That part about talent nor indeed his ability is not in question.
Never has been.
But every player in a starting 18 has talent/ability otherwise they wouldn't be there.
He has had this talent and ability ever since he was drafted in 2020, 5 years ago.
His lack of exposure in the seniors is solely on his application and lack of work off field that was highlighted last year.
That part i know. So if he does the hard work he'll be fine.... or should be.
But until then he is as i said not even in our top 25 players.
Break Glass in Emergency
The ball is in his court, has always been in his court.
As talent & ability, which every AFL player. Only gets u so far.
All i can say is thank God we bought Jack Martin to the club.

I dont think we are that far away from each other on this post. I would agree that any player that has lost his post has to have hard look ..and then take on the feed back ..and then work on whats been asked. Talent is the first part. Skill is the second ..and that often is something that slips thru on the most talented then the last part is application . No good having all the talent in the world, skill to be able to do anything with the ball and then not be able to utilise it in the modern demands of 2020’s footy.

I think he is too talent to not be in the side as long as he meets all the other criteria. As you say..the ball is in his court but I cant see him being kicked of the court for a while.

I don’t think anyone is thinking Geelong will get him for a bargain basement deal.

Almost everyone saying R1 for a nearly 30 year old ok ruck that isn’t required at his current club.

Im low-key hoping we can hold our R1… but it just seems about right.

Saints would like a bit more, we’d like to give a bit less.

R1 seems close. Time will tell.
i would not pay a Rd1 pick for a 30 year old. When was the last time a 30 year old was traded for a R1 pick? R2 at best.

The other question is how disgruntled if at all Marshall is over TDK coming in and the size of the contract

Yes u may be right.
But that First Round pick in name will be needed for bigger and better fish going forward.

Unfortunately I don't think it will now. Rowell, Reid and Cadman have all re-signed. It leaves Butters as the lone ranger and I think he would be the least likely of the 4 to request a trade to Geelong, particularly when clubs are going to make him a godfather offer we wouldn't match.

I think Jhye Clark 13 said he was deciding between the Dogs and us, but is leaning to the Dogs because they're offering more.

Specifically what thou. Our r1 pick ..a player?

We give our first and get Marshall

Liam Ryan-ish to the saints

Our first-ish to West Coast.

The values for Ryan and our first don't exactly align but saints and Eagles can sort that out with whatever

You could split those into two separate trades but if you want a tense deadline buzzer beater for the fans that works better

I think the trade for Marshall will ultimately get done but it'll play out similar to the Smith trade last year - early posturing from both teams, with a deal done late that will involve more than simply Geelong & St Kilda

I cant say I love it… but we do need to add a Stanley replacement.

Im not convinced on Marshall .

Mackie should be enquiring what Melbourne is offering Heath, we up that enough to help with a move down the highway and sell the message that he'll be the #1 ruck from round 1 2026, rather than being second fiddle to Gawn who's contracted until 2027

Marshall is a better player than Ryan.

Look, I’m not going to argue about this - I’ve already posted enough on your Board.

You guys want Marshall. Which means you rate him.
He is contracted for another 2 years and has already been paid a large part of those 2 years. So would have a very desirable deal. A deal that also suits us and he is a desired player.

Even Geelong fanatic Cleary is saying it’s going to take more than you have. Let’s see what happens. We already said no to Marshall next year when he asked to leave.
It makes no difference if you say Marshall is better then Ryan... same problem is Ryan is contracted exactly as Marshall and is younger...

Not sure what reality that is, as I would be pretty sure mist neutral supporters would rank Marshall as the more avlauable player.

Marshall is contracted for 2 more years.

Well the Cats could go out in straight sets to improve the offer, but I doubt it? So I would expect some form of sweetener.

Marshall's salary for 2026 and 2027 has had a large chunk of it paid already as it was heavily front end loaded (as it has been with a number of other St Kila players).

So for St Kilda Marshall will be cheaper for 2026 and 2027 than Ryan will be. And cheaper than many players on our list will be for 2026/27.

This effects the trade price that St Kilda would be Ok to release him at.
It doesn't mater... Ryan is contracted exactly like Marshall is. He may only worth a 2nd round pick, but Ryan is contracted so you will have to pay more. And pay a 1st round pick exactly like Marshall will have to

I'm convinced he's better than throwing Edwards to the wolves or destroying blitz body

As I said we need to add someone..whether he is the guy I guess we watch as see.

Just looks at table on what age rucks on average enter the side ..and then become full time. Its probable that Edwards might be ready to splash the odd game next year but he is still probably some time away from being a regular The question is Conway I guess. How long can one just hope that he will be ready…. but his age sort of says he should be getting close.

Edwards 21 next year..

Conway 20 and. 23 next year

Grundy it looks like 19 and 21

Gawn it looks like 20 and 23/24

Jackson looks like 19 and 20

Goldstein looks like 20 and 22

Xerri looks like 21 and 24/25

To use a late R1 on a mature player in an area of real need probably makes more sense than adding another chunk of slow burn wood onto the fire in the VFL. Lets face it its probably going to be tough for any kid to break in….

Some of these rucks that are happy to sit behind other make ones head ache. Moyle and Goad and Madden etc . Witts is 33 so Moyle is probably hoping it will no be long but it still could be years. Once they start winning , he is probably going to want to hang around for as long as possible. ..but .. Moyle is 24 next year. He would be ideal. … but he is contracted and GC would not let him go.

It all probably depends on Conway . If he manages to stay fit ..the next year no matter who we recruit he probably plays… and then Heath would be a great option to give relief for a player like Conway.

Its more about what if he doesnt. Then. if we only add a guys like Heath.( Looks a strong body and maybe he is ready to be the #1 in 2026 but who knows..). or the untried verrall or Knobel etc …we could just have no coverage that the MC trust and we end up throwing Sam to the wolves again.

I love all the saints fans now thinking they are the kings of the AFL yet still unlikely to make finals next year, going to be hilarious to watch the implosion!!

Its like they on a high cause their club is actually relevant again.. I can sort of hear them all singing Blister in the Sun...

When I'm out walking
I strut my stuff
And I'm so strung out
I'm high as a kite
I just might stop to check you out...

Next year it will be “She Drives Me Crazy”

I can't get any rest
People say I'm obsessed
Everything you say is lies
But to me there's no surprise
What I had for you was true
Things go wrong, they always do

We don’t need the draft capital at all. We have our full future hand and what starts at pick 7 - which we can trade with.

You’ll need to improve your first round pick. Don’t think there is anything delusional about that.
Every team wants/needs draft capital. I do think we’ll need to pay a bit more than our 1st but I don’t think it necessarily needs to be one pick (improving our 1st)

I also don’t think it a certainty that he moves on by any stretch. It does however seem like players get a move they want more and more these days.
