Do you think Gibbs will be an Adelaide player by the end of this trade period?

Nah, don't go as hard as Carlton did then all of sudden go into retreat mode and make it easy to get him next time around, he'll have devalued no doubt but it will take a 1st pick or a 2nd and a borderline best 22 player to loosen him away still IMO
I'm not making any guess on what the price is, I just think it makes sense from Carlton's point of view to work it out early so it's not a distraction for Gibbs. It makes Gibbs not feel like he is being held prisoner and lets him concentrate on football. If they know he's going regardless, it makes sense for them to minimise the damage.

Robbo reckons GC and Geelong would have already worked out the GAJ trade, I wonder if the AFC and Carlton have too and that's why Carlton have now publicly accepted he will ask to leave again at the end of the year.

It would make sense from Carlton's point of view, because from Gibbs' point of view the better he plays this year, the harder it would be for him to get home, so he loses some motivation to give 110%. So if Carlton were able to say to Gibbs "we've agreed to a price with the AFC regardless of how you perform this year", it would put him in the best mindset to play the best football he can play in 2016. The AFC also doesn't want him having a blinder of a year and skyrocketing his price so it would make sense for them to lock in a price as early as possible.
I'm confused - if a deal has already been struck you think it will or won't mean Gibbs plays at his best?

Wonder if Carlton could use Wigg. Dont see a future for him at the crows. He was a 2nd round pick wasnt he and he goes ok.

Gibbs for Wigg and a third?

If I was Gibbs and I wanted to get traded at the end of the season, after a trade not being able to get done because my club wanted too much last season, I would be concerned that the better I play the harder it will be for me to get home. So if Carlton have conceded he is going to ask to leave and they are willing to let him leave then it makes sense for them to get the deal sorted out as early as possible so they can go to Gibbs and say "we've already agreed to a trade price with the AFC, so if you still want to leave at the end of they year, the deal will be done. All you need to worry about this season is playing the best football you can for the Carlton football club and you can plan your future with certainty"

Anyone that believes he is worth 2 firsts in general terms is insane, my concern is our premiership window is ticking and we need an edge in the mid to take advantage of it, so yes paying overs for a quality player that actually wants to come to Adelaide may be worth the risk
We are still in a window when we nab him at years end IMO.

I saw him by Rioli's side as a couple of midfield stoppages sorted themselves out. I was interested enough in this to watch it unfold and see Rioli then run free and Dmac not go with him. He's either shit at it or Rioli was just the nearest match up at that stoppage.
Yes that mirrors what I saw on a couple of occasions also. I turned to the person I was with and said "Mackay on Rioli, this could get ugly" and 5 seconds later they were nowhere near each other.

You are inclined to say Wigg is surplus to needs. From what I've seen from his pre season I'm inclined to agree. His left foot is off radar. Not sure where he fits. There's no value as he hasn't broken into first 22.

So not worth 2 first rounders but you'd pay it anyway? Last missing premiership link we purchased by overpaying was Carey, how did that pan out for us? It's pretty simple, overpaying for a percieved missing link is a road to failure, no club has tasted success by doing it.

They'll be able to sell it based upon mental wellbeing. "Bryce did his best for his club and family, but it's clear that he needs to put his family first and we will certainly facilitate and encourage that." Bryce is a cruiser, I'll be shocked if his year is much better than the average of his first 2 games. Carlton will likely be in a good position to look like they give a shit come trade time. But they're mostly just completely incompetent at every level.

The 10-12 year missing piece, not really buying that. Really went all in by bringing in a 21 year old KPF did the dogs. Seriously, that's a name that your side of the discussion needs to put behind them. It's not even close to being a missing piece or bust trade like 2 firsts for Gibbs would have been.

They paid massive money for a guy who was doing nothing and gave up a first and their captain, that's going all in.

Fair enough but what do you mean by this - "The AFC also doesn't want him having a blinder of a year and skyrocketing his price so it would make sense for them to lock in a price as early as possible" ?

Doesn't that mean the Crows should avoid enter into a deal early? Better to let Bryce feel uncertain and frustrated to lower his price come October?

(I'm being pedantic, I know)

It's a gamble either way for us, a bit like a fixed or variable home loan, but knowing it's sorted now allows us to continue planning for next years salary cap and for the next trade period. We'd be hoping Gibbs is the type of player who plays well regardless of other distractions, Carlton would just want him to play well.

Shits and giggles.

Trading in a gun 21 year old may help you now, but doesn't mortgage your future. He'll still be there in 5 years. Probably playing much better.
What if he was no good and you are paying $1M a year on long term contract plus giving away a first and your captain who was worth a first?
