Gotta look deeper than the stat sheet here I think, hurt factor is near enough to zero and he doesn't defend, think theres options cheaper that are better.

yep, really hope we dont renew our interest. james worpel for free and his contract be much more smarter decision. and to be honest at this stage worpel is probably the better player.

This is a really interesting read on Oliver, even though info coming from McLure, claims Oliver is still pissed about not getting to us. He would be seeing what Bailey is doing with us and thinking it should also be him i reckon. His actual numbers this year are pretty good, 27 possessions, 7 clearances and 5 tackles per game.

If we are seriously chasing worpel then I'd say Clayton is staying at Melbourne as they are too similar type of players I doubt we would be trying to get both in and worpel will cost less.

Smith the difference again last night. Can’t get over how valuable he has been. Not posting to say, “I told you so.” Just super happy as a fan.

Also, didn’t watch the Eagles game because of the time slot clash but this is why Geelong are chasing him hard this year.

He has checked out. We keep talking about him being in contract but with how he’s playing and carrying on and all the negativity, if he comes and says he wants to leave, which I’m predicting will be leaked that he will after the bye… will they want to force him to stay a year? Honestly, what is the point if there’s no hope of convincing him to stay?

It’s a crazy situation. And can’t help but think the Yeo injury is hurting them so badly, he was the only player who could take the load off for him a little bit.

Port are really struggling this year. Outside of Butters they look like a mess. Still think 2026 FA and I’m confident if it comes to it we will be ahead of Bulldogs in spite of what Jay Clark is saying - albeit he is saying we are in the race - I just believe we lead it.

But man, what a win last night. And the talk about the umpires is laughable. Lyon and David King in particular embarrassed himself badly tonight going after them. Of all the games and all incidences he chooses to isolate an incident that was objectively a trip. Anyway, happy days at least until next weekend.

Yes they will. He's just about the most marketable asset in the afl. They aren't going to trade him this year unless they get overs. They will back themselves in to change his mind.

Reid's form this year doesn't look like he's worth giving multiple firsts for.
Yeah well hopefully Reid is pulling a swifty on WC and they start to think about moving him on whilst contracted.

Then he can come out and dominate for us.

If Reid was killing it now… WC wouldn’t even half consider trading him to us this year.

It’s a funny situation of trust and forecasting.

WC aren’t offering him 2m a year for nothing.

Interesting times if Reid just stays at this level all year.

WC might blink.

Only time will tell if blinking was the correct move or not.

If we're not getting Butters, Reid or Rowell, do you think the club will be go again at Oliver? Oliver and Worpel, we need ball winners.

I agree there’s still improving to be made, however he’s trying to hold down a key post as well as being thrown in the centre to ruck. There’s not many in the list that can do that
I'm not saying his doing it bad... His got heaps of improvement to be made from Neale. His done ok so far this season. But it is his 5th season of AFL now.
His not a kid anymore, but his young in games

I wouldn't put a lot of stock in the numbers. He's the definition of liability on field.
How are his clearance numbers without Gawn rucking? Or general CB performance without a dominant ruckman?

Next, how well does he cover the defensive spread? I think those two metrics are most important for our present team. As someone said, accumulating possessions between the arcs Constable-like without damage would not be useful.

I should further add, without watching the game, I can’t say for certain on Reid’s performance. But my mate who is a West Coast fan and a good eye for football genuinely believes Reid isn’t best 22 at the moment. This is startling to me. And if it continues and festers and they have to make a decisions whether they drop him or not, it makes you wonder what move they’ll make with it. Or if he will become “managed”. Again, my point is, with how bad it is already, how can this possibly drag on through 2026?
That may be his business plan at the moment. :winkv1:

To my old school mind, I hate this sort of posturing. TK did it right, and gets the highest respect from me for it. And it goes for every person, play out your contract, especially if you can't be cut or traded because of it.
I fully understand the strategy here, but I can see some unintentional consequences as well. Will there be some bad habits developing here? Does he have the will power/ego to go above and beyond what would be needed to get back into peak shape to play at his potential? (kudos to BS for doing that). Does he have a petulance gene swimming around inside his head like JHF? I'll take the competitiveness, but not the petulance.
Of course all is forgiven if we can get him at non-superstar prices. :grinv1:

Port got a lot of negativity for letting Houston go while contracted… and Reid is such a media PR face forWC.
I hope Im wrong. That we can find a way to add another R1 pick trading with a club that needs points ..offer something that gets the deal done but Im sceptical …unless WC get a fist full puzzle pieces ..either thru draft or trade that makes it obvious that it was a trade win.

You wouldn't think they would match Worpel... Only player ever been matched was Cameron

They would only consider matching worpel if Allen is coming and therefore they don't want to lose a compo pick. But if they matched I would walk.

Houston is a 28yo halfback. Yes he's AA level but they are the easiest type of player to find.

Harley is a 20yo explosive mid and on top of that he's a marketing and sponsors dream. That alone will mean they won't trade him in contract unless it's overs regardless of form. If we make finals we can't come up with the picks this year.

I don't know that he's played much without Gawn but I think we can assume he wouldn't get anywhere near the possession count
