No surprise that Rhys is already under contract for 2026 then.

Happy to put our first this year on the table for Marshall and see if the Saints come crawling back on the last day of trade deadline if they need it to close out some of their other deals. If it doesn't happen, no big deal.

Still think the TDK inflation on the Wilkie, Windhager deals will put the blow torch on to holding on to an expensive back up ruckman.

Sure they probably won't need to get rid of him for the cap next year but I can't see a TDK/Marshall combo being overly effective, so if they can get a first rounder and then bank 5% cap for the next two years for when Nasiah is OOC again in 2 years time, it makes sense to me to trade him while the deal is in play.

It is also a good negotiating point. If Stanley had retired or we hadn’t yet offered a contract, we would be seen as desperate for Marshall. Now we have an inform Stanley for next season no matter what. Great to be able to rest Marshall when necessary, let alone if he gets injured.

I’d only entertain Worpel if we got him at a bargain basement price. One-paced players are not the way to go. Much prefer to use our negotiating assets on Marshall, where the real need is.

Apparently cats offered Worpel $600k for 4 years which is more than hawks $500 for 3. Its a crazy offer as he doesn't get a game for us on Friday night. Save the cash for someone better.

That's my thing. If we by some miracle land Butters then Worpel cant fit in at all.
And we have Clark, Chlosey, Bowes, Knevitt.

I highly doubt that a club in premiership mode would be interested in that type of deal loosing a KPD that can give relief in the ruck.. Picks don't kick goals or intercept marks. In a poor draft P7 or what ever it technically becomes once bids are matched and FA comp given… might give us a handy kid. Best situation is we find a Max Holmes type ..worst and probably more likely this year ..we get someone who will take time like Clarke has. Perhaps losing a tall we draft another which is more time. Maybe Marsh ? Would he be gettable at that pick?


IF the Marshall trade all gos to mud we could always list Goldstein for a year..what is 38 . Have to be some that could do a job for a while.



Unless SdeK demanded to join his brother…then Geelong would just ignore that deal deal out of hand.. and if he wants money to set himself up I think he has time. Just wait a couple of years till when he is a FA ..and the money offers will be there. Till then play some footy and who knows what he adds to his cv.


but if ..they were offering enough money to make them Tom and Sam St De Moolah and Sam demanded a trade then Id think we would be wanting more than just 2025 picks in the draft this year to do the deal. Just not enough reward to think about it …unless we had another trade in mind.

We paid 450-500 for dahl and with where the cap is now that would be 700.
If we are getting worpel for 600 thats cheap for his type of FA.

The problem is his kids. He doesnt get on with his ex and she's not going to be super flexible if he moves to Geelong. We offered him 4 years plus a ruck coaching role last time when he was still at north and that's why he knocked it back.
I do think a cheap backup ruck trade is in order though if we can't get marshall out.

I know the Dogs parted with a fair bit to trade up to get him at the draft but if I was them I would do that. It's potentially Moloney for Ottens for the piece they are missing to be a proper side.

I agree. Even if we are signing Stanley i doubt he plays much afl next year if we get marshall or another mature ruck.
What it does do is help the vfl squad (which will be really young with guys like Duncan and bews gone) and give us an extra ruck coach without hitting the soft cap.

Dogs wont trade sanders. One they basically gave up 3 first rounders for him.
Secondly sanders is better off waiting 2 years and going home to tassie as their captain for more money than St kilda will give him.
St kilda are asking for the world for marshall and Wilkie because they dont want to trade either but want to be able to claim that the other clubs refused to deal. Classic move.

Maybe but its an easy way to mend fences with the player by saying 'hey we didnt refuse to trade you outright the other club wouldn't deal blame them' while knowing they wont have to do the trade because neither Geelong or the dogs will pay that much.
