Do you think Gibbs will be an Adelaide player by the end of this trade period?

This is not going to end well for Carlton! If what I am hearing is true then we will be here again in 12 months time but I am certain 1st round pick is not going to be on the table.

Time to move on and concentrate on the draft and free agency period next year which seems to have been our plan all along.
Was thinking this last night.

He will be 29 then (for the 2018 season for all the dipshits that want to debate it). Will hardly be worth a second rounder.

It's really disappointing but some people here are getting carried away. Do people realise that when a player signs a contract COMMITTING to something for 5 years then the other club is within their rights to force them to honour that? I mean yes its playing hardball by Carlton but they are more than within their rights to do so. I for one don't want to give them 2 first round picks for Gibbs. I've got no doubt they took this approach with us due to giving up Betts, Sauce etc for not much in recent times so had a point to prove with their supporters that they don't just roll over for Adelaide.

As for Lyons? I feel sorry for him but ultimately maybe the club doesn't want to need to lock him in for 2+ years when they can hold back the funds for other things next year? There's any number of possibilities there. I certainly agree Thommo needed to be delisted rather than given one more go around regardless of his contract.

I don't think the picture is as bleak as all that, there's plenty of improvement to come from the Crouches with another pre season and hopefully next year we try some other players through the mid to add pace like Knight.

All in all it's still a disappointing trade period but it's not the end of the world the way some are posting.

Can you apologise for your classless unprofessional list manager too plz?
Mate get over it. Gibbs singed a 5 year contract and wanted to break it before the half way mark. He is not worth 2 first rounders, so that's it. We did what we could with out being stupid about it. Time to move on.

Put yourself in Carlton's shoes before you have a complete meltdown.

well we sure are the perfect club for you, just don't expect any GF appearances and you're in for a great time.

unfortunately though our midfield is our glaring weakness and we've traded out a decent best 22 mid for peanuts and we're going to start a 34 year old in the middle all season so don't pencil top 8 in just yet.
You talk about JL laughing.
GC are absolutely no hope of making a GF next year.

We are an outside chance.
Id rather the outside chance than absolutely no hope.

But hey if you're so off AFC, go support Carlton or GC....see how that works out for ya.

Good clubs would have found a way. Hawthorn would have found a way to get it done without giving up what they could not bear. Geelong would have got it done, Sydeny would have got it done. This is why Adelaide and Carlton have been shit for so long.
Don't lump us in with your rabble.

What else was on offer? No one wanted Rockliff - that tells you something. The other mids all pretty much went to Victoria and no where else. What are we supposed to do about that?
Continue to sit still and hope someone else will nominate us instead of actively going out and chasing players?

Like F me, we lost Danagerfield last year and it's been clear Thompson has been on his last legs and what have we done about it? Absolutely nothing at all. From what Reid said, we were going to the draft until Gibbs said he'd like to return home to Adelaide. We've had a whole year to try and fill the void of Dangerfield and the drop off of Thompson and yet we've done nothing at all outside of trading away a best 22 midfielder in Lyons for nothing.
