High profile, high cost players moving takes 12-24 months of effort/working in advance… see Dangerfield, Cameron, Smith.
High profile, high cost players (often past their best) coming and knocking on Geelong’s door a few months/weeks before trade period… see Deledio, Oliver, Curnow… don’t get done.

Stranger things have happened in trade week.
Player for Marshall, first rounder future second and player for Curnow.
Multiple club trade

Carlton would laugh pick 19 and a future 2nd out of the room. No chance whatsoever.

Good to see. Has the professionalism to respect both the club he's leaving and the club he seeks to join.

He wont mention til after the Hawks b & f i dont think seems respectful.

Hi guys, congrats on another GF. You really are the envy of the comp.

Quick question/s: do you think Crom would be getting a decent player in Stevens? Certainly something to work with?
Skills and size are there , speed is a bit of a concern and remains to be seen if that can be improved or managed in the right set up

Yep, exactly. Look, if we didn't have Atkins already and Worpel on the way...

Thanks for the reply. Speed is prob something our midfield lacks. So he’d have to be an absolute bull around the contest if he’s going to fit in.

You won’t get a better kid in terms of attitude. He’s a ripping young guy. Will not die wondering whether he was good enough to play AFL.

Dangerfield when asked off the cuff about him:

“Yeah, (he’s like a) ‘Joey’ (Josh) Kennedy. He's so similar it's frightening,” Dangerfield replied on SEN Breakfast.
“Joey was a star obviously, but when he came through I think he had similar challenges early on in his career in terms of how he was pigeonholed as a player.
“People would say, ‘He’s not as fast as whoever’. But where he hits home is that he’s better than anyone else in the contest.
“He plays to his size. Joey was so good at protecting space, and he was actually quite fast over the first two to three steps.
“In the open field, you could get him, but inside the phone box, he was brilliant and George is really similar.
“Those first couple of steps are really quick. He protects the space well, and he plays to his size. He's not 190cm and plays like he's 180cm, he’s 190cm and plays every bit of that size.”

He definitely feels to me like the opposite of what you need but none of the above would be news to your recruiters and they're the ones getting paid the big bucks

I'd be happy for him just to be a success

Yeah I feel Scott can eventually make him work in the midfield, it’s just whether he gets opportunities elsewhere and I wish nothing but the best for the kid

Think a budget Josh P Kennedy in terms of his skills and playing style.

It sounds awesome, but the problem is, that archetype of player was a superstar a decade ago. Nowadays, they're a dying breed.

It could work, but you'd need him to be the designated ball winner and surrounded by outside receivers with pace.

You can't carry anyone who can't spread from stoppage if you're playing him, so it doesn't bode well for Berry, Peatling etc.

A bit like having a superstar in the NBA who can't shoot. It can work, but you need everyone around him to compensate.

I dunno, just pressure and transition running feels like something that's never going to be his go. Unless Scott decides flip the game style to create and win stoppage, but with the last disposal rule coming in that's a losing battle too

Wonder what happens with Bruhn and if that would effect what happens with Stevens. I really hope we keep him, got a Brownlow vote in his first game and there will always been a need for ball winners while 6-6-6 is in play.
I wonder what the timeline is with Tanner. If he is innocent you would hope the club would stand by him.

The committal hearing is set to resume in November - highly doubtful we know anything further before then at the earliest

No trading out contracted players is what I meant. Just goes against the grain and I know Chris Scott holds a view that it's not how you build and maintain the right culture of stability, or make the club a destination.

I recall Ross Lyon referencing Geelong and Scott recently when asked about his philosophy of trading contracted players.
Yes and like any rule … that can alter it if its serves. JClark was traded out while contracted I believe.

I just feel if you are happy to trade in contracted than it probably means that on occasion you will trade out contracted players
