Both clubs have been posturing. Today's announcement of "talks" in merely preparing the public for a trade. (This is all opinion!!! FYI).

I think it will have to be 2 x 1st with a second coming back next year. That way Carlton get their 2 firsts (like we 'did' for Lever) and we don't get absolutely smashed.

Maybe if we played our young players they might actually have the talent we drafted them for. Why wait 2-3 years to see what they have? Hopefully the sight of Ben Hart around the club might remind some that you don't need 80 SANFL games under your belt before you can get a kick in the AFL. Anyone remember 97? Goodwin, Edwards?

**** Gibbs, play the talent now while they still believe they have some.

Not trying to stir the pot here but Gibbs, Crouch, Crouch and Sloane would be close to the best midfield in the competition. Flag opportunities can be few and far between and Gibbs would be an enormous upgrade on someone like Douglas as good as he was this year. 10 and 16 are unknown quantities and you would get an A grader who has the potential to play another 5 years. Almost seems comical that you're not willing to bite the bullet.

Unless Gibbs has some unknown ability to make his team mates show up on Grand Final Day this post doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Which is why you guys should accept 16 and David Mackay.

With David Mackay you have player who will be at your club when you push for the finals in 5 years time.

We all know what you get with Mackay but not with an unknown draft pick.

Almost seems comical that you're not willing to bite the bullet.

We had our chance this year to win the flag, with picks 10,12 and 16 in 2017 plus two 1sts next year we can rebuild a powerful list.

Its a shame really that we didnt go after Rocky, would have been a massive trade win having Rocky and all those 1st rounders.

We would have been improving our midfield, thereby keeping our premiership window wide open and building a strong future simultaneously. Lever and Cameron are replaceable.

I genuinely believe we missed a trick in the trade period in 2017.
Agree. We're still capable of top 4 even without Smith, lever and Cameron. We were so far ahead 14-15 teams I can't see us falling in the 5th-10th bracket.

I say we give it a crack next year and see if any young players rise up and turn into first 22, doedee Keith gallucci Hampton cey (again). We have a few waiting to step up.

Include the 3 possible 1sts this year and 2 next, we could have a good amount.t of talent coming in for 2019-2020 while alot of our current leaders will be in their prime at 25-28 (crouches, Laird, Smith, Talia, hartigan, McGovern, Kelly, brown) add 5 first rounders on top of these blokes and we should look good for next 5 years.

Everyone talks about this window but the majority of our 22 are young and their window is at least 5 years. The only outs in this "window" period we have to worry about is Betts, Walker and Jacobs. Everyone else is under 27 and still has a few years.

We ditch 2 of those 1sts for a couple of seasons with Gibbs and we are doing to our future what the portatoes down the road are currently doing.

If the Gibbs deal does happen, I think we're going to have to accept that Reid and co will be offering two first rounds (and probably Carlton's future second coming back).
Hope I'm wrong, but Reid has already mentioned that pick 12 doesn't provide him a player that instantly improves the list, so that tells me we're not valuing first round picks this year as much as we usually would.

Didn't they only just get engaged?

Also, can't see her saying anything else to the media wether they are going or not. Bryce said the same thing on Brownlow night. Justin Reid said we'd moved on from Gibbs. There may be absolutely no chance of Gibbs coming to us, but this bit of information proves nothing either way.

Gibbs would not have won us the flag this year. Make no mistake about that.
No he wouldn't have. Because we didn't turn up.

But next year? If we turn up and it's close?

Gibbs has more chance of helping us over the line than any 18 year old in the country

Agree.

Just remember how pathetic Port have been for years and years since their 2007 debacle. With one "good year" in it.

That kind of performance kills a Club.

Thats fine. Because you guys are blindsided by the fact that in 5 years time when you play finals you will lack the depth in your starting 18 and your list to compete.

To give you an idea of how poor your list is, our list is in better shape and with a better future and we are still in a premiership window.

Hypothetically, if Carlton lose Gibbs and perform in the "Carlton way" we could still land a top 20 pick coming back our way next year.

That would mean three top 20 picks in 2018.
