Rumour GFC 2025 Player Trading, Drafting FA, Rumours and Wish lists Pt 2

With George Stevens going from possible delist to potential Wells Special in the space of 4 quarters, (Go George!) it has me thinking about list spots. My conclusion is its not easy to create vacancies.

1. Mullen. Requires an upgrade from rookie list so we start at Negative 1.
2. Stanley. Probably retires but if he does one pick has to be a Ruck. But I have said that before! His retirement takes us back to zero.
3. Duncan. Great career Mitch. Thanks for every game. We now have one vacancy.
4. Bews. Jed gets forced out. He is really unlucky. He might get another chance at another club. Now, 2 vacancies.
5. Cam Guthrie. If he retires, but I doubt he does. His record keeps him on the list. Not adding a spot here but I know many see him as gone.
6. Wiltshire. The success of the 23 draft makes creating list spots much harder. The tightness makes Wiltshire a delist. Possible re rookie. We now have 3 list spots.
7. Knevitt. Maybe we can delist and re rookie someone like Knevitt. But I think he is worth perservering with. Hope to see him in the side again this year. This probably is achievable. That makes 4 spots.

Thats it for me. 4 spots with one rookie relisting (Knevitt) 5 If Cam Guthrie hangs them up. I'd think 4 is enough but it depends on what happens in trade week.

Just for reference, if Cam has no say in the rest of 2025, which even the eternal optimist would concede is likely - That would lead us into the fourth year in a row we're hoping Cam comes good, all after the age of 30.

One year is a blip. Two could be a coincidence. Three is an alarming trend, and four is just negligence.

Love him, and he's forever a legend for his efforts in '22, but if he doesn't get back in the senior side in these next 3 months, then it's time.

As you display, it's not like we have an abundance of list spots opening up. We just can't afford the fairytale anymore.

A weekend of promising links to the GFC in the under 18 championships.
Jesse Mellor ( I believe is linked through academy?) kicked 3.3 and had 15 possessions and 11 score involvements.
Hunter Holmes (brother of Max, I believe) 16 possessions * inside 50's 5 score involvements and some great dashes through the middle and wings. No record of Meters gained but he seemed to have alot like his brother.

Grilj, Curtin, Murray, Onley, Hibbons-Hargrave, Rodriguez some other late first rd options who played on the weekend.

I don't particularly rate him, but he's just about the perfect example of a player I could envisage Chris Scott and Nigel Lappin turning into a bankable player, if not a star.

Guys like Perkins and Hobbs are the reason Essendon continue being Essendon (they’ve got a heap of them). Do not rate at all.

Atkins will need a replacement ( not looking to replace him yet but its coming ) and Ted is ready made to take over.
Will be cheap to keep on the list, knows the gameplan and gives 120% each week.

Isn't he a bit of a turn-over merchant? Seems that way every time I watch the Bombers. Not their worst player, but not sure how much he adds to our team...especially if he's on a big contract for another 5+ years.

Would prefer him to Hobbs. But don't particularly rate either. Happy to pick him up for nothing if we've got list spots to fill though.

I believe he is out of contract at the end of this season. The decision will not be his to make.

Stanley is far more likely to play on in 2026 (I would encourage him to do so). If someone had told me that in 2023 I would have asked for a hit of whatever they were smoking.

I disagree. He gives 100% commitment every time but his ball use is always going to hold him back. I expect him to get another year but I wouldn't be shocked if he's delisted.

Clohesy isn't really best 22/23... Well he'd be right on the borderline as a fringe player.

Prob too good for the VFL but not really much more than depth in the AFL right now.

Not really a mid at AFL level... not really a forward... Just a handy goer if needed.

Maybe in a couple of years he keeps improving little by little and becomes our Atkins mk2 (think he is more likely to do that than Clark).

If they want to get him in just to have him a bit more ready incase required come finals time... I guess they'll just rotate someout if need be.

I'm happy for him not to be playing because it means our team on the park is strong.

Real list squeeze coming up this year.

Most people here will probably say that Stanley, Bews, Guthrie and Duncan are retired/deliated at years end. Duncan is obvious but I think Stanley may keep going and maybe one of Bews and Guthrie are retained for depth and loyalty. Maybe Wiltshire is a delist then re-rookie. Can only see us taking 3 draft picks. And that’s if we don’t trade anyone in.

Looking at him on the bench the other day ..he looked unhappy . Woudl he want to swap a Scott for a Scott? Whats the role that we would see him in? Age profile would fit our recent trade ins. Cost ? As he is not OOC. 24 and 100 odd games … one would have to think carefully about recruiting him as an improvement project. Would he represent better value than who we would get with the picks we would need to use. Woudl it be a player for player trade.

Hobbs is a hard trier but that is all, Perkins showed encouraging signs when drafted but has stagnated in a big way which must be so disappointing for Bomber supporters. I'm like with many others here on Geelong BigFooty and at club hierarchy, target the 'A graders' and do all we can to get them but they like with all of 'our' other great players don't get paid ridículous overs on contract, cos that can kill a club with Demons exhibit one!

I think of Clohesy more like Rhylee West at the dogs. West is hugely under rated
