Movie Ghostbusters 3

That they tried to milk Ghostbusters as a new cash cow but failed :D
Ninety percent of movies these days are milking other products, whether they be old movies, books, tv shows or comic books. How is this any different? there are basically no original adventure or action movies coming out anymore. They are all just milking pre existing brands. Do you hate all these movies?

Hated Robocop
Hated Total Recall

I hate reboots/remakes in general - didn't even like Al Pacino's Scarface (COME AT ME!!) :D

Have long known that Hollywood have run out of ideas. Even the superhero movies are shit these days (Avengers AOU, Civil War and Batman v Superman being lack lustre!).

Fair enough then. I think the war has been lost though. Nearly all big budget movies milk off brand names now and can't see it ever changing.

These days comic books that only a few thousand people will ever read are published so the intellectual property can be flogged off for movies/TV.

Movie was ok. McKinnon easily the best and funnier than any character in any ghostbusters film. The other three, however, played fairly unmemorable characters without any interesting personality quirks. Some of the humour was immature teenage boy stuff early on in the film but it improved from there. Far more humour then the original movies which was a plus. Hemsworth was way too dumb. it would of been funnier if it was more realistic. The ending of the movie was way too quick and easy. The music and atmosphere, which was really the only thing that made the originals great, was awful or non existent. No chanting of ghostbusters by a crowd of New Yorkers as they rocked up for the final battle really brought the movie down in the end. Special effects of course were much better.

Overall 6 out of 10. Which is about on par with ghostbusters 2 but not as good as the original.

I dont think its as much as they have totally run out of ideas, but the fact that Remakes/reboots and franchises bring in the big bucks and are way safer bets at the box office.

This is a great short rant on the state of movie at the moment

It's not that great of achievement. The original movies have very few laughs in them. As a kid you didn't even realise they were supposed to be comedies.

Say what? Every time Bill Murray is on screen is ****ing hilarious. As a kid you don't realise because alot of the comedy is so subtle and so good it goes over your head.

The 2nd one you maybe have a point, but the original? Nah.

As a kid I realised it was horror/comedy/sci fi/action movie. How is it as an adult you realised the movie was made purely as a comedy?

The original was loaded with laughs. Such brilliant, subtle humour that I really had no idea about as a kid watching it.

But it was a bit like The Simpsons in its glory days. There's plenty to laugh at as a kid but rewatching it again when you're older allows you to fully understand the one liners etc.

Classic movie, lines like when Venkman says "cmon Ray, everyone has 2 mortgages on their house these days" always gets me.

But for me nothing beats "I've seen shit that will turn you white". I watched it again about 12 months ago and still lost my shit at this.

exactly. as young persons it was all about ghosts and killing them. everyone (boys) at school wanted to rock proton packs, and made up plays about busting ghosts to perform to the rest of the year level. the good old days.

also, the first ghost they encountered in the library was scary

As expected, pure junk!!! Wtf is going on in Hollywood theses days... I can't remember anything coming out in the last 10 years (maybe D9, Inception and a sprinkle of others) that had any originality and not pimped up old storylines...

Xmen FC is about the only reboot id consider giving a tick too but even the follow up to that was botched IMO

Is it a safety thing or has real creativity died a horrible death due to bean counting?

And when Dana opens the fridge. Even preview audiences who didn't see what was in the fridge freaked them out. Great moment.

i just watched that scene again. i dont feel it is on par with library ghost. but can sympathise.

imagine GB was released now, trailer after trailer also released. no doubt it wouldve shown what was inside the fridge, drawing parallels to bvs showing WW rocking up.

Still creeps me out to this day
Just like the woman being turned into a robot in Superman III *shudder*

i remember that!! also frightening.

Ghost in the library was one of the scariest things from my childhood.

i cant say i feel sorry for you because every kid shat themselves then. except the brave ones who weren't.

Going to see this tonight so I can judge for myself.

Not much out to be honest. It was between this or Independence Day for the time we wanted.

what a time to be alive

Both. Studios are so risk-averse now that they're addicted to the sure thing, which usually means sequels of a bankable franchise or, in the last few years, remakes/boots of well known titles.

Add to that the fact that every blockbuster now has to be PG-13 to allow for the widest possible theatrical release audience, its not hard to see why we're constantly served up tripe. Imagine trying to get something like Predator or Die Hard made today, would be impossible.

5 out of 10 is about right. For all the negative comments about it, it's really just dumb fun that can't be taken too seriously.

I enjoyed some of the effects and references to the original. The cameos as well. McCarthy wasn't as goofy as she normally is. She kinda played the smart one actually. Wiig was her normal self. I was afraid Jones would really overplay it but she wasn't too bad. Terrible actor though. McKinnon was the best. She's probably the funniest on SNL and her expressions still get me.

Hemsworth was the worst. I get why they went for a character like that but it could have been done better.

Not really any jumps or scary moments but entertaining with enough laughs. There were flat moments though and the final sequence was weak.

Interesting points mate... then you get an anomaly like Dead Pool ( R rated ) spin off, 708 million... GB3 really annoyed me for some reason...

Saw it last night... wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed it and it had its moments... not as serious as the original and I did laugh.
Hemsworth got a bit annoying after a while with his dumb antics. I agree that the villain was too weak.

I liked the cameos from the original stars and they each got a cheer in the theater I was in (would have loved to have seen Moranis as well), but still would have preferred a "passing the torch" type sequel with the original stars in their old roles, or at least have them come together in some kind of reunion scene with the all-girl team... was probably considered but nixed out of respect for Ramis?
