I'll believe in ghosts when there is genuine, scientifically based evidence of their existence.

Sorry to those of you who voted yes, but "witness testimony" and grainy, blurry images in photos do nothing to convince me.

That's fair enough I reckon, although I still believe in ghosts. I used to be the sort that believed all things supernatural. - Aliens, bigfoot, ect.. They all seem stupid now though. Although, scientifically speaking, those things would seem more logically possible than ghosts. When you look into it though they're all based on cultural anxieties, and reside in too convenient a location. Like why do aliens only land in the US? Ghosts on the other hand are a global phenomenon and have been reported for centuries. Having said that, there are constants: People die, night is scary, and people can personify any image.

I reckon the strongest form of proof is also the weakest. - Media. It seems like ghosts can best be detected on a different wavelength to normal hearing and sight. Photography and sound recordings are the best source. But these are things that can be manipulated. So what form of proof is acceptable then? Would you believe me if I told you a ghost story? Would you believe me if I recorded it on camera? I bet you wouldn't. You would only believe it if you saw it yourself. But then, who would believe you?...

That's exactly right, as is the case with almost anything. People won't believe something unless they see it themselves.

As I've already said, I'm open minded with ghosts. I don't 100% believe in them, but I don't not believe. I've had a few odd things happen to me, but I haven't really seen anything conclusive.

I'll only believe if I see something that gives me no other reason but to believe that I just saw a ghost.

Another story for you (again, a story probably won't swing your vote) but the older brother of a friend of mine (in his 30's, married). His wife's uncle (who he hadn't met) had died. So obviously they went to the funeral. Afterwards they all went back to someones house to have lunch, you know the usual get together afterwards. While he was there, he was sitting down by himself when a guy sat next to him. They started talking (I forget what he told me they talked about, don't realy think it was important). After a while, the man walked away. My friends bro didn't think anything of it, until he was in the room with his father in-law (deceased brother) and the deceased wife. They were going through old photos of the deceased, reminiscing and he saw a photo of the guy he was talking to earlier on.

He swears on it. He didn't tell anyone at the time, as he didn't wanna cause any drama but he has no doubt that he was speaking to a ghost that day.

I don't. If one ever presents itself I may, but I highly doubt that.

Believe in aliens though. I don't believe they've ever come to earth but I believe they exist elsewhere...

I can see why people are unsure about this stuff, as I am about alot of things. I don't believe in the concept of religion, I do believe in Aliens, there are so many other planets out there so far away that it would be stupid to not think other life forms exist.

Ghosts though...I dunno.

I've had some weird experiences.

The first was on the farm when I was getting the cows in, and I looked up towards the dairy and saw my dead grandpa looking out the window. He then moved away to the right of the window and I never saw the vision again. I never told anyone because I thought I was seeing things.

Then about a year later mum was getting the cows. She told me she thought she saw cows everywhere up at the hay so she sprinted the 300m to where the hay was to stop them, and they wern't there. When she got back to the track, she looked up and the window and swears she saw Grandpa. This is after I didn't tell anyone. Grandpa was against women being on the farm, so we figure it could be his little joke.

My brother then came in as mum was telling the story and asked if it was the 'creepy window'. He said he was always scared of the window and never knew why.

In an unrelated story, we inherited a Combivan of a dead uncle, and a week after he died, it's lights came on, the engine went on, and then it just died. It never worked again.

I also got up one morning and told my parents of a dream I had where someone was standing on my chest for a while, and then floated over my bed. My brother then got up and asked if anyone had been in his room. No one had but he said he saw a shadow go past his alarm clock, blocking it from view for a while before going into the wall, exactly where my bed head would have been on the other side.

I don't know how to explain some of this stuff, but I don't know what to believe. Other stuff has happened with weird shadows, but that might have been tricks of the eyes. Either way I felt petrified after it.

I just don't know.

I do :thumbsu:

Why? Well at home taps have turned on by themselves (haven't for a while), my cupboard door used to have a tendency to open by itself even when a chair was put against it, had something on the end of my bed once like someone was sitting on it and when I turned the light on no one was there. Strange but surprisingly not scary. The one that confused me the most was when I was inside with no windows open, no wind and the door to the bathroom (which was behind me and is now a sliding door) slammed shut. Also my old room which is now the spare room always made strange noises and always has a near cold like feeling, the house it quite old though.

Maybe maybe not this is a result of ghost but what really made me believe in ghosts was when I was at my grandparents old place (was kinda creepy with lots of dark spots :p) the taps seemed to turn on by themselves a lot and ( I was only little) I went to investigate and caught a lady in a black dress at the tap but you could see through her, so she must have been a ghost!

I'm not sure.... I have never seen one & I'm not really sure if I want to:o
But my sister has.... twice....

1. At our first house, it was a rather old house. anyway.... My sister was in bed & our cat was laying on her bed. She woke up in the middle of the night & looked over to where the cat was laying & there was a 'ghost' or someone sitting on the end of her bed patting the cat..... She just pulled the covers over her eyes..... it gives me goosebumps just thinking about it:o

2. At our 2nd house, the night before christmas. Our grandma was staying with us (her husband passed away some time ago), in my room. I was on the floor in my sister's room. During the night my sister woke up & looked towards the door & she said she could see the top half (about shoulders up) of our grandad. He was looking at her & he turned his head to the side, staring at her. She just hid under the blankets.....

