Have to say …. watching Reid in the Ess and WCoast game … he has trained off a little. Still contributing but the glow has dimmed a little since his first year. Losing does that I guess. Im not 100% he would be in the Geelong side atm at his current level of preparedness.. thing is… I doubt he would be like that is he was here. Just makes it even harder to benchmark a value.
I think if he was in the Geelong side he would not have this level of preparedness

He is ECO and in our side he would be preparing better and playing better.

Can’t believe I’m going for Richmond. Hoping for a collapse so Rowell is unsettled. It’s crazy how much he’s playing like Selwood this season.
Derms comments on an inexperienced kpf line up feel pretty true for a side dominating the i50s for 3 goals 11 in nearly 3 quarters of footy.

That is going to take time to gel. Wait to gel or go Geel?

If he didn't choose Gold Coast... Which team is the next team he would choose
I don’t have any intel but just speculatively you’d have to think he would go for winning now. And in terms of fit only us and Collingwood make sense from Victorian sides. He would work at Hawks but I don’t think he fits them as well as us and the Pies. Imagining him and Daicos as a 1-2 punch is scary. And imagining him with Smith and Holmes makes me froth. Every other Victorian club he would obviously elevate but just makes no sense for him if he wants to win now.

I have no idea where you’re getting this info from. Geelong were following him all year and was in talks with his management. Oliver wanted to stay. It took until he felt like he was being pushed out again for the second time that he said ok, stuff this and drove out to the farm and then made up his mind. After that he still didn’t go nuclear to get out. He wanted out badly but we weren’t going to bend for Melbourne on his value.

I feel like I have covered this at depth and so is the media. I appreciate you’re going into bat for someone who got the info completely wrong the whole way through but the doubling down is a bit bizarre.
I was originally told Geelong was not interested in Oliver. Plenty of higher ups at Geelong didn't want Oliver at Geelong. Admittedly this was someone who works at a different club

Much appreciated... Plus any guess on maybe which Ruckman we could on our radar? With the little rumour we are knees deep in looking at one?

I think you will find the players and some of the coaches 100 % wanted him it's a few people involved in the board did not want him at all (but I doubt they would have overruled the FD who have runs on the board).

Collingwood have no realistic currency to get Rowell done (considering picks already gone for Schultz and Houston and mcguane will cost most of their draft hand this year). Unless they give up one of their other A graders I see no way they can get it done.

Hawks would be an option as they are on the way up but then worpel would need to go elsewhere FA (whether that's to us I don't know) as worpel Rowell Nash and newcombe are too similar type of inside mids you can't play them all together. Carlton don't have the cap space (and are overloaded for his type anyway). He wouldn't touch Richmond or melb where they are at in rebuilds and I doubt he would go to St kilda (they would love him though). Essendon will offer him more money than anyone but he seems the type to pick finals over cash.
You would think the dogs would come hard with libba and treloar close to retiring-they would give him finals but does he only want a 'big' club? Us and hawthorn would be the obvious 2 options.

We would be looking at a ruckman but I doubt it's tdk (given price) unless it's an older cheap backup like ROB then it's probably someone who is 3rd string at his current club (I'm totally guessing on it).

Yeah goes against everything I heard and why I was so strong on it from a Geelong perspective. End of the day if played out pretty publicly. Geelong wanted it. Oliver wanted it. Melbourne did not…

Yeah I agree with all of that except I think Pies are crafty enough to find picks if it came to it. But Hawks like you say is a funny fit. Which will be interesting these next five weeks for Gold Coast. If they head into the bye with a losing record the heat will be cranked up.

I know we kicked the tyres on Bryan at the end of last year but that seems out of the picture now with the injury. Otherwise some names floated I can’t see it. Can’t see Marshall. Can’t see ROB. I dream of TDK but just can’t see him passing up what would most likely be 800k to play for us if the Saints reports are real. But yeah, haven’t heard anything on this front and I noted in an earlier post, the Conway rumour was news to me but interesting timing with what I heard about Reid.

Hawks need to re-evaluate any possibility of recruiting Rowell with Days injury. They may need to focus on outside run over inside grunt

How could the pies do it? Unlike Port being morons taking unders for a 28yo hbf that won't happen here. Most of the pies gun players are too old to be worth a lot in a trade. Even if Maynard goes to North and gets them band 1 (which is unlikely I would have thought) that's still a late teens pick. That and their future 1st won't do it and they aren't trading Moore and the daicos brothers etc.

Hawks are an obvious fit in the sense that they have acres of cap room plus decent enough picks. But they would have to be ruthless enough to push worpel or Nash (probably the former) out. And they might want to focus on Allen and some key forwards anyway.

You could argue that for a club needing Rowells positional type we are the best fit but we also won't have early picks to do it. I still think the dogs are a really good fit for him if he wants success but he may not take a smaller club. Depends on his priorities.

I'm not sure on that. MacDonald ward mckenzie jiath (admittedly he needs to stop getting injured) plus massimo and Moore and some small forwards is a pretty decent crew. What they need is better key forwards but those are hard to get.

The only reason I suggested ROB is a) we might want an older guy for 2-3 years as a cheap rental (ie don't block Edwards long term) and b) he has non football reasons to possibly want to come and might not cost much.
I do think Bryan would have been a good option but that's gone now.
Marshall if he was cheap would be perfect but he will want way too much for a 30yo.
There's a few 3rd stringers around that I wouldn't mind if they were cheap enough so I think we have some options. We will need to do something with Stanley retiring and Conway not on the park.

He played a stinker tonight.

But he's probably my preferred target if the club really is looking at all of Reid, Butters and whoever else you can name.

I like Anderson even more than Rowell, but he doesn't look like going anywhere.

I fully agree with you. I think Maynard will be the key to it. Darcy Cameron talk might make sense, too. Get compo back for him. Maybe they move an Ed Allan back west. Have a clear out.

We are by far the best fit on all fronts. Interesting prospect if it comes to a choice between Rowell and Reid what we would do…?

As far as Bulldogs, I don’t see them having any draw. Coach no re-signed. Bont not signing is raising eyebrows, plus all the drama with JUH. Plus, Bevo could try and play Rowell off half back.

Wow, stinker is harsh. I thought he had a really good game. Was huge in the first half. And did fade the second half. But still a big outing.

And as much as I like Rowell, Butters is absolutely the number one for me. In my opinion he’s arguably the best play in the competition right now.
