Hey guys, as the thread title suggests, can you get free entry into Skilled?

I know Victorian AFL members who hold interstate club support can get free entry into Skilled, but do GFC AFL members enjoy this luxury?

Cheers.

If the answer is yes, than I'm going to get a GFC AFL support package in order to save $40 bucks or whatever the costs involved for the Geelong V Melbourne game in round 3.

Cheers.

When you become an AFL member you are given the option to support a team. You become counted as a member of your nominated team and a significant portion of your membership fee is given to your nominated club. (I quoted the AFL rulebook because I dont Know the amount)

I've become an AFL member (GFC club support) for the first time this season and I'm extremely excited.

It's the way to go IMHO. As jubjub mentioned, you're still giving money to GFC, still counted as an official member and still receive all the freebies/magazines/raffle tickets etc. I'm even keeping my same season reserved seat at Skilled. But I also get:

- Free entry into all NAB Cup games including the final
- 40 games of my choice at MCG/Telstra Dome (I always had a GFC Home 11 membership that didn't cover 'away' games in Melbourne, but the AFL membership will get me in for free to these games)
- Prime level 1 spot on the wing at these grounds if I want to pre-book a seat
- First two weeks of the finals free and the opportunity to purchase a ticket to the preliminary final if we're in it

As much as I hate stuffing the pockets of the AFL, I really think it's excellent value for money. My boyfriend has been an AFL member (Collingwood club support) for eight years and has just become a Full member this year. For those not in the know - it means he is now guaranteed a grand final ticket every single year, regardless of who is playing.

Oh, and to answer the original question by B-B-P: yes, AFL members with GFC club support get free entry into Skilled Stadium.

The problem is that it's only "general admission" - which means standing room on the terrace or one of the 2,500 free seats behind the goals at the city end (first come, first served - you have to be there hours before the game to nab one).

Skilled is so small it's not like other venues, you often can't call up during the week and book a seat. For obvious reasons our games there will be in even higher demand this season.

My dad and I have had reserved seats there for a couple of years and I would suspect that a lot of AFL GFC members would have the same.

Thats awesome fpm84. How much more are you paying to be a AFL member?
This is my first year and there's a $275 one-off joining fee for all new members. That's on top of the actual $310 yearly membership fee (for an adult membership, concession ones are less than $200).

Pretty good, I reckon. I'll be paying around $600 this year but in monthly installments - around $50 a month - but only $310 per year after that.

When I consider the money I won't have to pay at the gate for Geelong away games and finals plus the opportunity to go to dozens of other random games (ie ANZAC Day, Queen's B'day) it's well worth it.

Your in the same boat as me fpm84, i also am a first year AFL member.

This package is a money saver, not only for the reasons mentioned above, but also because they AFL also offer cheap seats to the cricket in the members reserve.

I'm going to be in footy paradise al NAB Cup, 40 H&A matches and finals ll for FREE woopie :D