I have also heard many stories from friends but I can't remember them well. I think there might be something out there.....

We used to have ghosts at our old house.
We were only young at the time, about 6 or 7.
They were like black shadows of adults, just walking around the room, usually 5 or 6 at the same time. They were there every single night. My brother and i both agree that there were ghosts at that house even till this day. We eventually moved into the same room with bunks and we could both see them. They didn't interact with us or anything, or even seem as though were paying attention to us being there at all. I still remember being shit scared though, every single night I just layed flat on my back with my eyes shut until i fell asleep. Sometimes they came right up to the side of the bed. I remember one night i woke up feeling dizzy and sick, so dizzy in fact that i couldn't walk properly and i had to crawl out to my parents room, walking through all the ghosts.

Even with these experiences EVERY single night for years I still can't see how such things can exist. I'm the kind of guy who laughs at Religion and Gods yet with these ghosts it is too hard to ignore the evidence. It's strange. If someone asked me if I beleived in ghosts, I would say no, even though I have seen them.

It was at this point when I stopped reading your post.
Why?
I don't care if you don't believe me, but just because i was 6 or 7 at the time it doesn't mean that my eyes were playing tricks on me. I saw them every single night for about 3 years. Thats over 1000 days, and there was about 5 or 6 every single night, so thats about 5000 sightings at least. To say that not even 1 was real out of 5000 is a load of rubbish. I know what i saw and so does my brother.

That's a bit hard to believe but okay.
Yeah I agree.

No offence scooterb. But I just find it hard to believe that so many of these ghosts just happened to be wondering your house non-stop. I mean, one or two, ok. But five or six? A bit farfetched.

But hey as I already said, seeing is believing.

None taken. But if you believe that there could be one or two, that obviously means you believe in them. Therefore i don't see why you couldn't believe five could be there at a time. I don't expect anyone to believe me, but I know what i saw and so does my brother. We brought up with my dad about a year ago and he didn't really laugh it off, more like he shrugged it off.
From what i saw, those 'haunting' ghosts don't exist. All i saw was a few dark shadows in the corner of the room doing their own thing and just fidgeting around with each other. Ever since we moved to our new house i've never seen anything at all since.

On these 'Aliens'

Wouldn't the abduction stories be more believable if they took took the specimen from . . say from Melbourne and dropped them of in . . I don't know . . Turkey? Why would they return someone to the near or exact spot in which they found them? If bother return them at all? I doesn't make any sense

Universities don't return lab rats to the wild after they test them do they? Why would beings that have mastered interstellar travel bother?

I work permanent nightshift in various metropolitan hospitals and Iv'e heard some strange things and seen some odd things. Where there hauntings or ghost I cannot say for certain.
Ghosts or not, I cannot conclusively prove, but I certainly beleive in the paranormal. A lot of things people think they see or here can be eliminated by normal explanation. Sometimes not, and that to me falls into paranormal. There are quite a few co workers of dofferent professions that I have spoken to where I workl that speak of similar expereinces. I personally, beleive in the paranormal.

It's probably just your imagination when tired doing shifts, especially in a hospital where death is common.

My last house in Perth I rented was built in the '80's, and strangely the door leading into the hallway would regularly slam shut if I left it open, even on days when there was NO breeze and most of the other doors shut. I'm a jumpy person and lived alone but it never bothered me, I just figured it was the house design causing unusual air flow. But lets say I lived in a creepy, creaky hundred year old house one might have different perception, just on what people fear?

My point is that people are already pre-programmed to think of these paranormal explanations for the unusual due to growing up with ghost/UFO stories from kids, and 'documentaries' about the subject - rather than even bothering to think of infinitely more likely 'earthbound' explanations. Human nature. I'm not saying that it is not a possibility, just by far the least likely. And of course these a rather more interesting so people want to believe.

Another strange thing about 2 years ago. (Had a big night out a couple of days with minimal sleep before so maybe that was to blame) Went to sleep for about 15 minutes and 'awoke' to see a bizarre creature in the corner ceiling of the room, looking at me. In my mind I seriously though it was real, not a dream. Then the next thing I knew I was standing up outside my room almost yelling. Obviously I experienced a hallucination of some sort and quite unnerving, but I could easily see how certain people could think of something like that as paranormal.

I see your point, it's just five or six together at the exact same time. Seems odd. Did they interact with one another in any shape or form? Or did they appear at other times besides night?

And to change topic, I recently got a TV in my room to play my Wii on (I watch TV on a HDTV USB Dongle). Even though I believe it to be full of shit, I can't stop thinking about ITC (watch Spiricom on www.jkcinema.com or Google it, whatever). Basically it's some belief where ghosts can appear through TVs even though they are off. The TV is looking right at me as I type this, and faces me when I'm in bed too. Even though I don't believe in ITC, it can still be rather un-nerving, which I guess backs up what Kram just said.
