I was very critical of him, but he's played well.Looks like Worpel might be a pretty good get. Dominating clearances against GWS.

Worpel will be more useful for us than people think.
Getting it in quickly in the forward line is beneficial to us thoughHe will add an inside body to help axe. I would think they might have to reprogram him a bit ..he does long bomb it a bit

Im much the same.
We have been lucky sometimes..and this year ..at first look we have been unlucky with a couple of players availability.. and maybe we see those two end up costing us some decnt picks and producing not much. Bad luck
Plenty of other clubs would love to have the bad luck we have endured. Kolo being out for the year has enable COS to play..probably means we need how that plays out but id not be dropping COS now
The truth is we could add no one but a couple of rucks to list and still be fine next year… and we know we will add a small goal kicking forward.
Id normally not do it for Marshall but a few reasons makes it the right thing to get it done..as long as Stk do not get all crzytown. The 30 year old thing is a concern. We could get to this spot in 12 months and we are talking injury again.
...
Moyle not selected. Its unlikely but id certainly touch base with Moyle and go hard with a big offer just to see if he is unequivocally unavailable.
We have Edwards, Mollier and Pike. I think thats probably one too many young and developing rucks. Would a seasoned body delisted ruck be a better option as a rookie? We have been linkled as one of the clubs lookig at the USA boys but ..again… Blitz is a rare beast. How likely is it you get a USA guy that is a legit selection option.
He's second rate. DO NOT WANT.Worpel will be more useful for us than people think.
He's second rate. DO NOT WANT.
I cannot count the amount of times we have judged a player before he came to us via draft or trade where we’ve got it totally wrong. How about we trust the list managers who seem to know what they are doing considering we have been perpetually in the mix for the past 20 years.Worpel will finish 2026 in the magoos in our system tbh, adds nothing that we don't already have and would have to move better players around to allow him to play his best role, only possible way it would work is if hes content to be 5th or 6th in a rotation and have low time on ground (why would he leave Hawks to be in that scenario).

Watching Worpel yesterday against GWS, I thought he would be a very handy player for us. His inside work is quite good and will get better with our coaching staff's guidance. I think Worpel might be a good get for us.Shaun from Bigfooty knows better than the GFC hierarchy…
He’s a depth player and limited. The Hawks don’t want him for a reason.Watching Worpel yesterday against GWS, I thought he would be a very handy player for us. His inside work is quite good and will get better with our coaching staff's guidance. I think Worpel might be a good get for us.
So why would the GFC and its recruiting/list management people pursue him..??Worpel will finish 2026 in the magoos in our system tbh, adds nothing that we don't already have and would have to move better players around to allow him to play his best role, only possible way it would work is if hes content to be 5th or 6th in a rotation and have low time on ground (why would he leave Hawks to be in that scenario).
They don’t want Worpel! He is about to play in a semi and has been offered a 4 year contract. They might want to get a draft pick for him to get a different type of player in, but he is obviously valued even when having a season when he has been down on form. He’s a depth player and limited. The Hawks don’t want him for a reason.
The Hawks do want him, and they have offered him a 4-year deal, IIRC. The decision to leave Hawthorn will be Worpel's. The media is reporting he wants out. Make of that as you will, but to suggest the Hawks don't want him is wrong. He’s a depth player and limited. The Hawks don’t want him for a reason.

Exactly. The most appealing thing about Worpel
Is no trade capital and PNP
Ready to go mature body in the midfield
Similar to MarshallExactly.
As usual, Australian sport is about 10-15 years behind US sport and European soccer in how it evolves. It is overs, and is yet another example of money distorting the game, and the unhealthy allegiance to money that is overwhelming it.
Sure, players want to set themselves up, but Silvagni $4mil, TDK $13mil +, etc??
Nah. I see an element of greed pervading the game.

If we continue to follow their lead, the current wave of contracts is just the beginning. In a short period of time the disconnect between the players and fans (in terms of relatability) will grow to the point of being irredeemable, the fan experience will be unattainable for the average person and the game will just be a platform for corporate marketing. It has started to be that way already, but it will be magnified in a massive way.
In the not too distant future, the super rich will be owning clubs, and a breakaway elite competition backed by media interests will be proposed. This competition will either be successful in starting up, or the AFL will be forced into a merger of sorts with the proposed venture to ensure its survival.
Old geezers like me will bemoan how it wasn’t as good as the old days, all while corporate theatre goers and social media addicted young people will be more interested in winning trade period than they are in winning the flag.
Welcome to the future, it will be here before you know it.
Back up ruckman is like being a back up quarterback. To use a late R1 on a mature player in an area of real need probably makes more sense than adding another chunk of slow burn wood onto the fire in the VFL. Lets face it its probably going to be tough for any kid to break in….
Some of these rucks that are happy to sit behind other make ones head ache. Moyle and Goad and Madden etc . Witts is 33 so Moyle is probably hoping it will no be long but it still could be years. Once they start winning , he is probably going to want to hang around for as long as possible. ..but .. Moyle is 24 next year. He would be ideal. … but he is contracted and GC would not let him go.
It all probably depends on Conway . If he manages to stay fit ..the next year no matter who we recruit he probably plays… and then Heath would be a great option to give relief for a player like Conway.
Its more about what if he doesnt. Then. if we only add a guys like Heath.( Looks a strong body and maybe he is ready to be the #1 in 2026 but who knows..). or the untried verrall or Knobel etc …we could just have no coverage that the MC trust and we end up throwing Sam to the wolves again.
Injury aside, I don’t agree with this. But Gawn is the only really example of it happening that way and he’s a generational player. Who not only went through injury issues but he changed his mindset and preparation to get himself ready for AFL footy.
Yes rucks often take time but people speak about the path that Gawn took as though it’s common. Most of the other good rucks either did perform well early or at least played consistent footy at a level then took bigger steps to further their development.
We all hope he’s another miracle story but that seems more unlikely. Dawson Simpson is the more likely scenario.
