Please enlighten to to how you can trade in Aleer, Ryan and either one of Flanders and CMac without absolutely stuffing up your list profile/ drafting?

You currently have picks 7, 43 and 58
With a bid likely to come in the second round for your NGA player Fincher?
You would’ve dumb to trade a top 10 pick.

So you have future picks only, due to the fact Fincher is most likely going to chew up 43, 58 and some change
Gettable yesterday.

Ryan - Future second.
Aleer - Late pick or PSD
Flanders - our first is on the table.

We have Fincher coming as an academy pick. We have hit the last 4 drafts strongly - so have plenty of youth.

We actually have a massive gap in our list profile of 24-28 year olds.

Ryan- agreed
Aleer PSD is no chance, he will cost you a 3rd at a minimum
Surely your talking about next years first

So let’s say it’s Ryan F2
Aleer F3
Flanders F1

Fincher pick 43,58 swallowed up

Your going to hit the draft with pick 7
Then nothing until the 60’s

Next year nothing until pick 60
That’s if you have no other academy players coming through

Id trade Jhye Clark for Mackenzie.

Clark, Rd 1 to Saints for Marshall.

Clark and whatever the saints want to throw in for Mackenzie.
Clark for Mackenzie is like trading a Mitsubishi Mirage for a Fiat 500L. Why would either club bother?

I guess if Mackenzie wants out there's only so much Hawthorn can do, but it just feels like circle work for all three clubs involved in that one.

Guess it removes the sunk cost fallacy for both while switching hands for the direct counterpart.

You slide this years pick 7 down and split it. You then split one of the firsts again and give yourself all the currency you need.

You don’t touch the 2026 first.

Your not going to Split pick 7
And if you were who too?
It’s certainly not GC and their pick 12 and 15
They will be trading those out for future picks

Gold Coast don’t have enough points as is to match those top 5 bids under the new DVI.

Which I’ll assume is why my clubs gone hard to get Flanders.

No idea with who. But not sure how you can rule out that we can’t. It’s pick 7. Someone always wants to go up the draft board.

“Someone” is doing a lot of the heavy lifting here and you’re assuming that “someone” is willing to pay the price you think that pick 7 is worth

Marshall out for TDK
Wilkie out for Silvagni

You'd be spewing, SOS would get driven out of another club if he serves that up.
Doubt it, but imagine if it happens.

You finally land your "big fish" and get a trade haul of players to boot, and you still objectively end up operating at a net loss.

They've got to do something...but it's not that.

Not comparable - Marshall is in contract, Smith wasn’t.

If anything, SOS will be the one “saying call when you’re ready to deal”
So if .. and I say if.. Marshall’s Saint spirit has been broken by spending 1.8 a year on TDK and he selected Geelong - which has not happened yet - SOS is gonna forgo a 2025 Rd 1 pick from us and make Marshall stay.

Seems logical and the SOS way - which has clearly worked out well for him so far given his track record of trading and drafting winning lists

Go Catters

Mate it’s September 4th and a final hasn’t been played.

So yeah, someone is doing the heavy lifting until October.

With FS and draft selections poised to be atleast 3 in the top 10 then it’s likely your splitting pick becomes 9/10

Then you factor in your team not wanting to hold onto that selection, with a few good fwds around the 10 pick I don’t see how you trade it when it’s your biggest weakness
It’s all good and well people wanting it, but it all depends on what you want more.

Yeah I agree with you. I don't know why either club would do it. Good outcome for Geelong though.

It would absolutely be considered an illegal restraint of trade in any other walk of life, as would the draft system. All depends on what's considered reasonable for the purpose of maintaining an even competition. I agree it's very questionable.

That's why the NRL doesn't have a draft I'm pretty sure.

A player challenged that they had to go to where the draft told him he had to go and he won the case.

Something along those lines anyway

I’m only giving insight as per actual reports on our cap situation.

Which relates to, someone needs to fall out to fit them in. Which if it was true, wouldn’t be Marshall as per Cleary - he doesn’t have a lot of salary left on his 2 year deal.

I’m not for one second saying he doesn’t want to get to Geelong. I’m just saying your going to need to improve your first round pick
So what do you have to give up for Ryan than? A year younger, still under contract, was a All Australian
