Remember how the media sold the Jezza trade. “First ever side to give up three first rounders.” Meanwhile we got two second rounders not far removed from two of the first rounders coming back but they left that out.
So yeah, I agree doing a deal like this would be a good sell for the media and the fans, which helps Eagles stomach it. And if Reid chooses us as others have mentioned spot on, the deal doesn’t get better next year.
This is why I’m so confident in this deal. This is why Twomey opened his spiel about it only mattering where Reid wants to go. Not the picks, not the cash.
Same with Ryan Daniels implications.
And us being in the box seat this early fares very well.
I feel very confident with us making a bold move like this, especially with our track record for late first round picks being patchy at best.
Yes Mitch Duncan.I'm just going to assume you mean Mitch Duncan and not Henry Playfair![]()

Sure, but regardless of what Cal Twomey thinks, the deal still has to actually get done.Cal Twomey was 'extremely explicit and emphatic' when he said it only matters where Harley Reid wants to go, NOT picks or cash. So much so, that it is important for every Geelong BigFooty member to fully take that comment on board and very seriously
... is this a Mitchell White joke?
FishGutz: Cal Twomey was 'extremely explicit and emphatic' when he said it only matters where Harley Reid wants to go, NOT picks or cash. So much so, that it is important for every Geelong BigFooty member to fully take that comment on board and very seriously, in other words whatever club Harley Reid chooses/nominates that is the club where he will end-up playing, PERIOD. If it happens to be Geelong FC then he'll be playing for Geelong and it does appear at present we are an excellent chance of that happening if indeed Harley decides to leave West Coast. As it sits now things are looking very promising, well let's hope so..... SO HARLEY REID and GO CATS !!!

Totally agree , he's phoning it in at the moment. When you look at his season so far… these conversations are getting quite ludicrous.
That applies next year when he's out of contract. When was the last time an out of contract player didn't get where they wanted to go?
This year he's still contracted so West Coast do have the option to just say no like we did with Tim Kelly.
There will still have to be an agreed trade, though. That's a valid point Footy Smarts: with deal being deferred until 2026 when there's no restrictions of movement between ALL parties.
I know nothing about where he might/mightn't go. But commuting from the surf coast to Footscray seems much easier than every other Melbourne club. So, I don't think it would preclude him from moving there and then just playing for the dogs.I think there's as much likelihood of landing Hussein as there is of TDK being at Geelong. We're not in on that deal - certainly not at the price STK are willing to pay. It's Carlton or Saints only I reckon.
Reid - Rowell - Butters - Cadman. Land one or more of those names and we'll all be pretty happy. A mate of mine is strongly involved at Hawthorn and he reckons Reid only has interest in Cats or Hawks. Butters to Dogs seems to be the consistent message but it makes his property purchase seem at odds with that - maybe setting himself up for life post footy back home.
There will still have to be an agreed trade, though.

That is a great deal for Port. So essentially they gave up 2 firsts, 43, 53, 57, for JHF and Rioli. There was a swap of second and thirds that nearly cancel each other out.Try making sense of all this:
MEGA DEAL DETAILS

Trade in: Picks No.2, 3, 40, 43, 2023 future first-round pick (tied to Port Adelaide)
PORT ADELAIDE
Trade out: Picks No.8, 43, 53, 57, 2023 first-round pick, 2023 second-round pick, 2023 third-round pick

WEST COAST

Trade in: Picks No.8, 12, 2023 second-round pick (tied to Port Adelaide), 2023 third-round pick (tied to Port Adelaide)
GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY

Trade in: Pick No.1, 53, 57
There is no advantage in keeping Reid against his wishes thoughI’m not going to get question whether Call Twomey or FishGutz have their intel right, wrong or indifferent. I am glad Geelong are in the hunt for him, and if we land him, then it’s a pants off arrangement. The most we could offer this year, or the year after, is 3 firsts, 2 seconds (with maybe a third coming back)
But if I’m West Coast, I’m still not trading Reid this year. Just like we did with TKelly I’d back ourselves to try and keep him. It may fail and they may have wasted one year, but that’s their risk. They can sell to their members that they tried. I acknowledge there are differences - we are a perennial finalist and West Coast are a rabble, so that hurts their chances. And JHF left after one year as well. But I doubt West Coast do it, unless they get quality players in return, and that’s not happening.
Anyway, hope I am wrong.

They’re wanting him badly. They’re saying there’s no weapons of mass destruction and it was all a ploy to get him leading our midfield. So Fishgutz - I don't know if you can reveal much about it, but I know the question is pretty much on everyone's lips --
How likely is the Saddam Hussein to Geelong move?
They’re wanting him badly. They’re saying there’s no weapons of mass destruction and it was all a ploy to get him leading our midfield.
At 188cm he will be the big body mid we need. A brute inside the contest and will come to us under NGA.
I see the argument of WCE just trading Reid out now and trying to cash in. But if I'm them, I'd be holding him for a year and trying to convince him to stay. Especially because I imagine our offer wouldn't be that tempting anyway - our first rounders are likely to be in the teens.
I also don't see that much similarity to the JHF situation. WCE are performing poorly atm, but they are an extremely rich and well-resourced club who have won a premiership more recently than most clubs. They would probably back themself to improve and convince a player to stay. Whether they will or not is a very different question though.
True. Mannagh's ruck work was actually notoriously sub-par.Yeah, but Mannagh wasn't just the best ruckman in the VFL, he was arguably the best player in the VFL, and came off a frankly incredible performance in the GF.
I can't think of many mature-aged ruckmen who have elevated out of the state leagues and done really well. Meanwhile, Fort, Abbott, Stephenson...
Sure, but regardless of what Cal Twomey thinks, the deal still has to actually get done.
