I dont know about anyone else but I was ******* ropable after seeing that in the cinema. Critics at the time thought it was decent enough but **** was I angry when the credits rolled. Only one other film has done that to me at the cinema
I didn't even watch it.

And I did a Grade 9 religion assignment on the Blues Brothers version of "Everybody Needs Somebody".

RE teacher: "So what is this song saying?"

Me: "Umm... Everybody needs somebody to love?"

RE teacher: "So how does God fit into that?"

Me: "Umm... that includes loving God? Ummm... no man is an island?"

RE teacher: "OK. Sit down. Next?"

In hindsight it was a pretty shitty attempt at the assignment. Then again, I didn't believe in God so the whole thing was dumb in my eyes.

I remember not even knowing what Back to the Future was until we went out to the cinema on our Christmas trip down to visit rellos in Melbourne.

The first I had heard of it was standing in front of the cinema on... Bourke St?

Now we follow big movies before they are even written, and make up reasons why we like or hate it before we even see it. How weird is that?

wait are you saying people will hate the movie before it even opens? AND people will love it before it opens?

the power of the internet. nowadays with so many blockbusters based on comics it simply fuels premovie discussion and theory. people will always have opinions about this and that. that's why forums are so successful and profitable. everyone wants a say.

For more people than ever before, expectations seem set in stone before they even see the movie. That used to be the ground owned by religious nuts who were rightly castigated for hating, say, The Last Temptation of Christ without ever having seen it.

Yeah I grew up in the country when BTTF was released, didn't even know it existed until we moved again in late 89 and caught it on TV.

I get more out of a movie these days when I know very little about it and still looks appealing. John Wick was one of those.

And you're better off not watching it, and I'm better off having gone through the public education system. :p

John Wick, there's a movie that fell apart in the second act. Started so promising.

“The general idea is that it’s absolutely threatening to admit you’re wrong,” says political scientist Brendan Nyhan, the lead researcher on the Michigan study. The phenomenon — known as “backfire” — is “a natural defense mechanism to avoid that cognitive dissonance.”
So if a studio gets the advance publicity wrong, perhaps even seeing the movie (if it ends up being good) will not change someone's mind.

If your particular Reddit gang decides months in advance that the movie is crap and you are a nu-male cuck if you like it, you are not likely to change your mind.

Orson Scott Card referred to someone who reads a book with preconceived ideas that its crap as a 'hostile reading'.

Don't know if there's a term for a hostile watch of a movie or how ingrained it is with movie goers. I've watched films with preconceived negative ideas and came away pleasantly surprised.

Got dragged along to it today. All in all, pretty decent yet unremarkable.

The ghostbuster quartet were all pretty good (and I'm not a huge fan of Melissa McCarthy or Leslie Jones). Hemsworth was the worst part for me, just pretty lame.

I think kids will really like it, but really it was just quite inoffensive and by the numbers.

I won't be seeing it because I don't like Melissa McCarthy and dont find her to be funny.

I guess that makes me sexist even though I refuse to see films with Jeff Goldblum, Russell Crowe and Tom Cruise in them because I don't like them either

You hate Jeff Goldblum?

I never thought I'd meet that guy.

anyone going in with preconceived hate for some of the actors wont enjoy it. Those going for a laugh and a bit of fun in the spirit of Ghostbusters and not Schindlers List will enjoy it

i wanted to like it... i really did. the only thing I laughed at for the whole movie was Hemsworth's gag about his dog, Mike Hat. Thats literally the only time I laughed. Thought Kate McKinnon's character was ill defined and all over the shop and Leslie Jones was just irritating. All the cameos sucked and were completely phoned in and the main villain was completely devoid of personality/ interest. This movie sucked hard.

Saw it yesterday with no pre-conceived attitude toward it, (wasn't a huge fan of original anyway). It had its moments, kids loved it and I had a few chuckles. Good chemistry between the leads, but McKinnon stole the movie. 6/10.

Saw it Friday and what a steaming pile of crap. Was really bad. None of the main characters were really likeable. The 'Weird one' had the most potential but then she was weird for no reason whatsoever so not sure what was going on there. Leslie Jones I found annoying and other 2 were good.

Hemsworth was the best part, playing the idiot hot male. At times he was too dumb but still funny and only good bit of the movie. As for the villain, no real reason as to why he was doing it or how he came to know about the ghosts and how to bring them out.

Everyone in the cinema gave a good sigh when it was over, not sure anyone enjoyed it

Movie was ok. McKinnon easily the best and funnier than any character in any ghostbusters film. The other three, however, played fairly unmemorable characters without any interesting personality quirks. Some of the humour was immature teenage boy stuff early on in the film but it improved from there. Far more humour then the original movies which was a plus. Hemsworth was way too dumb. it would of been funnier if it was more realistic. The ending of the movie was way too quick and easy. The music and atmosphere, which was really the only thing that made the originals great, was awful or non existent. No chanting of ghostbusters by a crowd of New Yorkers as they rocked up for the final battle really brought the movie down in the end. Special effects of course were much better.

Overall 6 out of 10. Which is about on par with ghostbusters 2 but not as good as the original.
