time of year its..like chowing down at the sweets table at Smorgys... more anything...more everything.!!! I will have one of Caddy..oh no ..one of Curtin ..oooohh..two of Wilson and Collard with a sprinkling of DeMattia and can I find a spot for KK... lets fill up that plate. No matter who is available ..I feel its more trying to discern ... is the sum of any offer for our pick better than what we get from using it. Is Caddy better than Wilson and Edwards ... or Leake better than Hastie and KK..or is Curtin better than Tholstrup and Reid etc..Look back in history ..im sure we can find examples either way.

The chance to add an early pick forward is rare for us. If he is good enough Caddy would be a good fit. imo.. If Caddy is capable of becoming a number 1 forward target... Melb would be silly to go past him but they may. As we have seen with Cadman..potential in the u18s is one thing ..it takes most forwards a while to transfer that into afl. But thats drafting...I feel our future needs are across the ground and player like Caddy learning along side a mature Cameron would probably work well.... and who knows ..he may become a forward that moves up the ground.

If we go with him fine..if not them Im sure we chose someone else because we feel they project as better long term

Honestly thought Tholstrup was pretty average at WAFL Level, I'd be hesitant to pick him unless we traded back.

Has a real bad habit of just blazing away with the footy.

Played against men all year in one of the toughest positions on the ground. It shows how highly Subiaco rated him that he missed a few games with injury and came straight back into the league side. Was a class above at the champs.

Popped into Chris Cavanagh's live QnA about the Draft and he said that Nate Caddy and Darcy Wilson are the two that have been strongly linked to us and expects it to be one of those two if we don't trade out and one of them is still on the board - so take that as you will

I do like Darcy Wilson, though he reminds me of Darcy Lang.

Theres a few possibilities..

Sanders available , absolutely taking him.. fills a need in the most important part of the ground.

But

I think its also a great opportunity to bring Caddy in this year as he will have overlap with and have the mentorship from two forward legends of the game which has been mentioned here.

Maybe Curtin for WC F1 wouldn't be a bad thing. Especially if we can use it to bring in JUH next year. WCE don't typically have multiple bad seasons in a row though.

I also wonder if there's a possibility to poach someone like Dry Anus from fremantle. Everyone seems to want to leave that club lol, and they'll probably never win a premiership. Reckon he's going to be pretty good and already is.

GIF “Say that again?”

Outside of the name, I can't really see the comparison.

Wilson is taller, bigger, quicker and has a frame that can bulk up over time.

He's more Holmes if anything, and I don't even think that's a great comparison, as Max has never shown much ability forward of centre as of yet.

Probably a Curtis Taylor type at worst, or a Connor Rozee at best. Lean, taller midfielders who can impact forward of centre, but rely more on their speed, agility and/or marking rather than brute strength.

Even if he was to stay skinny forever and never play inside, he's still a class user on the outside and can provide some spark in the forward line.

Lang had none of that, and unfortunately lost whatever agility and speed he had post the broken leg.

He also came in as a small mid, right at the time where the game was really transitioning to bigger bodied, contested midfielders. He didn't have much of an outside game, and only showed flashes in the forward line.

To be sub-six-foot as a midfielder these days, you've got to be pretty special, or just other worldly tenacious like a Selwood, Viney or Kieran Jack to make it in today's game.

Amiss is from WA, can't see him leaving. I also don't see KPF as a glaring need for us, yes Hawk will retire, but we still have Cameron, and Ollie Henry plays tall. If Collingwood can win a flag with Mihocek and Frampton, we'll be fine.

Realistically, we have depth in every position. I know people think we need a ruck or KPD, I disagree. That gives us the luxury of picking best available at the draft.

The rumours are starting to take shape now. Daniel Curtin is the one no one seems to be able to place.

1. WEST COAST - HARLEY REID (Rumoured)
2. NORTH MELBOURNE - ZANE DUURSMA (Rumoured)
3. NORTH MELBOURNE - COLBY MCKERCHER (Rumoured)
4. HAWTHORN - NICK WATSON (Rumoured)
5. WESTERN BULLDOGS - RYLEY SANDERS (Rumoured)
6. MELBOURNE - JAMES LEAKE (Rumoured)
7. GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY - NATE CADDY (?)
8. GEELONG - DANIEL CURTIN (?)
9. ESSENDON - CONNOR O'SULLIVAN (Rumoured)
10. ADELAIDE - DARCY WILSON (Rumoured)
11. MELBOURNE - CALEB WINDSOR (Rumoured)
12. SYDNEY - WILL GREEN (Rumoured)
13. ST KILDA - KOLTYN THOLSTRUP (Rumoured)

And a new nickname is born.

I laughed much harder than I should for someone of my age (obviously not maturity).

At the end of the day, what we all want is an A-Grade player with these types of picks.

Position is almost irrelevant unless you're at GWS/Gold Coast levels of draft handouts. Just get us a kid who can play football.

We just want, and need, a player who can be an All Australian, a poster boy, a B&F winner, that sort of thing.

Curtin fits that description. Nobody seems to know where he'll play, but the consensus is that he can play. A lot of draftees can't, and that's good enough for me.

There's not a lot of bust factor with him, he feels destined to be a star, we just don't know where

Sounds like a Brendan Goddard type.

They've got Pick 11, so I reckon they'd just take Leake then. Can't see them using Pick 6 on him, IMO.

The thought is they will pull the trigger at pick 6 ahead of GWS and us.
How did Leake go from fringe top 30 to pick 6 seemingly out of nowhere?

I don't mind him, but always wary of players who seem to bolt up the order when there's no football being played.

It feels like list managers have too much time to think, and try to outsmart themselves sometimes.

Twomey had him at 16 in his September rankings, so it's not a huge jump. Caddy, Curtin and O'Sullivan all seem to have mixed reviews.

Would be more than happy to take Leake if we traded down using Adelaide’s pick 10. But preferably hold the pick to take either Curtin or Caddy. I think we need to preference a tall.
