OK, all. I've added a poll to see which of the 16 candidates named in the Fox AFL article is your preferred coach. (Not necessarily who you think will get the job - who you want.)

A desire to reside in Sydney.

Living in Sydney is the best…if you have money. He will live in a mansion near the water and coach a very good list with full control, without the Melbourne Fleet Street riding his every move…life will be good.

That’s definitely valid. Understand one child is in the Gold Coast and the others in Melbourne so there would probably be a preference to stay here. Word is his management approached Bombers but they aren’t all in favour of moving current coach, we are doing everything we can to get him. Interesting times.

I find it odd… if I knew I didn’t want to move I wouldn’t go for an interview.

Probably just more about preferences. He wants a good list so most of the Melbourne options barring the Bombers (if it is an option) don’t really appeal.

I reckon Clarko would be mad to go there, if his desire is to win a premiership. They're unlikely to compete for a flag for years IMHO. But he's an ex-Roo player, so if he wants to go there to lift them out of the doldrums, so be it.

In that case, I'd opt for Don Pyke. He's had first grade coaching experience that didn't end well, and done well as an assistant subsequently. He's in Sydney, so he's one that we know will not reject us because of where we are. He's added to Swans' tactics and ball movement - two areas that we're in desperate need of a revamp, so hopefully he'd be able to take our talent and turn it into results.

Adam Yze is probably my alternative - mainly because he's untried, and I think that's a risk for us.

I'd be surprised if he was already locked and loaded .
That said, I can see a clear appeal for Clarko to go there, his former club, a young list which he had already said had potential. His pass mark is pretty low, if he gets them competitive he has done a good job. Could very easily be his first choice.
If he comes to us, unless he wins the comp, he probably is considered a failure.
Leon made 1 grand final, 3 prelims and had wins in 5 finals series, many think he is a Muppet who can't coach.

This is not right. Clarko has said he is only coming back if he can win it. Rules out North.

He (well the team as whole) hasn't really helped his case for the top gig in the last 2 weeks.

Indeed, I think he's blown any chance he had ... unless every other coach drops out.

Easy enough if it's Clarkson. If it's an assistant at one of the finals-bound clubs (e.g. Pyke @ Sydney or Yze @ Melbourne), it won't be until their team is eliminated or wins the GF.

A negative of bringing in Clarko is how much of our soft cap he's expected to take up and it would be difficult to keep or land some of the best football support staff like how Peter Burge has just left Richmond with how much Dimma would be making.
