Sorry, this was a pocket post.

Still makes more sense than geoff...

Are you guys still getting baited by this turnip? Who cares even in the slightest how a moronic Carlton fan rates Sloane, just let him blow his load over Cripps on his own board.

My take is that he lives in Adelaide, is sick of being surrounded by Crows fans, and has lost his cool. He is becoming repetitive, so we should ban him.

Even if Sloane was given the role of tagging Cripps this year(could eventuate) he wouldn't be able to stop him. No one can.

I used to compare Sloane with Gibbs. These players are on the same level. Neither comes close to cripps. He's a different animal, along side Dusty, Danger, fyfe, Bont.
So the CFC can become the 'Cripps Football Club' and you guys can lose by 80-100 pts at Adelaide oval to the Adelaide crows full of mere mortals not a patch on Cripps but just spokes in a bigger wheel trying to get somewhere as a team

Who actual gives a flying one , I'm happy to admit that Cripps is the best player of all time ( and will still make faaaark all difference ) . It's a team game , but nice that you can get something out of your supporting season because watching the GOAT do battle as a one man team

People consistently rate draft picks by what they might be rather than what the actual percentages turn out to be. For every Josh Kelly there are half a dozen Jimmy Toumpases. Of course Carlton's second round could be handy, but the odds would suggest he will be average or worse. Particularly when your time is right now, I would take a proven player over one or two speculative draft picks any day of the week. Slightly different when you're rebuilding but that's not us at the moment. Reid did well with the Gibbs trade and I applaud him for it. But I wouldn't have complained if he did worse.

So you think draft picks can only be used to draft a player at that pick in the current draft?

Sloane can't do what Cripps does. They're not on the same level.

For what it is worth, I agree with you that Cripps is a very good and potentially will be a great player. Point is though, with our teams make up, getting Cripps in to our side is a little sideways in regards to improving our side. If I am trading in someone it would be for an obvious weakness if I was going to have to trade or pay big and I'd imagine we'd be paying pretty big to get Cripps.

That is why I wasn't too stressed when we paid up for Gibbs this year and probably 6 weeks into the season, started to think we should have bitten the bullet in 2016. Gibbs has a skill set we were lacking in, inside out mid good footskills, given our midfield he was what we needed

So you think draft picks can only be used to draft a player at that pick in the current draft?
No. And that's a good point, I concede. They are a currency and can be used to snag players with more dependable worth than the draft youngsters. It's always good to have some liquidity but, when you're in the window, the balance leans towards your assets, ie the players you can have right now. Sometimes it's right to plant the foot and burn a bit of currency.

Beleive me, if Gibbs makes the back page of the Advertiser for his game on the weekend, Cripps would make the front page. I see the hysteria in Adelaide over good players, Cripps would be bigger than Modra.
There would be hysteria for sure, but... bigger than Modra? I was a teenager in the 90's. Nothing will ever top that crazy s**t.

Tony Modra still a bigger name than all of our current squad (apart from maybe Eddie) tbh
I wish there was a player that reached Modra status one day. I was just a pup then but that guy was literally a god walking among men for a 3-4 year stretch. I think players are just too excess-able to ever reach that level of fanaticism anymore. When you only saw them when they crossed the white line on the weekend they had an element of mystique which is completely gone now.

When ever crows players came to schools people would legit give them presents (some hand-made) to give to Modra.

Saw Mods at the casino before the game a few times and he is still popular as ever... grown adult men in their 40's fangirling and wanting selfies with him.

Eddie's the closest thing since. He's at almost all of the 36ers games and the people that are there for the basketball pay him more attention than the basketballers!

Its almost like he hasn’t come off very significant injuries.

Cripps, pre-injury, looked like a star in the making.

Let’s see how he goes after a year out the game before tugging the todger quite so hard
He broke his leg in his first year in the VFL

He's a guy who will never reach what he's meant to due to injury.
Hopefully not haha

Anyway I think Gibbs will be great for your team and will add that goal scoring mid that you need, also his class will shine in your midfield.

Would you say he is the best kick in the middle?

With Smith out yes indeed, which isn't to say the others are awful but that's always been Gibbs' strong point

Very interested to see what kind of scoring power our Midfield has this year. Sloane always seems good for 15-20 goals, Gibbs has gone as high as 21 in a season, Atkins seems able to get in the mid teens level, and the Crouch’s are building towards double figures.

With the addition of a class ball user like Gibbs that both adds a goal kicker and releases Sloane to be more damaging, as well as the development of the younger guys it Wouldn’t surprise me to see us be one of the more potent midfields for scoring.
