In what is reputedly one of the poorest drafts ever for players who are not already committed to a specific club, I'm figuring we would all be best to take Darryl Kerrigan's wisdom on board when it comes to our expectations for seeing your dream realised this time around.Any good speedy outside midfielders with good footskills that we can get with our 2nd pick?
I would have thought if we were looking at rongdit we would have delisted pike or not relist kmf to open another rookie spot (although i suppose we may want to cat b rongdit). I think with the injury maybe no one drafts him and if he plays state league next year we could always take him in 12 months.50/50 to Stevens still being on in the hoops next season
Mellor to be selected but unsure if we'll commit to Rongdit - basing that on not hearing much about either of our NGAs in terms of draft speculated
The non academy draft will be thin where we will pick but still options.Any good speedy outside midfielders with good footskills that we can get with our 2nd pick?
Wouldn’t be averse to bidding on Addinsall with pick 19. Like the cut of his jib.
Twomey said on gettable that Holmes could slip all the way to a rookie pick.

Been reported that Geelong have an interest in drafting Marcus Herbert and Tobyn Murray from our vfl team. Apparently both players had medicals at the club, not really sure why they’d need that having trained at the club all year. I would imagine if we did pick one up it’d be a rookie pick and only one of them.
I wouldn’t mind Herbert on the list, he could really improve with time in the afl system.

Yes, but... there is something to say for the improvement implicit in transitioning from a part-time to a full-time footballer.I would have preferred to stick with Clohesy than draft Herbert or Murray. Same with Whiltshire for that matter.
Unlikely as if we redraft him it would cost us another $100k for the new contract. I think the only way we have to pay him out is if another club picks him up.I'm guessing that this KMF guy had his contract torn up and paid out. Hence 'delisted'.

When are the list lodgement dates? Does that impact things?
Well if this is correct.Unlikely as if we redraft him it would cost us another $100k for the new contract. I think the only way we have to pay him out is if another club picks him up.

Pretty sure point 4 would take those bonus payments back because they'd get paid match bonuses twice and that wpuld be unjust enrichmentWell if this is correct.
Point 2 is extremely important.
Because match payments are $4k
Delisting/Paying Out
Delisting is when you remove a player from the list, most commonly when their contract runs out and you don’t give them a new one. A team can delist a player with years left on their contract, which works as follows:
- They are removed from the list
- They get paid the remaining amount of their contract as if they had played every week (so 23 lots of match payments plus any other matches played bonuses)
- The amount paid out is counted against the salary cap in the year they’re paid out. So if a player has three years to go on a contract in 2025 and you delist them, you need to be able to afford to pay all three of those years in 2025.
- If another club then picks them up, the payout is reduced by the size of their new contract (“no unjust enrichment”)
Assuming he played 23 games at AFL level. And yep, you'd be correct.Pretty sure point 4 would take those bonus payments back because they'd get paid match bonuses twice and that wpuld be unjust enrichment
There will be some club desperate to jump back in. Trade the first pick out and then hope and prey we have an extra pick around 10 next year to trade with.
Our pick this year is in limbo land. Wells will have two obscure (but probably good) players in mind so pick numbers are irrelevant.
Draft sliders mean nothing to Geelong. Giants and Port are the same
Point 4 is the only thing that matters here for KMF. He is almost certainly staying with us as a rookie (very unlikely anyone else will nab him), so he is either getting a new contract which will match whatever is left on his current contract - or he is just seeing out his current contract (I dont know how that works) hence no payout or changes to TPP etc. He would be on minimum coin now.Well if this is correct.

#1 ruck would be niceCatters I have drawn Geelong for our mock draft. Any pressing list needs in terms of position?

I’ll see if West Coast will package up Tim Kelly for us.Ruck obviously but this isnt a great pool for that (imo). Since we only have 2 senior spots and 1 rookie spot we wont do much except best available.
But we need a bid bodied inside mid (someone more athletic than George stevens though), a small defender and we could possibly use a key forward (depends how much we rate some of the ones we drafted last year).
Don't need small forwards.
It might sound funny, but it's mostly as simple as best player available and literally anyone except Greeves.Catters I have drawn Geelong for our mock draft. Any pressing list needs in terms of position?
Draft sliders if history has taught us anything are a huge red flag. If anything they end up delisted and go nowhere. There will be some club desperate to jump back in. Trade the first pick out and then hope and prey we have an extra pick around 10 next year to trade with.
