Fair enough.

41 wins and 42 losses and 1 tie in his coaching career
Never coached a team to a finals win
Last coached in 2015
In 2015 it was 5 wins and 14 loses including 110 point lost to StKilda and 112 points to Adelaide (StKilda finished 14th and Adelaide 7th)
As far as I am aware he has done no coaching or coaching courses since 2015
The game plan came under criticism for lacking dare and adventure, but they also conceded more than 100 points on six occasions. It culminated in the sacking of James Hird with three games to play.

Yep, best person to take your club "to the promised land"
these are my concerns also.

Love the salty meltdown in VFL-land.

If the Club were going to appoint a HC who kept us out of flag contention all the VFL-types would be congratulating us.

Instead, we just get the smell of fear and panic drifting up from VFL land as they know that Hird has the ability take us to the promised land.

After watching most Carlton games this year (I have a fairly large bet on them to make the 8), I can say that Carlton remind me of the 2017-2019 Giants. They have a tough contested team in the middle, mids and halfbacks prefer to counterattack rather than restructure, strong marking targets who are surrounded by crumbing dynamic smalls., and they go back into their shells at Q4 but still end up holding on.

Thanks for your concern.

Take out 2015 and his coaching record is 36-1-28 and was tracking upwards, no point at all including 2015, the damage had been done. His last season pre-scandal was 66% winning record, most clubs would take that from a 3rd year coach with a list a lot worse than our current one.
Chris Fagan had not served as an assistant coach in 9 years before taking over the Brisbane job, seems to be going ok.

Not a shock given how he spoke on 360 last week. I'm guessing the AFL have given an indication that Tassie are getting a team.

That’s a clever answer though. That was a clear “I don’t want the focus to be on me, they still have a season to run”

Of course he will take the call when it comes :)

Having advocated hard for Clarkson, I now find it more tempting to go with someone untried with great reputation, James Hird OR Don Pyke.

Having someone untried in place will demand a lower salary and hence HOPEFULLY able to bolster the support around them in the form of high-end assistant coaches and more room in the soft cap. Burns, Caracella, Yze, Harvey all in the mix.

Hird would be good for the club for media exposure and more eyes on the club as well as the redemption story narrative. I would hope he would take on less money in order to have a good team around him. Also the high end talent we have on our list seem to view him for the player he was and the aura he carries which hopefully would elevate the high end talent we have in our team to elite.

Don Pyke I feel is probably my most preferred option. He carries with him the most experience (not including Clarkson) and a great record in getting the Crows to high end ladder positions on the ladder. Leon was only able to get a top 4 finish once in his entire tenure. In 4 years at the Crows Pike was able to get the crows to 16 wins, 15 wins, 12 wins & 10 wins. Also there is the added bonus of Pike already being in Sydney.

Clarkson as big a coup as it would be in terms of exposure to the Giants and possibly able to bring the big names along in terms of players and staff, the fact is the cost is going to be astronomical so unless the AFL are willing to put up a lot of the capital in order to land him it will leave the Giants without much left in their soft cap to fix the gaping holes we have in our fitness and conditioning staff & assistance coaches.

It is going to be really interesting to see what way the board & the AFL go with this decision. A lot is riding on this appointment.

No, you must have misread my grammar. It says someone untried, Hird or Pyke.
That to me denotes:
a) someone untried
b) Hird
c) Pyke

the Toffees, the Bays.
Yep, thought the same. They don't give a hoot about the team, just what it can do for the VFL teams. Probably say the same about AFL House.
There's a little bit in that every time someone talks about the Ferrari. What they're sort of saying is;
You took our top Vic players, players who would have made our Vic teams better, and you've not won a Grannie. What was the point even letting you have them.

Any signs a Stevie J? I didn’t pay much attention to the 1/4 breaks but no mention of him and just if he has been awol all year or just not attracting the cameras

They showed him talking to one of the talls during one of the establishing shots right before the game.

Yes, he's definitely there.
He takes the warm ups and tends to go straight to the playing group at breaks.
He still likes the ball in his hands...

SJ was very deep in conversation with Hogan immediately prior to the pre-game ceremony.

Hogan came flying out of the blocks in Q1 so I took that as a positive.
