OK, all. I've added a poll to see which of the 16 candidates named in the Fox AFL article is your preferred coach. (Not necessarily who you think will get the job - who you want.)

Was toying around a bit with what a best 22 would look like over the next couple weeks once we start to get a few blokes back, didn't include Hopper or Daniels but they'd make their way in some how, Stone probably gets in too but not sure how far away he is. Got HH down back not exactly sure how long that'll last but the results were pretty positive this week, maybe once Phil comes back we see him moved up forward again, although it's hard to expect Phil to be as good as he was at the start of the year coming off a major hamstring. I do really like Sproule but I think Flynn gives too much as a ruck and enough as a big bodied forward to warrant selection over Sproule. If we start to see Riccardi dip back down against, then Sproule could play over him. Not sure how Lloyd fits into all of this for McVeigh we have no idea if he values him or not, he might be a lock for the 22 like he was with Leon or he might be someone he sees a bit more time in the 2s, McVeigh talks about wanting good ball users and Callaghan is certainly that so would think he's in.

Maybe, but chances are they're all looking for new jobs next year anyway. It's rare for an incoming coach to retain more than one or two assistant, if that.

Good article that makes Important observations.

For me, it adds more weight to the view that the Eagles game was the ‘soft launch’ of our new coaching structure.

You can also look at it another way.

What if the Club met with MM, JH and DS and said we’ll pay each of you 2/3rds of a HC salary to co-coach the club for 2.5 years starting today.

In that timeframe we believe we can be a Top 4 side and potentially win the flag

Neither of these three coaches is a lock for a HC role at another club.

However, if they succeed with the Giants, they are a lock to become a HC either with us or elsewhere.

For each of them in their respective circumstances, that is a very attractive opportunity.

The bonus is you get to work with people you personally trust.

More I think about it the less interested I become in Clarko, I'm sort of worried it's not going to work out and feels a lot like Malthouse going to Carlton. His contract would be really big so the soft cap would be stretched thin and with the high cost of living in Sydney we'd probably miss out on support staff, assistants, recruiters etc. Sam Mitchell has done such a good job this year, they're so exciting and fun to watch and really competitive with largely the same list Clarko had last year. Going with a first time new assistant, would take up way less of the soft cap and would give us the ability to surround the new coach with experienced assistants and more support staff. I'm sure I'd talk myself into it (pretty easily) if Clarko is the guy but at the moment just think I'd rather take a chance with a new guy.

Should be a good week for the boys to recharge a bit and get some time away, Taranto and some of the others headed off to Fitzroy island for a bit. After a pretty hectic few weeks at the club, hopefully next week they can continue to implement some of the flashes that we've seen the past 2 weeks. Good way to ease into things after the bye with North Melbourne right before their bye so it could be a good chance to pick up 4 points and some handy % points. Been nothing but encouraged from what McVeigh has shown the last 2 weeks.

Eva Announced in Coaching Acceleration Program

Alicia Eva has been awarded a position in the Women's Coaching Acceleration Program.

GIANTS AFLW captain Alicia Eva has been announced as one of nine successful applicants in the AFL Women’s Coaching Acceleration Program.

As part of the program Eva will be employed by the GIANTS for a minimum two-year period between now and 2025, and involved in a formal mentorship with a senior men’s AFL coach and receive her Level 3 AFL Coaching Accreditation as a minimum.

Coaching is a space that Eva has been involved in for several years. She currently works as the Backline Coach for the GIANTS’ VFL side, a Development Coach for the GIANTS Academy and in June last year became the first female to join the NAB AFL Academy coaching panel and coached the boys AFL Academy team with Tarkyn Lockyer.
